I started scaping and fishkeeping for the first time about a month ago, and I’m up to 5 healthy tanks 😅. I credit MD with how healthy they all are and how happy my fish, shrimp, and snails are. I even decided to run co2 on two of them, but his videos are super helpful for the low tech setups too! I think this was the first channel I stumbled across when researching. Now I’ll never go back to the silk plants of my childhood. And it’s so clearly explained! Thanks, MD 😊.

Pearl-weed and Pearls of wisdom...very nice. Having had many different aquariums over 50 years and living in different locations (with varying water parameters) has taught me that matching the plants (and fish) to your pH will always give the easiest, most rewarding experience. I love me some pearlweed. Makes a fantastic plant for everything. Fantastic carpeting plant. Let the carpet grow a few inches and shrimp, shrimp babies, and fish babies disappear. Great for egg scatterers. Makes nice walls and it'll grow while floating making a nice hide for free swimming babies. You can wrap wood and rope with it and it will grow new shoots. Shits fantastic yo!

Thanks for this. I just planted a heap of pearl weed because I loved how fast it grew for you. I needed to know how to maintain it once it takes over, so this is perfect. I have some Hydrocotyle and all the leaves have melted, but I understood that now it should grow it’s under water leaves, but it’s a hard plant to trim when it’s so young and small, but you have inspired me to have a go at removing the melted leaves today.

That was so relaxing to watch & I needed that today, thanks 😁 My Ph is 6.4 and it’s rain water, I have to trim stems every other week once they take off & everything else grows fast as well. I also keep cooler temps of 24-26 which they seem to prefer. 😁 Only thing that’s ever melted was Echino then it took off. 😂😂😂 Val is the bane of my life, forever having to pull loads out because it spreads in 5cm of sand.

I loved owning a piranha - they're so personable and smart. I got one for free off Craigslist because the family was renovating and Chairman Mao lived with me for another 5 years. You really should keep them with more of their own kind, but hanging out with him in my free time became my hobby, and he lived in the living room where a lot of people came in and out and interacted with him, so we all became sort of his "school". They also recognize individuals. We found that out when we owned two similarly-patterned pitbull dogs, one of which was a puppy at the time - one day they walked by his tank, one after the other, and the puppy was large enough to be finally seen by him at his eye level and I tell you what, he did the fish equivalent of a double-take. He was FASCINATED by the fact that there were TWO dogs and he spent the whole day following the younger dog around when she walked by. Completely charming fish.

Hi MD, you said you love plants - so do I. So many wonderful ones to choose from, to try out - always good to see how someone else grows them. While I like looking at the minimalist styles like the contest winners with plants and hardscape disappearing into the distance, I like gardens. It's why I like what you do, the combination of the hardscape and the planting, not only plants like the Dutch style. Why do stems have to be relegated to behind the hardscape? If they are chosen for the spot because of how they grow, they don't need to be trimmed all the time, imho. And also great to have more about how different types of fish like to be kept, what others go well with them or don't, if you are looking for ideas of what to show - what do you love about the ones you have? Anyway, great video! I look forward to seeing new ones as they come up, thank you for all of your work in bringing it to us 👏

This is a really great video. I've got 4 tanks but always been afraid to waste money on live plants because I'm afraid they'll just die off. I'm going this weekend and get a couple and give it a Go!!
