🙅🏼‍♀️🙅🏼‍♀️🙅🏼‍♀️I ate very similar to this for a few years. Semi high carb moderate to semi high protein, low ish fat. 3 meals a day + a snack. Clean ingredients, heavy weight training, moderate cardio. Oatmeal, sweet potatoes just like this woman! Very similar diet. I developed a fasting insulin of 7. I would get lightheaded in between meals. I began to lose my periods. My testosterone plummeted to 12. It was awful. I now eat a high fat moderate moderate protein semi low carb diet. I am not in ketosis at all but i do keep carbs semi low. Within a couple months my fasting insulin was a 3. Period came back PERFECT. No more crashes and lightheaded episodes. Everyone is different. Glad it works for her. It did not for me.

I don't know, I find the whole "fuel to workout" is kind of nonsense. We have enough energy in our bodies to run many marathons even fasted. I don't think putting some calories in you directly before lifting some weights will improve things. In fact, in my experience I have much better lifts and can go longer on a fast (say first thing in the morning with no breakfast) than I do if I work out after eating which makes me sluggish and gross.

It's funny how people don't listen and don't pay attention and think that everything is supposed to apply to everyone 🤦 the idea is that having carbohydrates, as well as some protein, is going to HELP you optimize your training. It isn't to give you the ability to do anything, it's just for optimization of performance. I do fasted training 6 days a week (one strength day 2 power days and three rotational days (I do cardio on those rotational days where the one day I go running I will eat honey before I go just to prevent any tickles in my throat) but when it comes to strength days for the legs, I definitely eat before I train just so I can last the duration (3-4). For your information, you shouldn't be so close-minded because you might learn something valuable. Also, we are not like animals, yes there are similarities but we are a completely different creation which does give us the ability to learn from animals, but there's no reason for us to copy them. That is silly

@@Somebodysomewheresometime try going for a walk after you eat. If you don't have healthy muscles, and you feel tired after you eat, that's because you're glycogen stores in your liver are full and your body isn't storing the rest in the muscles, which might even lead to some fat around your organs if you don't have fat around your waist

It’s so sad when another athlete insists that carbs are necessary for strength training/athletic performance. She got that advice from her coach, but I doubt her coach understands human physiology at the cellular level. She really needs to watch an anthony Chaffee or Bart Kay video on these topics. You will never outrun Glycation with exercise. The main error in this type of thinking that carbs are necessary for performance is insisting that you need exogenous carbohydrate to fuel energy production. This is false. Your body does not require exogenous carbohydrate, your body requires glucose, which every human has the ability to produce as much glucose for every intensity of athletic performance. People that insist on the necessity of exogenous carbohydrate simply don’t understand the actual science of molecular biology. The research has been done and documented but the bro science is never ending. I mean seriously, she says she changed her macros from 225 g of protein down to 160g. What do you think happens to excess protein in your metabolism? Well, it converted to medium chain fatty, acids and gets stored as fat. So she says that she cut the protein, cut her fat and increased carbohydrate. Well, fat, has twice the potential energy as carbohydrate so it would make sense that she became leaner once she eliminated the excess protein. But, she attributes the change in body composition to increasing carbohydrate. She simply doesn’t understand energy, balance, and what happens in the molecular level of metabolism. She should consider finding a new coach or keep the coach for training methodology and disregard their nutrition advice.

After watching your RU-vid videos, reading Dr. Gabrielle Lyon's newest book, I learned about intramuscular fat (Kobe beef muscles). People who exercise do not have intramuscular fat, therefore they need to keep replenishing glycogen in muscles by consuming enough carb. Ms. Gasztonyi in this interview is also suggesting this fact through her experience. Carb (polysaccharides) is very important for our body including our brain. But table sugar and added sugar (disaccharides) are the ones we should consume less.

Thank you for the touching upon menstrual cycle regularity. Women need at least 17% body fat to menstruate. It was interesting to hear that Erika's cycles were seemingly more regular with a low fat, high carb diet given she clearly has low body fat. That may be more individual to her (and there is data that the hypothalamic feedback loop is set for women after puberty), as most women would likely benefit with higher fat and lower carb; gluconeogenesis is more active in females given the (typical) lower glycogen storage space.

