I bought a motorcycle last summer. I took it out on a Sunday afternoon. Sunny, 80 degrees. I almost got hit 3 times. The next day, I drove it back to the dealership, and the owner came out of his office to see what was wrong. After I told him what I endured the day before, he gladly refunded me the full amount, and wished me good luck. I will NEVER get on one , ever !! Please be safe, and watch for them ! Peace.

Orlando, I'm truly sorry for you losing your husband that way. I want to get a motorcycle and my wife won't let me. I respect her fear as these potential accidents are usually one-sided. The motorcyclist, even in less violent crashes still can get pretty busted up. Maybe medical bills out of this world, or losing your house, etc... You don't win in a motorcycle accident even if you're not the cause of it.

Im sorry for your loss. If it was an accident and no fault of his I would think it wouldn't be hard to win. Also, unless the person is just cold hearted about it, which I have no clue, I wouldn't see myself trying to make the other party miserable and broke and possibily incarcerated. Like I stated I don't know the circumstance. I hope you get whatever will help heal that wound.

@@draintheswamp1588 Ray, read my response above. I had a motorcycle shop, was a Paramedic and saw both sides of the tracks. No one can be more of a neutral party then me. That said, DON'T buy a motorcycle. It's not IF you have an accident , its when you have an accident. Let me put it another way. Have you ever been in a car accident in your life?. Now just imagine if that were on a motorcycle. I think I made my point. Your wife loves you. You're a very lucky man already.

Yep I came across a motorcycle laying in the road one morning on the way to work , police everywhere , traffic to a crawl proceeding forward I saw a young man lying in the center of the road covered with a sheet , but his feet and shoes were sticking out . I cried all day and thought about that knock on the door his family would get . Turns out he was letting his girlfriend drive his car that day and someone turned in front of him on his motorcycle and hit him .He saw it coming and tried to lay the bike down , but died at the scene . I always look out for motorcycles . I was told he did not goof off on his bike by his co workers at the bank he worked at and he was also a college student . Not all bike riders are reckless . The woman who turned in front of him was negligent .

As a rider of 35 years I have had many close calls but because I ride under the assumption that nobody sees me its purely a defensive ride. My biggest fear now is all these knuckleheads using their smart phones while they drive, especially approaching a red light with me in front of them. Then it happened. Sitting at a red light I'm watching in my mirror. Getting closer, not slowing down enough, so I started moving forward and then I was hit.Had I not moved forward I would have been run over. It wasn't hard as I stayed on my feet but it broke up my ride pretty good. Now I rarely ride and think back how carefree I USED to ride, carefree and so enjoyable. The dude that hit me was checking his phone.

But about 5 yrs before ,l had a club brother killed in a acc just like you , he was set at one of these fucked up left turn 1/4 cloverleaf that NJ has , and a old man pulled right behind him on his big dresser , not noticing him and plowed into oncoming traffic where a big Buick hit him and knocked him and hog down , and then underneath the car just pinning him and the bike under the front of the car , sparks from set the whole wreak ablaze, needless to say , he had a closed casket funeral... I still miss you , Criss .

Same experience here after years of safe riding. There was a time you could go out on a bike and just ride and have fun, keeping a close eye out for the odd drunk driver. Now, it's a totally different story; everyone's got a smart phone and is either texting or watching a video, when they should be focused on their driving and NOT doing something else that's dangerous. After last year's riding, I'm convinced that 90% of drivers shouldn't even be behind the wheel of a motor vehicle. It's scary out there now on a bike! I lost a fellow rider last year who was run over and dragged down the road by a young girl in a car who was texting. My friend is dead and the young girl still drives..........

An older friend has years of exclusively riding motorcycles in all conditions. He has had to lay a bike down three times because of idiot drivers with luckily minor injuries. He told me, 'The key is, expect the unexpected, ride slower than other bikers so emergency maneuvers can be successful, never get the urge to do something stupid, most importantly pray before every ride.' He is not especially religious, but so far the praying might have helped.

To my fellow bike riders, I've been riding since I could walk literally, that's 50 years plus, never been down on the street, YET! only in the dirt, lol. So I'll give my fellow riding brothers what I know! I never ride the middle lane only transition threw it, right lane preferably, keep trouble on one side not both. I always have the bike in a lower gear revved up in traffic, why? so you can accelerate out of potential danger, more often then not this is the case, hitting the brakes can lead to problems at times. 2 fingers on the front brakes index and middle at all times in traffic, 3 on the throttle. Always know/expect the person taking the left turn in front of you doesn't see you, so be ready, always give yourself an out, shoulder preferably. Lane splitting is a big no no, your asking for it! Use your lane to stay away from trouble, don't ride right next to people, get away from them, saved me countless times, use your horn and upgrade it to a very loud one, know how to use it, when panicked, practice all these things, and above all pay attention, you cannot ride lazy, sure way to lose your life! Look both ways when approaching intersections, your on a bike, no protection like a vehicle so don't ever take it for granted someone won't run a red light! Don't speed, it lowers your reaction time, want to go fast? take it to the track! Lastly keep your bike maintained, brakes, replace broken levers immediately, lights etc. Experience is learned through good fundamentals and defensiveness! Take a safety course before you ride in traffic, stay on the open road, city's are far more dangerous! God bless, hope this helped someone!

