Maybe. I'm pretty sure in America he should be considered innocent until proven guilty. So far he has only been accused of these crimes... not convicted.
I was thinking the same thing. But there are also different types of kidnapping charges. It's not always "This guy came up to me and pointed a gun at me and made me get in his car and drove me to his house and tied me up in the bedroom." Sometimes it's more like "I was doing meth with my boyfriend for a week straight and he had a psychotic episode and would not let me leave the apartment or use my phone." Now, however, the bail seems ridiculously high. $750,000 ??? That's in the realm of a murder charge.
Ohhhh…..no no no. YOU especially….using God as a cover for your lies and propaganda about Lahaina. Go away already. YOU have no business here…..keep lies in Alabama . Are they all toothless in Alabama??
Maui? He is a Maui police tool on the streets. How did the drugs get on Maui? Maui police, They own this thug they made, and he is their tool for use to get others into their claws. This is not rocket science people.
No sorry to you but my poor son let me go on the news and my son was a good boy from a great family , sorry not to you but sorry he will have to stay in jail for a short time but he came from a good family , that's important right🤣😂🤣
And how about his accomplices in the white minivan and the drone hunters? WTH were these sociopaths trying to do after they stole everything? Kidnap/ransom, senseless murder? This is beyond enraging. Do I need to carry ?
Wait... Wait... Wait... Sexual crimes, abuse of household member, 8 year prison term and 5 years second time? Bahrah! Why he even got one low bail? And no blame the drugs. Its him!
If you listen to this story there were more people involved as a couple was being hunted as they try to escape. This guy is a dangerous to the community he shouldn't even be granted bail
IF their crazy, unbelievable story is true. We have no way of knowing that--and quite frankly, they have no way of proving it. Sounds like bullshit to me.
@@The.Hawaiian.KingdomLol saying it'll never happen. Tourism IS way down and it's not coming back. Mainlanders have heard the message loud and clear: tourists are not wanted here and tourists are not safe here.
This guy is a grown adult and the prosecutor says if she knew the dad didn't want a shorter stay, she would have pushed for a stiffer penalty. FIRE THIS CLOWN PROSECUTOR. SHE MAKES YOUR COMMUNITY DANGEROUS.
What are you talking about. Megan Kau is NOT the prosecutor. She’s not even A prosecutor. And even if she was A prosecutor, it would be for Honolulu County, the one she ran for, not Maui County…
These are serious criminals, I was in Maui after the fires delivering some contributions and a gang of criminals placed spikes on the highway and started following me for a long stretch of the dirt road, I made a mistake by not reporting the incident
This is the same dude that ran me and my wife off the road a few years ago. He first flipped us off as we got squeezed by the narrow road and he turned right into us causing us to go off the side into a ditch. Man i was in fighting mode. Got out, he was 50ft away getting out. Im 6'4" 200lbs. He looked at me and took off. Our rental was mangled but driveable and got back to the hotel fine. I never forget a face. Still can't believe it's this guy! Btw. The cop that came to take our report said " locals dont really like tourists". I said, "then they're stupid and theyll die that way." We never heard back from him.
How utterly sad for the parents to ask that a higher bail to be given. They must've exhausted every means to help their son. I truly think that should a Judge release or go easy on a habitual criminal and a far more heinous crime happens, the famlies should hold them accountable. We rely on our Judicial system to be prudent in their decision and they failed. Hawaii's revolving door system needs to be revamped.
lol 😂 he’s kraven the hunter and his son maybe rebelled against animal cruelty 😢. What’s up with his son holding that fish 🐟 he looked like a good kid at one point.
My question is , who set the bail amounts for crimes in maui ? How does this happen? Who has that much power ? Liberals, democrats, blm and the ACLU. We need common sense in the justice system again. Thriw out the keft and vring in the right this november. Its our only hope folks .Vote in Nov. Save our country. Rj willis
Mr. Troy Helmer. I am the father of one of your sick drug addict son's victims. Instead of whining and crying on television and blaming your son's heinous crimes on the Justice Department, how about a sincere apology to your drug addled son's victims and families. I believe first and foremost that is the least you should have done. How about prayers for the victims?
Come on know, your doing same thing, blaming someone who didn't commit a crime nor is responsible for punishment. This man owes you nor anyone else a damn thing. That lowlife is a grown adult who's taking advantage of our broken judicial system just like a million other criminals. Welcome to the world of us victims who suffer cuz the laws do little to nothing
Well @2:44 they say _“he’s skeptical that his son was involved in the car jacking and he wants to make sure he gets a fair trial”_ … so I don’t know that he would apologize for something he’s skeptical of his son even doing. Odd since he understands his son has a drug problem and thinks his son needs to be in jail, but it can be hard to see your children clearly sometimes. 🤷🏽♀️
Everyone has a choice, to do the drug or to do the crime. I know people who use drugs that don’t commit crime. Comes down to the individual. We need to hold people accountable and stop making excuses for everything.
