I really wanted to make this video 6 minutes and 50 seconds long (the length of Fate Of The Stars) but I ended up having too much to say. It sure would’ve been cool though. Even though this video isn’t the length of your average ‘video essay’, I really do feel like I’ve put in enough effort and time to call it such - I hope you all enjoy my first video essay of what I hope to be many :)
I personally feel that this song is talking about sleep. When listening to the song under the impression that it is about someone falling asleep, it becomes very interesting. It sounds as though the song is comparing sleep with the idea of death itself, replacing the metaphors for death with metaphors for sleep gives it almost the exact same meaning. That could also explain the whole repeating thing, you sleep everyday of your life and you barely notice it. Personally I agree with you and your explanation behind the lyrics, but I think it is all one big metaphor for sleep. I personally find that more poetic as well, that such beauty and meaning could be found behind something as simple as sleep. Loved the video, keep up the good work!
I feel that the Sun and Mr Moon represent God and Time, Mr Moon is the one who rebukes Juno in "Ruler of Everything" for the voice sounds simillar, Juno shot at the sun so that is why the moon (aka his galactic partner) decides to trap Juno in a Cycle or kill him like we see in the Ruler of everything videoclip, either that or i'm going insane
So if the protagonist is the son of the sun and the sun is God, then wouldn’t that make the protagonist the “son of God” a title held by Jesus possibly making a connection between the two, or am I just thinking too much.
I did actually script a bit for that, but ended up removing it because I thought people would think I was thinking too much as well… but I totally agree! Plus, the ‘Mind Control, Mind Restart’ is (in a way) not too different from dying and being resurrected, like with Jesus.
@@tallyballYT Perhaps the idea of Jesus being denied paradise comes from him needing to take the punishment of the world’s sins first? Yeah… I’m thinking too much about it
@@JonahIglesias that makes sense, the world is constantly comitting sin and that wont change until mankind is dead, so this ties down again to the never ending loop by actually giving a reason why it is never ending
Holy shit. There is nothing else to say about this analysis. I am currently trying to make some analysis type videos on Tally Hall, but haven't found the time, and through that I find it even more impressive of how deep and thorough this analysis is. This song makes me wish Tally Hall made some more just as obscure songs, like Tomorrow and Today, and probably Go To Bed. I can't wait to see more from you!
Dude, thank you for someone FINALLY actually analysing this song! Fate of The Stars is such an underrated song, and you just made me love it more! Awesome. B)
Wow, you went so deep with this song, it deserves more attention for sure! Tally Hall never ceases to amaze me with their genius. Also love the style of this video, keep it up!
PLEASE give us an analysis of bring her along. it’s my favorite song on the joe hawley joe hawley album, and ive always wanted to know the meaning. but anyway, amazing video, keep up the good work! (pun intended in the keep up the good work part)
I think Too slow or too kind can have another meaning. It can be the person themselves not being sure if not dying right now is slow torture or kindness since he gets to live longer
You forgot that the 2nd time his mind is reset the song goes in reverse then as soon as it gets to the last word of the previous chorus it switches to a completely different song.
fate of the stars is genuinely one of my favorite songs ever. it’s so poetic, there’s countless meanings. I personally LOVE the chorus “so the part where we are / trapped in active depart”. In the “it’s about tally hall” interpretation, it’s fitting: they’re on hiatus, they’re not over and they’re not still active. I don’t know if they knew this was going to be the last song they released before going on hiatus when they wrote it, but still. The fact that the song also basically consumed two other songs is really cool. If you can’t tell, I just watched the ruler of everything video. I never realized how much the sun/star symbol appears in tally halls lyrics
I have this theory that Fate of the Stars might have been an early draft of Dream Sweet in Sea Major that was repurposed by Andrew to fit with Good & Evil. There’s quite a few similarities, you know the length of DSiSM is important to be 7 minutes, and FotS is just 9 seconds under. The topic of death and ending of a story is prevalent in both, as well as having an ending that leaves the listener both confused and wanting more. The more you think about the similarities the more I feel it’s got something to it.
wow, I don't know how you do this, especially at the upload schedule you have now, and in the words of Andrew Tally Hall ( Many people don't know his real name ) "Keep Up The Good Work".