My question to Erika is does her fitness tracker show her burning 2800 cals a day or is that just what she eats and continues to lose weight? I ask because there is so much different information on EPOC and what more muscles mass actually burns. But we also know that metabolism involves so many pathways and processes beyond what little we know. But I'd love to know if her nutrition is in a vast surplus ans she is still losing weight, very curious.

Thank you Erika and Mike. So helpful for me to hear from another woman that adding more carbohydrates has resulted in noticing less PMS. I suspect that the carbohydrates support progesterone uptake. It fits with Dr Mindy Pelz's research on progesterone as an anti-PMS hormone that thrives from slightly elevated glucose levels when a woman is between day 18/day 23 all the way to day 28 of the cycle. At 36:00 I greatly appreciated to hear from another lifter once again the importance of resting "10 minutes between sets" even, and how resting is an extremely beneficial part of helping one achieve more with each lift. --- This reminded me of Peter Attia's interveiw with Holly Baxter when Holly shared of how she began to wait until her heart rate slowed down to below 100 bpm between any leg set. Also I found it encouraging to hear that there is no one-size-fits-all for training, and that every client Erika works with will follow a different, personalized path. Thank you Mike for having women on your shows, this has greatly helped me recover from catamenial epilepsy. Currently I am 23 months daily-grand-mal seizure free with NO meds! A big part of that is eating breakfast before training--- life changing for me! In the future, if possible, I would appreciate hearing about how to train for better sleep, and how sleep fits in with becoming shredded. Some of my questions for Erika would be: how does sleep affect her training and vice versa? does she find it important to work out during the morning/ the "cortisol awakening response" hours? Was there anything she noticed between times of over training and its effect on sleep? Are there any recommendations for girls who lift, who still struggle to sleep? Thanks so much for the work.