Been riding since 93. I had one bad crash and a few spills over the years. I've been riding daily since 2009. You can't account for everything but as a rider you can limit some of a danger by staying hyper aware. Always leave yourself at least one out. Don't split traffic at speed. Stay out of the right lane as much as possible. Freeway on/off ramps make people in cars do idiotic last min moves. Never go the second the light turns green there is always someone running the yellow well into the red. Try. Try hard not to speed on surface streets. You will make up the time filtering traffic at the light.(I fail at that one still) Double even quadrupedal yellow carpool lines mean nothing to car drivers. If you do split the carpool and fast lane at speed don't do it a little bit before, during or after the white line entry/exit portions. Stay fully geared up no mater how hot it is. Know your limits. One thing few riders do. Practice emergency stops and turns. Cuts down on grabbing a hand full of front brake and going over the bars or not enough brake. I have no delusions about safety. I can't control every situation but I can somewhat limit putting myself into bad positions.

I rode all over the states for 8 yrs including the Yukon, to Alaska & through canada as well but gave it up 4 yrs ago. I miss riding & saw many lose their lives. You really have to be aware of what's around you & not use speed you don't need to & wear your proper gear. It's dangerous to ride. But dam was it fun.

I watched a motorcyclist pull out in front of a car by my work. My boss and I ran out to assist (we’re a veterinary clinic) and found his leg pretty mangled but he was in fairly good condition so we just kept an eye on him until paramedics got there. His fractured leg turned out to be an amputation. Also had a motorcycle pull out in front of me one day. Thankfully I was going slow enough to stop without hitting them. Scared me to death.

My advice for all males under 25, do your self a favor, and only ride on dirt. Experience how fragile your body really is. Experience consequences without all the other distractions. Hopefully by then, your brain has been fully developed, and that raw feeling of being invisible should be cut down by 50%. Hope you young guys take this in consideration.

A motorcyclist was killed in a collision with a car in Riverside on Tuesday evening, Jan. 2, authorities said. The crash was reported shortly before 6 p.m. in the 3300 block of Arlington Avenue. The motorcyclist, whose name hasn’t been released, was pronounced dead at the scene, Riverside Fire Department Battalion Chief Tony Perna said. A Riverside police statement said a 61-year-old from Moreno Valley was in a Nissan Altima, headed south on Division Street. At the intersection with Arlington, the driver stopped at the stop sign before starting a left turn. That’s when the motorcyclist, on a Yamaha traveling west on Arlington, hit the side of the Nissan. The Nissan driver was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor, said the statement from Traffic Bureau Sgt. Erich Feimer. The westbound lanes of Arlington from Durango Road were closed for the investigation, the Police Department said in a Facebook post. Police urged anyone with information about the collision to call Detective F. Soria at 951-826-8720. View image on Twitter

I lost my 20 year old brother who was a LCPL (Lance Corporal) with the United States Marine Corps 9 years ago due to a motorist's NEGLIGENCE AND FAILURE TO YIELD when making a LEFT TURN. He was driving his bike with his girlfriend on the back in Palm Harbor Florida. He basically held on tight breaking EVERY BONE IN HIS BODY KNOWING FULL WELL that he was gonna hit FULL FORCE even though both of them WERE wearing HELMUTS. Because of him SACRIFICING his own life, he was able to save his girlfriend by having her thrown a few hundred feet landing on the ground surviving with nothing more than a few bumbs and bruises and a broken leg. Bottom line is PAY ATTENTION AND YIELD PROPERLY WHILE DRIVING!!! Semper Fi Marine!! 😭😭😭😭😭

I used to ride long ago, I've always missed it a lot. Now that my kids are grown I've been more seriously planning to ride again. But, as others have said with cell phones in use by driver's who are for the most part ignoring the laws ... I do not feel safe to ride in urban areas. In fact the only place I can think of where I would feel safe is an ADV bike on a wide flat empty desert plain.

I hate reading about these accidents. This event is why every motorcyclist should take a safety course for motorcycles. Getting an endorsement is not enough. State Safety programs teach the rider how to stop in an emergency, how to manage the motorcycle in most situations, downshifting at high speed to kill forward momentum, and leaving yourself an escape route at all times. My program saved my life a few times and I'm grateful for the instruction. Bike riders without training assume people can see them and will yield; that assumption kills. So many riders get killed by someone pulling out in front of them...the car driver simply does not see the rider and it's the rider that pays the price. Sorry, Brandon...RIP.

