P.S. - In the letter to her mom, she also mentioned going to be with God in the Heavens in hopes that she’d find some peace of mind up there. I couldn’t include the full Red Table Talk clip due to copyright. Also, she found out a boyfriend of hers had cheated on her just hours before she was crowned Miss North Carolina. She had a few ups and downs in love but overall there’s not a lot known about her love life that was made public. Thought I’d mention these things since many of the comments spoke on God and Relationships. We don’t know how spiritual she was, so let’s not assume.

When one kills oneself, one is NOT going to Heaven That is a fallacy. She DIDN'T find "peace" by suicide, it was the beginning of eternal Hell. I take no joy in saying that; I can imagine severe depression. I have been depressed by circumstances. But the thing that helped me was my faith in Christ and realizing that thinking of oneself, as one does when one is depressed, is idolatry, demonstrates a lack of faith in God, and is self pity, which God speaks against . If one just stops wallowing in one's own misery, one would enjoy life on this side.

@@Truthteller01None of what you said is a depiction of depression as a serious illness. So the fallacy is that you think you understand but you really don't. Because of this illness this woman had she may have been spared.

@Truthteller01 Some people are really physically ill or in physical or mental pain every day. It's easy to say that someone shouldn't self-pity if you're not walking in their shoes. I think God is forgiving and will surely take into consideration what drove people to make that painfull choice.

Cheslie saved my life no kidding. I had quit a really toxic job and I was on the verge of homelessness. I had been contemplating ending it for several days before she died. I thought of running into a tree, pills, anything. Then I heard the news that she had died. And I thought to myself if she, as beautiful, fit, successful, and intelligent as she is still wasn’t happy then maybe the answer isn’t more money or more attention. It made me pause and figure out what it was that I really wanted. I am much more happy these days and glad I decided to hang on. I bought her book as a thank you and I’m so sad she had to go for me to see what a treasure life is. Also, GOD has NOTHING to do with depression! Please STOP. If all it took was prayer and belief suicide rates wouldn’t be so high!

May I also add, for those ladies in their 30s and upwards. Depression can also come from hormonal imbalance, early menopause. Severe hormone imbalance can cause major depression. Ladies, if you feel slightly withdrawn and low, go and do those blood tests. It also can be a sign that you have another serious illness. As for women, internal issues contribute to our mental mood. Don't try and shake it off. Get your body checked out first.❤❤❤ Sometimes, it's low vitamin d or an internal illness. Depression in women is not "one of those days".

As a person who dealt with an internal loneliness that couldn’t be explained, I kind of know how she must have felt. When you’re an attractive person, smart and what some would consider successful people don’t possibly think you have any issues. GOD finally revealed that I was dealing with the Spirit of Rejection. I came 13 months after my older sister and my mom wasn’t ready for me and I felt that in the womb. It started me out on a bad trajectory from then on. I couldn’t connect to other people, didn’t feel worthy or like I measured up to other peers so I was unable to maintain real friendships and romantic relationships. I didn’t feel secure enough to invest in them because I felt like eventually I would be left or rejected. I felt better being alone because I didn’t have to “put on “ to feel like I belonged. I had to get delivered from that spirit by GOD and see my value as he sees me. In my mid 50s I have done things in a year that I have only dreamed about and I am finally happy from the inside and free!

It sounds like this phenomenal woman had ADHD. As a child she was reserved and kept to herself in class. This is a classic sign of ADHD in girls. Her feelings of inadequacy, after having accomplished so much is another sign. Due to our inability to produce high levels of dopamine, we chase the next new thing for a shot of dopamine - many times abandoning what we started. When ADHD is left untreated, depression and anxiety develops. Impostor syndrome and low self-esteem are also traits/symptoms of ADHD. ADHD presents differently in girls, which is why so many women are diagnosed later in life. This condition is exhausting and can make one feel deep sadness. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, make an appointment to see a psychiatrist (if you can). If you’re unable to see a psychiatrist, there are free online tests for ADHD. You can start there. Rise in Power Cheslie Kryst.

