I mean, I can understand why they changed it, doesn't exactly fit with the rest of the album, but still doesn't change the fact it sounds god damn amazing
right? this is great but i really cant look at people who call this "the better version" with a straight face. if you prefer the demo version then you never liked fate of the stars for what it set out to do imo FOTS is good because it's found an impossible balance between spacey, fast-paced, and dramatic while having a chillingly calming outro. it's the only song with the spacey "sad music" vibe that i can listen to and choose not to feel the sadness because it's so good at being multiple things at once, and then be comforted by the ending anyways.
[First Movement] [Verse 1] To leave from this tale, follow closely ahead Prepare to exist by the living & dead Too slow or too kind or too wary of those too at ease Past all the buried impressions of then Sullen drawn eyes and expressions to mend Continued through mirrors left broken to sing and be heard Through when it seems all the senses are lost to absurd [Chorus] So the part where we are Trapped in active depart In the fate of the stars No, not one who we are No control pumping heart Button pressed mind in art Mind control, mind restart [Verse 2] To leave from the present with no source of sound They laugh because silence is never around Ignored and forgotten, the past may continue to breathe Feared not a rest by this desolate friend Whose patience revealed what intent comes to send With a stare at a hole in the world comes a lust to be high Above all the dark nested clouds that keep guard of the sky [Chorus] So the part where we are Trapped in active depart In the fate of the stars No, not one who we are No control pumping heart Button pressed mind in art Mind control, mind restart [Second Movement] [Bridge] Step onto the Ferris wheel Round for day and night Lost in what's forever more Complacent in its reasons for Give & take & sleep & wake & Pray for day & night to come Again, we see there's certainty in What we feel and what we've heard Again, we see there's certainty in Expectations all the same
2:50 and on sounds better than the finished version but the rest is worse cuz of that sound that keeps on playing in the background it hurts my head, also they don't go "in the fate of the staaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaars"
@@robertcajucom3203 ooooh you right. now that's interesting. makes me think about how much more bits and melodies they have that ended up on different songs
@@tally_hal i wanna make a version of this song and dream in sea major It would be a cluster of 100 different things but it would be cool transitions Maybe the finished fate of the stars as a bridge
Am I going crazy or does Andrew sing ‘fall down’ right at the very end of the song (after expectations all the same)? Also I cannot express how much I adore both versions of this song. Wish there was a live version.
the band did in fact play this song live EXACTLY one time (back when the song was called "mind control"). there's only one surviving recording of it (its fairly low quality and it doesn't cover the entire song) but here's a link to it if you still care!!!! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-v26zg6pRoHg.html
The final version of this song is my favorite song ever, but I always love hearing these demos. I noticed that the instrumental interlude at around the halfway point is totally different, and way shorter than what ended up in the final song - I’d love to hear a longer version of that though 👀

(I made a grammar mistake, so I’m reposting my comment) I’d like to give my critique of this demo: Positives: Everything from @ to the end sounds superior to the final version (especially the piano part), albeit needing some cleanup. Negatives: Having only Andrew do the vocals, which I think the final version improved on (not saying Andrew isn’t a good vocalist, but I don’t think his voice is good for the beginning part of FotS), and this version having less of the heavy vibe of the final version. Overall, good version of the song with some things that are better than what we got on Good & Evil, but I would never replace the final version with this. Someone should probably do a mix of this & the final FotS, to combine both of their sounds (I hope someone does that, cause it will be a guaranteed bop).
For some reason the I time signature was replaced by an @ symbol (probably due to an error during the copy & paste), so here the time signature I was trying to type: 2:45
Can I be honest? I don't like when Andrew sings. I love his writing, love his songs, but I'm GLAD that the version we got didn't have him singing. (At least for the main part of the song)