I road Harley’s back in the 70s thur 10 - 17 - 04 , I was a true biker road hard ,fast , drunk , stoned , and never had a close call even, then I quit drinking , druging for like 11 years, but road my big hog every wear no prob. Then this old lady turned right into me , I didn’t even have time to say shit...let alone react . 45 mph one second off my bike rollin in somebody’s yard the next, crushed my left leg . Broke in 11 places , not counting my foot, to be truthful ,I wish I bought the farm , then and there. Got cheated out a nice biker funeral , but no I had to make it gettin old sucks , but being fucked up sucks twice as much. My son bought some rice rocket , thought he would grow up to be me, I told him to get rid of the pos or I would burn it to the ground ! With all the texting , old people driving , it just ain’t worth it . Riding old school is the old cowboys before cars .

When you think about it, it’s kind of weird. All the safety stuff cars are required to have, yet motorcycles are risk DEFINED. Other than wearing the best clothing & gear possible - you have NO protection. Fly off that cycle at the wrong time/speed/place & that’s it; you’re dead. A helmet won’t keep you from breaking your neck or being decapitated. A high quality leather jacket won’t stop crushing injuries to bones & internal organs. The best boots won’t keep your foot from being torn off. And again - that helmet isn’t going to stop your head from exploding like an over-ripe grape if you end up under the tires of a semi. RIP to whoever this poor guy was . . .

I've seen my fair share of moto crashes, had a old dude cut across the highway from the fast lane(far left lane) all the way to an off ramp that was passing us. I was in the middle Lane, I dodged him all the way to the off ramp but he kept coming, swiped my front wheel out from under me and threw me on to his trunk. I escaped injury and messed his pretty red Saab up a bit aswell. That bike in this video doesn't appear to have significant damage compared to others I've seen, granted it's completely destroyed but not in pieces, don't look like the bike was going much over the speed limit if at all. And to the dude In the red Saab who hit me, 🖕

All of you people calling for prison time for the car driver are insane! First of all, you have no idea if the biker was speeding, the number one cause for vehicle turning left car/bike accidents. It doesn't mean the biker was driving recklessly, or erratic, it is easy to speed on those bikes and it only takes 10-15 mph in some cases, to make it difficult for the driver to gauge your speed as they turn, or even see you at all. Secondly, the requirement for vehicular manslaughter/homicide is GROSS negligence. DUI, putting makeup on, any ridiculous behavior behind the wheel that is GROSSLY negligent, NOT an accident. Just because someone is on a motorcycle and the chances of death go up if in an accident, doesn't make my mistake anymore prison-worthy. If everyone reading this can say they have never had any "close-calls" before, not even one, accidentally pulling out in front of someone, etc - then you are full of shit, or, you don't drive at all. It's an accident, plain and simple, and we do not put people in prison for accidents.

modern cars are made like soda cans with crumple zones, bikes are an engine attached to a solid frame. Impacting force of a bike is focused to a small point to do substantial damage in a side impact, but speed is unknown so who knows maybe your right

Motorcyclists. You need to ride at a minimum of 150mph, this cuts your journey time and therefore reduces the chances of you crashing. Also you should run red lights because this will mean that no one will run into the back of you. So far it has worked for me. Your milage may vary.

What kind of an idiot rides motorcycles, also owns a bike shop, (Harley's) and was also a Paramedic and Respiratory Therapist?. That was me. I managed to live through my motorcycle days and by the end of my career as a Paramedic I was thankful I didn't die the way so many people, who's accidents I was called to, had died. Once I realized that it isn't IF you have a motorcycle accident, it's WHEN you have a motorcycle accident, because at some point, you will. Will you live through it unscathed, is the biggest question. God Bless, and you can never be too careful. Oh, and the accidents I personally was involved in; Hitting a ladder that had fallen off a truck on the Jersey Turnpike. I was fine, few bruises. Having a deer run into me in a back woodsy road in Avon, CT. Sliding on sand after the winter. Hitting a porcupine, he fared better then I did in that one. Broken leg. Sliding on brake fluid from a broken brake line behind a tractor trailer. Did I mention that none of my incidents involved actual collisions with vehicles?. Now, include cars and trucks into the mix- it's insane. 2 wheels is just not a good idea.

Chuck & Wilson ,l'm wrong? obviously your stepdad didn't anticipate what motorists do on the road,I drive for a living,I'm always anticipating what other drivers in front and to the side of me are doing, the problem with most motor bike riders is they think their above the law, spliting lanes at twice the speed limit, too scared to pull up behind a car because they think someone is going to rear end them, the day motor bike riders realize that most motorists are not aware of them being on the road because they are a small foot print compared to a car,is when they will ride to stay alive.I don't hate them(motor bike riders) its just common sense.