Thanks for sharing this. I am a witness to depression. Like Cheslie, I have popularity, and work very hard, but loneliness is always present. I used to be in disbelief about depression until I went through it last year. Honestly, In the beginning , I didn't know I was in a depression. Thankfully, I snapped out of it. But I had the thoughts, and now I can understand how positive people could commit such harm to themselves. Now, I'm sensitive and aware and take extra caution to listen closely to my friends and family during their struggles. I'm not completely over it, I'm still dealing with it. But I can honestly say the way I got out, is the same thing that's gonna sustain me. I began reading self-help books, studying my Bible, and praying. I have since joined a church and attend Bible studies and try to keep myself around other believers and pray for others as opposed to dwelling on my issues.

Like this video was beautiful, but it can be a trigger. Don’t listen to the “be strong” … let yourself feel , cry. But allow yourself to heal as well. Stay around GOOD people, get negative people out of your life! And I’ll say it again, live your truth, don’t compare yourself to anyone.❤ Love on yourself. Journal your true feelings. Once that loneliness starts settling in, find a therapist to talk it out. We are paid to listen to you! And we go through our own struggles. It’s the nature of being human. Sometimes the medication is simply just not effective enough or strong enough. Suicidal thoughts can be a side effect but according to her mother, she had been struggling with her mental health for a long time. Some people also just don't need medication, therefore it can cause adverse effects but because of her history of depression, trying medication if she had is worth a try. She was a light with a soul too sensitive for the world she was born into. What people don't understand about Clinical Depression is that it's very much physical/chemical. You carry this heaviness in your chest and literally nothing makes it go away. You're completely unable to feel joy no matter what you do. All you feel is sadness and loneliness, and sleep and death is the only way to escape the darkness. The way Cheslie described her sadness sounds so much like clinical depression. I know people mean well by speculating on whether she didn't feel good enough, and other emotional causes, but sometimes it simply has nothing to do with that. Sometimes it's just that inexplicable heaviness in your chest. Clinical depression is illogical like that. Given her overachieving nature, I think she tried to do everything possible to fight that darkness and feel whole. When it comes to people like Cheslie and Robin Williams who seemingly have many reasons to be happy, it's usually this type of depression they're battling. I've dealt with it before and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I'm happy she's free of that pain now. If she decides to return to this realm, then I hope her soul will be better attuned to the denseness of our world. If anything I wrote sounds familiar, I implore you to speak to a doctor and discuss possible treatment plans for depression. Medication can be and has been life-changing. Much love. ❤️

Same here I clicked so fast on this one! Your description of how she felt, and the Aaliyah music was sooo fitting to me😢. Even as someone older, she is such an inspiration in so many ways, beauty , fitness, intelligence, hard work, presentation, attitude and, community service! Sadly she is a reminder that at the end of the day, how we see ourselves is the difference between life and leaving this earthly existence, and that this is how bullies and abusers want us to feel, that what we achieve, how beautiful we are, doesn’t really matter because they wish it didn’t, but it does matter, AND WE DO MATTER, AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE ! God bless this gorgeous being, may she rest in heavenly peace, she earned it.

Honestly it’s social media. A lot of people feel like they are not accomplishing enough by what they see on social platforms. I say deactivate everything and go live your life away from the public. No one cares what you’re doing honestly. Stop sharing stop opening the window for people to peer into your life. If you’re constantly looking at so many people’s moment in time/highlight reels and comparing you miss all those little moments in your life that you think are insignificant. They matter too! 🤗

This ! So many times we allow social media and ourselves to pick and compare. Life is a journey not a sprint. We will never find true happiness in degrees or vain things. Life is ultimately about finding happiness in God. You can be happy or content with or without all of the vanities of the world. She never felt good enough and seemed to accomplish things her mom and step father accomplished. She never found what would make herself thrive or be happy. It appears she only allowed herself to receive negative feedback never positive. Self love is so important but so hard for people to obtain.

