FDNY- Battalion 8 Engine 8 & Ladder 2 Responding 

Engine 8 is one of the best lit trucks in the FDNY. I love the half LED/half rotator side lightbars up top.

Right at the beginning - all the rigs inside, lights flashing - REALLY cool!!

@ryanlovestosnowboard Makes sense, they look like the LED jetstreams. I like the LED/rotator idea, great for both intersections and straight ahead.

They look small because they're designed to be small because of the spacing in New York, plus no preconnects, or a mid mount pump so thats why it looks short.

The fire houses should have a mechanical arm that goes down to prevent people from walking in front of trucks as they are responding to calls.

@55Duran Nope, we have stoplights infront of the stations, when they are coming out, they hit a button on a control, and it turns all the oncoming traffic lights red, and stops traffic, and goes back to green after they pass

Stayed at the doubletree across the street. just got lucky to have a room that overlooked here. one of the more buisier houses in manhattan!

They are starting to replace our truck because some of them were in service before 9/11 and were repaired so the city is replacing every rig.

what is the mini bar on top of engine 8 it has the oval of an aerodynic, but i love the rotator/led combo

There all led's but the engine is from 2003 and the battalion chief truck is from 2007.

American fire engines are soooo cool.

I don't have the exact answer for you, but their SOP's are similar to ours and if they were all 2nd in units, then 2nd Chief would be Safety and wouldn't need to be there first.

Man, in the south were out in about 10 seconds, you guys take minutes,

I liked the Federal PA-300 sirens a lot better. I HATE the electronic Q as a primary siren.