Government knows this. That’s why they destabilize whole regions of the world with drugs. Ex. Chinese opium war… Ronald Reagan flooding inner cities with crack in the 80s…
I can empathize with this man. I’m going through almost the same thing with my son. I wish there was more to the detox programs like a mental health component. My son is now hearing voices.😢 💔 It breaks your heart as a parent knowing that you did your best raising them to be good people. How do we get them back to the person that they used to be…minus the drugs?
My son was an azzhole for 10 years. He has turned around completely. Best father and son one could ever have for the last 2 years. Hang in there. If your son has schizophrenia he needs to be diagnosed and on medication. I know a few really good people that have schizophrenia. It happens as they get older. Try educate yourself about it.
In the 90’s I threw a packet of taco sauce at a car that cut me off when I was 18. It didn’t explode, just bounced off harmlessly. My bail was $50,000 in Palo Alto, CA and it kept me out of the Marines after being accepted and given a ship out date.
My heart goes out to his father and his family. But the reality is this guy and the people that were helping him look for those victims whose car he hijacked with a gun, they weren't looking for them to apologize or return their car and belongings they were looking for them so there wouldn't be any witnesses, they were going to kill them. It couldn't get more serious. This psychopath and whoever was involved in this, the Van, I think it had taxi written on it, and the other car that the witnesses described looking for them, we're going to commit murder and if anybody thinks that's not true they're delusional.
wonder how many tourists him and the other people he was with have murdered, the couple he carjacked said there were 3 cars searching for them and they even had a drone with a spotlight. he also counted down before he started shooting at them and said he was going to find out where they live and hunt them down…
bail is a scam. How is it safe to let a constantly violent person out just because they can come up with an amount of money? Shameful that the state will compromise public safety for any price.
The couple was hunted for hours and he even called for back-up and two other vehicles with two other people showed up with flashlights and a drone to hunt for the couple who hid through the night as they slowly made their way up across the mountain.
At least the father isn’t saying he’s a good kid and would hurt anyone. It’s hard for a parent to accept and admit the child is a threat, glad he called out the DA , but the DA shouldn’t need to hear it from the parents that their son is dangerous, DA has plenty of evidence of a violent history !
He’s skeptical his son was involved in the carjacking? What??? I feel for this father, but your son is a dangerous individual that should be permanently locked up.
I feel bad for Troy, left with nothing to do but pray for his son. What a disappointment this punk kid has been, with a string of violent crimes since he was a teenager. He’s notorious for picking fights with random strangers. Now he gets to go back to prison where he can pick fights all day. His favorite pastime.
i think Dad has some issues proving his manhood -- check out wall behind him -- wicked stuff -- bow hunter. maybe he should have concentrated on showing his son how to be a man.
I am very sorry for this fathers pain. His heart is broken. I am in a similar situation with a son, currently in jail, who has serious mental illness and drug/alcohol addiction. I have done everything I can to try to get my son help for 12 years now. The 'justice' system is broken. Jail time alone is not the answer for most offenders.
As it was put to me by a family friend who is an attorney in Honolulu, "Hawaii doesn't have a justice system... only a legal system." Semantics aside, my heart goes out to you as a fellow father, albeit of a MUCH younger boy. Hawaii is home, but stories like yours are a big part of the reason I left Hawaii and the US to raise my family.
@@crosscolin That's not just Hawaii, it's the United States, in general. The only goal of our justice system is punishment. No rehabilitation. Then when you get out, your criminal record follows you for the rest of your life and makes it next to impossible to find a job, which just compounds all the problems that drove people to crime in the first place. Add to that very limited and ineffective social services. I'm not surprised our recidivism rate is as high as it is.
Maui police and its court system aren't doing enough to keep its citizens and visitors safe! Auwe, shameful, that people are getting terrorized by repeat criminals because they are not getting stiff enough penalties!
Oh, bullsh*t. As if red states don’t have crime. 36 states have higher violent crime rates than Hawaii. Four of the top five states for the most violent crime are red states.
He would’ve just done it after, here’s the thing we only know that he did it this time because he got caught how many hundreds of times has he not been caught? That’s what you need to think about.
@@jeffreyk8875 The only things that are different is she’s paid her debt to society, Trump hasn’t yet and her crimes were decades ago when she was young, since then she hasn’t committed any crimes and has been a model citizen, a display of the system working as it’s intended… Trump however is old and his crimes are recent, proving he hasn’t learned from his mistakes and is still criminal minded. But none of that matters in so far as their ability to hold positions in office, because there’s no laws against convicts being in office, in fact you could currently be IN prison and still run for and be in office… which we may experience with Trump, he may be running the country from Prison.