I think this is a good time to bring this up: I've noticed a few of the songs in good and evil are connected to "the stars" (namely out in the twilight, the trap and of course this) Also I originally interpret "the fate of the stars" to be inevitable and unknown death because they'll always burn out and die and it'll take a long time before anyone knows though I think the idea still connects to this explanation Lastly i noticed a similarity between "you and me" (a song also referenced in the trap) at the end of it with the sun and sons back and forth relationship Afterthought: 3rd line of & is "shame on a martyr claiming friends from either perspective of &" which sounds like how Jesus is often described edit: I just remembered it was misery fell instead of out in the twilight (though I guess OitT works as well)
This was awesome! I love Fate of the Stars and I think this analysis brings a whole new perspective to the song for me. Also I think it would be pretty cool if you did videos about The Trap and Turn the Lights Off because as much as I love those songs their the ones I just a cant figure out what they’re about
Amazing video essay! Fate Of The Stars is one of the most interesting songs to me so seeing someone explain it is wonderful! Also I really liked the editing on this one
Idk how you managed to make my favorite tally hall song of all time (and my favorite song of all time tbh) even better but you did! I love story driven narratives and now I have one for not just this song but for the 3 & songs in good & evil. Since fate of the stars, a lady, and & are oblivious a connected story of sorts
This is an awesome video! It's crazy to think that the work of tally hall is STILL being anaylsed after 11 years, really shows how evergreen their songs are! Thank you for this video!
@tallyballYT Cool! I've seen people saying that there's a hidden meaning in that song but I've never been able to figure it out. I'm excited to see your take on the song
NO WAY this video is so underrated this is awesome instant sub!!!! i love seeing different people's lyrical interpretations especially since i have a really hard time finding nonliteral meaning in things - my new favorite video!!!
Something I love about this album is that every song mentions the stars at least once. Thanks for this theory, I gotta think about it more. Oh yeah, never meant to know has some pretty good connections.
AWESOME deepdive!!! It got me thinking about this song's connection with Ruler Of Everything, because in that song the main character also seemed to have beef with the sun lmao. Kinda cool to think about
Great video! I like this style a lot more than the green screen. But the style that you used in the Joe Hawley situation video still tops them both imo.
Thanks so much! This is my preferred style for a super deep song analysis, but i feel like for more goofy videos i’d definitely prefer being in front of a green screen. And tbh I wasn’t expecting anyone to prefer the one of me just sitting at my desk lol
This is your best interpretation so far!!! It's beautiffully executed, it's smart and ambitious, so much information in such a short video, and what's most important - it all makes sense now! Amazing channel, keep up the good work!
I love this theory, especially if you view it as an allegory. The relationship between humans and God can be seen as a relationship between a person and society 🤡. The person wants to have the unbiased view of the world established in Out in the Twilight. Societal pressures forcing them to conform over and over again. The music getting faster each time. Until the end of the song were they stops resisting. They find comfort in what everyone else believes which is why the end of the song is peaceful. They have become complacent.
do you think fate of the stars and hymn for a scarecrow are somehow connected? not because they’re from the same album, but i’ve been listening to both songs lately and i can see some connections… either way, i thought this video was EPIC AND MIND-BLOWING!! (see what i did there) i’ll never listen to fate of the stars the same way again!! KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK!
juno represents humanity, so maybe the dude in fate of the stars is also juno? tally hall themselves said that all of their songs are somehow connected, and i can really see a connection between those two songs
@@tallyballYT ITS LITERALLY PART OF ONE OF MY FAVORITE TALLY HALL RELATED MEMORIES EVER. So like my friends and I went to this art camp because were gay nerds and at lunch time we could recommend songs to play. We single-handedly got a full group of middle schoolers to listen to tally hall because of fate of the stars. It was fucking awesome.
If you fast forward on fate of the stars on cd, there is a notable beep sound every few seconds that could have some significance toward the mind reset theory. The same thing over and over.
this song is so underrated, it honestly makes me want to explode. everything about this song is just so URGFGEHCHSUCBSNF. makes me foam at the mouth edit: i remember seeing some video essay on joe hawley’s “go to bed” song and how it was about hypnosis, i think it would be interesting to see your insight on it!
I find it fascinating that & and FOTS were written by 2 different people. I wonder who had their idea first and who influenced who in the song writing. Andrew does have very strong imagery and his songs are some of the best to come out of Tally Hall (I particularly love Taken For a Ride). I also only learned very recently that Andrew sings the "Step on to the ferris wheel" part, because I couldn't place his voice (but now it's so obviously him, the way that once you know Rob is singing Time Machine you can't unhear his voice, which is very distinctive, just "disguised" by the vocoding)
I flipping love Fate of the Stars. I love Moonlight Sonata-ish songs that use up and down arpeggios in the opening and continue to use it as the main riff while the song evolves around it. As for other songs that feature similar arpeggios, take a listen to Radiohead's A Wolf at the Door, and The Beatles' I Want You
i always felt like fate of the stars sounded like me & the birds by duster, and the pairing between the human in FotS and Sisyphus is definitely there although the connection between sissy and m&tb is just a meme
Technically not a Tally Hall song. If we were to count Miracle Musical, then the last song would be "Go To Bed" or "White Rabbit", as they are the last songs on JHJH, because more members (all of them, also Bora) appear on that album
Hey tallyball, I've got a question, are you the guy who had a btd6 channel before, because your look and sound simmilar to that guy, also I like ur Tally Hall videos :D