If you struggle with sleep, eat one meal a day of bananas, like a whole hand of them. Minimum 800 cals worth. I’m serious. And you are right, I am fruit based eater with some meat at dinner and my pms is mostly painless and not too heavy besides day 2 which is the worst day as far as flow. More carbs equal better sleep. Also, my metabolism isn’t all effed up and my insulin response is excellent because my bloodstream isn’t clogged up with fat, that that makes a difference in my ability to use tropical fruit meals as a main calorie source during the day. Unfortunately I wasn't really asking for general advice from anyone in this comment section about sleep. I only brought it up because the interview between Erika and Mike didn't really touch on sleep. Personally I am on a very specialized keto-biotic cyclical diet for epilepsy. Incidentally my epilepsy began when I was a "fruit-based" eater. A person can't get enough b12 or iron, glycine, creatine or carnitine on a diet of mostly fruit, These are extremely important for the brain. My questions about sleep have to do with the fact that I have two rare neurological disorders that are both affected by hormones. I am more than skeptical of the neurological effect of diets that are based around fruit especially mono-meal diets. There is no evidence that more "carbs equals better sleep" for people with mitochondrial dysfunction and I don't think its right to tout this advice to others unless you can share concrete evidence with a randomized selection of women with epilepsy who have found the same. Also, no where in our past did we have access to white rice or seedless bananas in the quantity that people are eating of carbs today.
@tropicaoptica
@tropicaoptica 7 месяцев назад
@@lostieaddict what in gods name could be wrong with eating a meal of banana or mango for a human being. Sure, when I started out a raw food diet back when I was a raw vegan, I ate lots of nuts, seeds, fat AND fruit, my issues got worse, especially candida and CF. When I found the book the 80/10/10 Diet by Doug Graham I found incredible health transformation, cleared my acne, my IBS, improved my periods, sleep, chronic fatigue and improved other symptoms from Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. I also felt mental clarity, and an overall feeling of contentment/euphoria even, especially considering I then had the energy to really exercise and lift weights and sleep great with no need for caffeine. I met with others in tropical locations to live cheap and eat cheap fruit who had healed health issues or lost weight and we were all thriving. But the key was we ate high calorie but only a little bit of overt fat at night with dinner and some of us completely eliminated the overt fat all together for a while to heal whatever issue before adding back in overt whole food fats. Over the years I have been able to add back more fat and even some animal products (at dinner). I just prefer the way fruit makes me feel during the day and is so easy on my digestive system. I’ve tried eating a meal of meat during the day and it doesn’t give me the effects I desire, not the energy and don’t really feel satisfied and often get acid reflux if I try and have more than one meal a day of meat. I also do occasionally have white rice or potato or even whatever I want if it’s out to eat though I really try and stay away from PUFAs so eating out anything I want is less common but fruit for breakfast and lunch has worked great for me. B12 comes from soil that animals eat, but even after being years of an omnivore my b12 levels were low when I started raw vegan, and yes I got injections and I have no issue with that because the benefits I feel from eating fruit outweigh having to have a supplement of b12 occasionally. Iron was low but it was low since before I went vegan. I had all the signs as a kid of being anemic despite eating a SAD diet. But still, optimal iron levels are debatable. I have heard 25 is a great number (Georgi Dinkov sites studies I should find them) and my doc insisted I get infusions when I had that number a few years ago and the infusions gave me bad side effects and I felt no improvements in my health. Mostly it was some hair thinning I was worried about in why I agreed to the infusions but I have bad hair genetics since my mom has alopecia and has no hair and my grandma struggled with it too. I was only suggesting what works for me, because for some people eating how I do now or did back then really helps them when they are desperate to feel better. Definitely not going to work though if one doesn’t eat enough calories or eats too much fat, not ripe enough fruit etc. Eating like that is potentially really good for people who are really weak and suffering and nothing else has worked. The fruit is so easy on the digestive system, hydrating and I was still able to get stronger despite eating only 40g protein a day. Our closet animal ancestors are fruit eaters I just don’t understand why me suggesting one mono fruit meal a day (like at breakfast after one has fasted all night) would be harmful? I guess if you are fat focused and in ketosis a meal like that could make your blood sugar go up and make you crash totally. Yeah I guess sometimes I forget that a lot of people who watch this channel are in ketosis and insulin response is so poor that one of humans most logical and instinctual foods eaten as a meal would make them feel like crap. Oh and we don’t know what fruit was like back when humans still lived in the tropics (that’s our natural habitat since it’s warm enough all year to be naked and not need technology to survive), because everything completely decomposes in the moist hot environment. But look at chimps and bonobos, look how damn strong they are. They are mainly fruit eaters. Why should the least instinctual food, live animals and their secretions, be something that should be a main calorie source for humans? Just because we have adapted to eating it, doesn’t mean it’s optimal. I see meat as supplemental. Same with grains, those aren’t natural either, and I try to not eat a ton of them. But at the end of the day you have to do what’s working for you. Fruit for breakfast and lunch has worked for me for 13 years. I will keep getting blood work, and keep doing any kind of testing I can to prove I’m healthy. And I will continue to share my experience because some people keto/carnivore is failing them miserably and it’s good to know there is other options that have done wonders for other people.

I have very similar macros to hers, and that's what works better for me, moderate to high carb, moderate to low fat, and 0.8-1gr of protein per pound, However, I have done with and without carb before working out, and I definitely do better with fasted workout, my body is fully adapted to use fat as a fuel, since I have been doing Intermittent fasting for 18 years, and speaking of the glutes that helps for back problem, is definitely true, since I have massive legs and ass compared to my other body parts, no backpain at all. Thanks for the video.

I disagree squat will give you lower back pain through time. Leg extensions leg press multihip machine is much better and no back pain and your legs will grow faster than squatting. Biomechanics by Doug Brignole is the future of muscle target

As a woman who has been in amazing shape and complimented by people of all ages for being in good shape, a.k.a. weight training, etc. - I do not think it’s helpful to show this woman if you’re trying to encourage people to do weight training. She is an extreme example of weight training, and I would dare say she borders on not even looking natural.
