Hello. I'm from Mexico, and I'm using a translator, I hope he does his best job. It was a wonderful video that takes us back to our youth. It seems incredible to me that even after so many years, you remember those scenes that you liked from certain games. I think you're right that CAPCOM owed a lot to the Sega Genesis players, but even so, Genesis was the best that ever existed. I send you greetings from Mexico City.

It's rejuvenating to see a fellow middle aged man being that excited by good ol' SEGA pixel wizardry. The devs of this era were nothing short of hacker magicians, squeezing every last hertz out of the hardware in such creative ways. I'm replaying the games I used to own in the 90s on OLED Steam Deck with RetroAchievements on and it's so much fun. 16-bit games still hit different, aged like fine wine.

29:43 “If looks & sounds could kill, none of us would’ve ever finished this game.” Y’all, I know we admire Sega Lord X for his gaming knowledge and Sega expertise usually, but can we take a second to recognize what great WRITING his videos have sometimes? And how it’s only gotten better over time?? Man, it’s always so great to not only stay with a channel as it takes off, but to see the creator’s craft only ever get better, across the board.

Ice Cap is atmospheric as hell. I love all the Sonic 1 stages too, there's just something about them that has a lot of mystique. Springyard, Labyrinth (aesthetics mostly) and Star Light all in a row is legendary. And World of Illusion, the swimming stage, with the relaxed and ethereal theme and all the bright colors was awesome

The beginning of Streets of Rage with the prologue/story scrolling on screen, the twilight city skyline in the background and _that_ moody, halftime hiphop beat wasn't topped for "mood setting" until PS1 with games like Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill and Resident Evil Stands as one of *the* best moments on the system imo ❤
@ToshisGarden

The mood and atmosphere-setting within the original Streets of Rage is legendary. For me, if we're talking entries to the medium on the '90s, Super Metroid, Snatcher, and Super Castlevania IV are the only games that come close pre-PS1 out of the games that I played.

Dynamite Headdy has a lot of neat levels! The soundtrack was amazing the whole way through, too! I think Toys in the Hood was one of the first levels? Yeah, it really sets the tone of this bizarre adventure and gets you accustomed to the different head power-ups. Towering Internal was really great, too. The graphical effect of the rotating tower and Spinderella was quite impressive. Treasure always packed their games with lots of mini-bosses/bosses and pushed the graphical limitations of the systems!

Gunstar Heroes thrilling underground mines followed by the jaw-dropping, transformer themed boss fight and then the mind-bending Dice Palace stage. Finally, the boss rush on the moon base where they're all gathered together to hopelessly spectate on you crushing them one by one, until it culminates in a showdown with Golden Silver. Rocket Knight Adventures - every stage feels original and distinguished from one another, but the flying section & maze-like structure of stage 5 remain the most memorable to me. Dynamite Headdy's amusing practice area, plus Acts 1 to 3 are all superb. Wiz 'n Liz snow land level music fits the game art & stage design like a glove.

Some of my favourites are: Childam (Wonder Boy In Monster World) - everything about it is cozy and calming. The music is soothing, the colours are soft and inviting. Just a thoroughly lovely place to be. King Nole's Labyrinth (Landstalker) - Has probably my favourite music in the game, I kind of wish every dungeon used it, since it's so mysterious and forboding. I live the design of it too, feels like a lost Mayan temple or something. Stage 1 (Streets of Rage 2) - The second I heard "Go Straight" for the first time, i was in love with this game and the series as a whole. It helps that it's set up tovdisplay all of SOR2's best qualities; the combos, the more detailed sprites, the grimy atmosphere. Just an incredible start to the game. Level 2 (Splatterhouse 3) - the level i have spent the most time trying to get the good ending on (without success so far). Just superb design and layout to maximise tension and atmosphere. I'll get that good ending!

I'm going to submit a bit of a rarer one, which isn't my personal favorite of all time or anything, but is a really cool stage from an overlooked classic: the first stage from Mick & Mack Global Gladiators. Can't go wrong with Sonic 2's Emerald Hill Zone. Beautiful lush green fields of endless grass with a beautiful view of the ocean in the far distance. I particularly like the look of the clouds in the sky and always liked the fact that there was another island in the far distance of the ocean view and the further you panned to the right of the level, the more you got to see this island. The music track is also a banger! Probably the best Sonic music track ever produced. The perfect Sonic Zone and one of my favourite stages.