Seven minutes in and it’s obvious what self worth she was clinging to came from constantly needing to achieve a big goal. Not settle in and maintain them but move on to the next until there wasn’t another person with something big enough for her to emulate. She was bound by needing the approval of others to feel validated. I knew of someone with 12 degrees. That’s mental. She had been tormented since childhood. Who almost flunks kindergarten due to no desire to interact? That’s a big red flag about a poor child’s inner mental state. And the unrepentant bully’s aka mental abusers, shall have their reward one day. Parents need to teach their kids about the consequences of bullying others in their lives and how it affects those they target.

I think about this lovely young woman a lot, especially during my darkest depression events. She was intelligent, gorgeous, thriving, educated, an accomplished career, friends and family who loved (still do I'm sure) her, money, plenty of suitors, an upward trajectory and from the outside looking in, she had everything. Everything but happiness, I guess. Such a sad ending. Depression is a real bitch.

That's the scariest part because most people who struggle with depression, like myself, are nowhere near having all of the accomplishments that she had. Yet, we have to find a way to continue on. So it makes me think that she had all of this going for herself but it still wasn't enough to alleviate the sadness and keep her here, so I must be doomed. Everyday, literally, is a struggle for me, especially when I wake up. I never have a feeling of looking forward to what the day will bring. It's always a dreadful feeling of "Damn, I'm still alive.", followed by several hours of trying to pump myself up into believing that things will get better. Then rinse and repeat the next day and the next. It's extremely exhausting.

Of course, when someone dies all scenarios should be considered. However, something that breaks my heart is how people would rather concoct conspiracies than acknowledge the impact of mental illness. It’s dismissive and dangerous. When we experience physical illness we are expected to get help. People would think us crazy if we refused to treat our broken bones, our burns, cancer. The juxtaposition. When we experience mental illness we are expected to “just get over it”. We are expected to repress our feelings, as if burying them makes them go away, and if we don’t we’re called sensitive and weak. Would we call someone struggling to stand on a broken leg weak? No, we’d understand that a person who is injured and in pain needs support, someone to lean on, while they heal. Why treat physical illness and mental illness differently? The lack of empathy, the stigma, the shame and miseducation around mental illness; that’s what kills people. Every time someone beautiful, successful, popular, caring takes their own life some people just refuse to accept it. Why is it so hard to believe that just because someone seems happy they may not actually be? There’s no better actor than someone living with mental illness. We have to stop asking “Why would someone so beautiful, so ambitious…someone who had everything end their life?” Money, material things, fame, external validation; these things don’t fill the holes in our hearts. Fear of failure, fear of financial insecurity, fear of rejection, fear of appearing weak, fear of loneliness, fear that we’ll disappoint our loved ones, fear of mediocrity, fear that we’ll never be enough. I see myself in this story. I relate to the ambition. I relate to being insatiable, being a perfectionist and an overachiever. I know why I’m that way; I’m terrified that if I don’t do something extraordinary with my life, I will mean nothing. I’m enough just existing, being myself, working my normal job, living in my normal house with my normal cats. I wish that more Black and Brown little girls knew this. We are taught very early, whether it’s society, our families, direct or indirect, that we cannot fail and we cannot be weak. We don’t want to show weakness so we don’t ask for help when we need it. Someone needed to tell her that she was always enough. Someone needed to tell her that her worth, importance and beauty had nothing to do with how much she accomplished.

The issue with depression and women in particular is that our symptoms are often quieter and doesn't affect the public sphere.

Having high functioning depression is sooo difficult 😞 A relationship going wrong can cause you to spiral, a job you don’t get etc. I remember having a whole mental breakdown after my divorce. I never cried so much and felt so much pain. I coped this way at home, but in public I was the life of the party, drinking, shopping etc. Happy people don’t want others to be sad so we try very hard. The world can be harsh, and the internet often amplifies this cruelty. Weak-minded bullies hide behind screens, using anonymity to shame others in high-definition, with a boldness they'd never have face-to-face. It's a sad reflection of how ignorance and insecurity are projected onto others, instead of engaging in understanding and empathy. This behavior not only spreads negativity but also reveals the true character of those who resort to such cowardly acts.
