The version of Achilles' legend I'm used to is him being dipped in the river styx, his heel being the only unbathed part due to him being pinched at the heel. Do you in general like the changes Fate makes to our legends? Most of the time I feel it humanizes the characters more.

I mean...I can hardly be unhappy with the hype-ass results. And it is a work of fiction anyway--why would I be concerned about real-life lore? It is kinda funny, though, to think about how Akasha and the Throne of Heroes sort of bend the rules of reality by taking shit from their legends to give them abilities they may or may not've had when they were alive. Prime example of that'd be Kojiro. Or Artoria's holy Getsuga freakin' Tensho. Like, do we even know that she could do that before becoming a Servant?

Achilles is only second to Cu for me in the franchise. Even though Achilles is considered an asshole by many from a modern perspective (which is kind of understandable in that sense) he is such a bold, complex, unassumingly intelligent and dichotomous character, and has some of the best observations on the human condition & the gods in Greek mythology. In this way, the Fate writers were pretty faithful in conveying him as a heart-on-the-sleeve kind of person- deeply sentimental (even naive) yet surprisingly sharp with a lethal serious side. Look at the change in demeanor between his battle with Siegfried, Fran, and Vlad vs. his fight with Atalanta. Similar to Cu in both that and his Broishness. And though it’s easy to see why some identify Hector as the more honorable and “heroic” of the two due to the white-washing of his character over time- even the original Hector from the Iliad was a way more “grey” character than he is commonly portrayed as now, which I prefer. Re-reading the Iliad recently gave me an appreciation for how much more complicated and human the characters are.

Probably something related to how he brought down Achilles, it's his mark on mythology. How about Theío vélos ilíou, or 'Divine Sun Arrow' in reference to Apollo? It's a one shot deal, but it's guaranteed to hit a target's weakest point, not killing them but exposing their weakness.

Right, random question. Chiron is a centaur, got that, how does he sleep? I understand how horses sleep but its the human half that confuses me. Like is there ideally a shelf or something he can rest his arms and heads on? Does he just let his human torso hang? Does he remain straight up with his head bowed? Please tell me someone else has thought of this? There are so many things I feel like no one really has thought through in fantasy. Like how does a centaur's spine work? Do centaurs bother kissing or do they favor horses more when it comes to love and affection? Can a centaur use a lance and not snap their own spine because they cant move back as the absorb the force like a mounted warrior? So many questions!

Nah. Actually in Greek Mythology, Atalanta had a mutual understanding with the hero Meleager. Some literature even clearly pointed that Atalanta joined the Argonauts because she was chasing after him. Meleager was also fallen to Atalanta the problem is that he has a wife and he was an honorable warrior among the Greek heroes so he set aside his feelings for her. He even killed his uncle and brother just to protect Atalanta's dignity which cause his death. Though Atalanta had married someone, it was more her obligation after all he lost the bet.

for some reason he isn't a bishonen... I mean, he literally is one in the Trojan wars, so why they didn't make him like that (and make more sweet money) is beyond me. I love his character and Chiron in Apocrypha, but while Chiron is 100% accurate character wise, Achilles is weirdly too likeable. Also, I laugh every time I hear Patroclus is his "friend", and this time there's no clay to save him.

@@otakudaikun he didn't confirm nor deny(didn't even try to and left it VERY open to being seen that way) but they were written as lovers in Greek literature by ones like Plato. While they slept with other women(bisexuality wasn't strange in ancient greece) it could be said they were the ones that they loved most and were seen as symbolic same-sex couple in the ancient world(like by Alexander the great) it just wasn't in your face about it.

Funny thing is if Chiron wasn't summon into the grail war with Achilles on the opponent's team Achilles would have been unstoppable against the Black faction since only those with blood of Gods within them or God's themselves could harm him...Unless they start aiming really low...

Solqueen86 plus I'm pretty sure in the apocrypha series no one but Chiron knew about his Achilles weakness, so without Chiron the black faction wouldn't know where to aim let alone hit him

Eh....still ship them and rule34 it XD. If Patroculus ever gets put in FGO....they really need to not just gloss over their "homosexual relationship in legend" since even legends are part of a servants' character and affect them, even if false (see Salieri, Vlad, etc) Make them a thing or at the very least a whole bunch of Ho Hey moments.