Great list! I still remember many of those stages! I'd be interested to see your favorite levels from NES, SNES, TurboGrafx 16/PC-Engine, Saturn and any other consoles. I'm curious if you might even do a _least_ favorite stages on the Genesis? There are so many great stages on the Genesis, but what about some of the stinkers you dread playing in some of your favorite games? Some of my personal favorites on the Genesis include: *Sonic 1's Starlight Zone* I think this is the only zone in the latter half of the game I enjoy. The music and visuals are just so mesmerizing. Of course, it does have some annoying elements like the see-saws, bomb enemies and fans. *Sonic 2's Emerald Hill* A great introductory stage that is beautiful, fast, and fun! It has some great graphical effects and really sets the tone for the game. The music is excellent as well as is all of Sonic 2's soundtrack. *Rocket Knight Adventures' Stage 3* The first part in the crystal cave with the reflected lava effect is really cool! It then goes into a tricky underwater section and ends in some fast-paced run through underground lava caves. The end boss was pretty solid, too. There are a lot of good stages in this game, though. *Ristar's Planet Sonata* The music alone is why I love this stage. In the first part, you're delivering metronomes to captured bird creatures and each time you deliver a metronome, a new part to the background music is added. The second part has you exploring a colorful level made of instruments. Again, this game has a lot of good levels to choose from. *Vectorman's Absolute Zero* There are plenty of more impressive levels in this game, but I really like this one due to its atmosphere. You're in an underwater trench trying to climb your way out to the surface. It is relatively short, but you have to play patiently or you'll be knocked back to the bottom of the level. *Earthworm Jim's What the Heck* Jim literally goes to Hell! He has to fight through demons and lawyers! The atmosphere great and I love the music (a rendition of Night on Bald Mountain). It also has a memorable boss fight against Evil the Cat where you temporarily lose your super suit in the first part, but gain it back in the second to take out Evil's nine lives! Again, both Earthworm Jim 1 & 2 have some really memorable levels!

Great video as always my dude! Some solid picks, would definitely love to see more videos on this for the MegaDrive and other consoles too like Saturn and PS1/2. Personal standout levels on MegaDrive are: Rocket Knight Adventures - Stage 3 ~ For the reflective red water gimmick integrated into the platforming & epic music. Adventures of Batman & Robin - Mad Hatter Boss Stage ~ The combo of the killer EDM track and visual wizardry of the forward scrolling floor making dips and turns...it feels like the console should NOT be able to do it! Dynamite Headdy - Stair Wars/Towering Infernal/Spinderella ~ The climb up the tower with it rotating as you progress capped off with the boss that grabs the arena to spin it swapping you from the foreground to the background. Sonic 1 - Springyard Zone ~ Perfect layout rewarding players for getting daring with the spikeballed halfpipes and trap-filled slopes and funky music.

There's quite a few. From Thunder Force IV i've always liked the Ruin stage the most, the one with the robots on hoverboards, especially when selected as the first stage on the Maniac difficulty. The Arizona stage in Road Rash II has always been a fave and in Castle Of Illusion it's the Substage of the first stage, with all the big leaves. Contra Hard Corps has the best version of the Alien stage in my opinion and from the Streets Of Rage series, both second stages of the first two games. Then there's The Revenge Of Shinobi and Alien Soldier, and on and on...

Decapattack has some nice stages, Atomic Runner, which I strongly believe is the most impressive looking game on the Genesis, maybe rivaled by Batman n Robin, which has nice stages too. Ranger X (just saw you have it), Thunder Force II and III, Rocket Knight 1 & 2, Gunstar Heroes, McDonalds game, Second Samurai, etc, etc.

Finally some love for Marble Zone. I really enjoy it as well. Great visuals and I don’t find it slow like everyone says. Music is really catchy and memorable too. Totally agree with you.

Sky Sanctuary Zone and Death Egg Zone from Sonic 3 and Knuckles were two of my favorite stages in all of gaming. Both of them are so atmospheric and the music was incredible as well. Stage 8 from Streets of Rage 3. Both of them.

This is good to make a series, 10 or 20 random good stages, music, graphics, etc. Can do 20 or more per genre.
