HERE YOU WILL SEE SEVERAL VIDEOS COMPILED INTO ONE OF FDNY UNITS BEING PREVENTED FROM RESPONDING BY SELFISH CARELESS DRIVERS ON THE STREETS OF NEW YORK CITY.
While I liked the shade, the deliveryman was not in the truck. What was he supposed to do, read their minds that he needed to move his vehicle? Also, why not just back up and go around? For all they know he could be inside for ages. It's a city, why not just go a different block down
There was a news report of a family losing their house to a fire in this area not too long ago. That family wondered why the FD didn't respond faster. This is why.
They need to make like a fire response lane cutoff from the actual road so FD can have faster responses. Also a sign that says, "DO NOT BLOCK THIS LANE, FIRE RESCUE RESPONDING." you would be fined 250$ if you blocked it.
Sheriff Industries the only paperwork they should have to do is just leaving a pre written note on the windshield “Your car was damaged by the fire department because you park like a douche - The end”
@@THEMAJESTIRIUM1 I work at YYZ airport and if you block or dont stop for a fire engine or a fire truck not only do you get your Airside vehicle Operators Permit pulled but you get 6 points on your personal license and a 2k fine
I always thought that the FIRST rule of the road was to "Yield the right of way for ANY emergency vehicles". PERIOD. If I was a cop there I'd fine him AND have his vehicle towed away.
I think that there should be a designated rammer truck, to ram any idiots for being idiots. Seriously, maybe have at least one black-&-white to cite any idiots.
Ironically it was the fire truck who decided to stubbornly wait in front of an empty truck instead of just taking a detour. Roads get blocked all the time. You improvise, don't just sit there and pray the delivery driver realizes you're waiting
@@agentshivaji3919 um the siren is so people can hear u the detour is you taking another route to quickly get where u need to go .. Yes idiots should move though.. But still find another route if u can..
yes but you realize nyc streets are so packed it’s pretty much dangerous to back up to get to another road to detour on, and if you get wedged in by an illegally parked truck and a car behind you there’s no such thing as a detour.
@@xenotrixx Not true. the Germany law is a joke. if you block a Emergency vehicle you'll have to pay a fine (bitween 20 and 250 Euros). I got with my command vehicle nearly every second call blocked by a civil car. and under 10 % of the drivers get ever punished. I report every driver to the police. and the courts do nearly nothing. Sad fact: Most of these ignorant people who behave that way belong to the so called "Upper Class" (lawyers, bankers and such)
Being a delivery driver in NYC must be a job from hell. Looks like many customers don't have loading zones next to their stores, so delivery truck drivers need to double park and deliver their loads as fast as possible. They probably say a little prayer right before a delivery..Please Lord don't let an ambulance or fire truck show up while I'm inside trying to get my invoice signed.
There should be at least one box truck length space on every block with a store reserved for trucks at ALL TIMES. And the fine for parking there should be the same as parking in a bus lane
Speaking as a paramedic working in NYC for many years: blocking streets and refusing to yield is utterly rampant. Way worse than what it seems in any video like this. It is rare that the police and the traffic agents do anything about it. I see them taking action maybe once a year. Traffic agents don’t seem to concern themselves much with double parking, for reasons known only to them. If I were to regularly bump or force these people out of the way I WOULD LOOSE MY DRIVING PRIVILEGES THAT DAY. If I scrape a double parked car, or bend their sideview mirror, I have to take myself off the assignment and do police paperwork. Yes, this is a threat to the people who called for help. If I got on the PA and yelled at people, I stand to get into all sorts of trouble. It’s just not worth it. FDNY can get away with it, we can’t. You can thank the lawyers and politicians for this state of affairs. Once upon a time, we would peel double parked cars side view mirrors off their cars, rather than be delayed responding to a sick patient. Those days are over. The liability for doing that is just spectacular. We and the police are way too closely watched to do anything like that anymore. Again, thank the politicians and lawyers, who are never concerned with an overall concern for what is good and right. Only in appearing a certain way for their audience.
It's maddening for sure, but why doesn't the truck back up and go a different way? It's New York, streets are gonna be blocked sometimes. Gotta improvise
doesnt that just technically eliminate the use of fire trucks? because they are meant to help people not trouble them XD, but it would be nice seeing a nice tasty bit of karma
My Dad was a Firefighter for 35 years and he said that towards to end of his career he had noticed that drivers have less and less respect for the sirens on the trucks and refused to move to the right and stop. In his earlier career he was stuck behind a car that refused to move so my Dad's captain told him to push the vehicle through the intersection so he did and away they went. He said he never was disciplined in any way and he's fairly certain the driver realized that they were in the wrong and thus by reporting would be opening themselves up to traffic charges for not moving out of the way of an emergency vehicle with lights and sirens going etc
I have asked firefighters and police what I am to do if stopped at a red light and an emergency vehicle is behind me honking and sirens going. Both told me to stay put, because if I pull out and there is an accident it’s my fault. So, unless I can safely turn right on red, I stay put.
Absolutely shocking. In the UK when you hear a siren you automatically get out of the way when your driving. Some people are clueless. Someday it might be them that need help
@bradsmckay seriously! Whenever I hear a siren in my city (in Southern California), my head starts going every direction trying to locate that vehicle.
I'll tell you right now, If I ever have a family member call 911 for ANY reason and I find out someone prevented help from getting there by blocking them like that, I'm going to be very..very mad.
Not only that but they should be bared from ever taking any job where there required to drive and should lose one year privileges to drive per second that they delay emergency vehicles.
Theres companies that work in the city that have drivers and/or workers that have company vehicles with suspended licenses. THEY DONT CARE, there the cockroaches you find in the basements of these buildings, you see one, but they litter the streets. These trucks need a plow in the front and the law stating that fdny have legal right to do whatever they need to in order to get to the emergency. These same A holes block the block and next thing you know, it takes an hour to cross an intersection. These people need to have the hurt put to their cars to learn they shouldnt do this.. Tickets are like post it notes, they just throw them away.
I know right like he shouldn't have been blocking the road in the first place what a greedy truck driver I love how the firefighter said I hope it's not your family member that's in trouble the problem is that people are so greedy that if it's not their problem they just don't care
The fire truck clearly saw that there was a truck in the street and still drove in. It doesn't seem to be that urgent. In big cities there is simply no place for delivery vehicles. What are they supposed to do?
Here in NZ our fire service is authorized to push the vehicles out of the way in those situations. Same if cars are parked on both sides of the road impeding movement. They have, on the odd occasion, just driven the fire engine down narrow roads where illegal impedment often occurs and scraped past cars to ensure they are not impeding the way...
Yep same Sydney Australia 58 cars written off as the fire trucks cleared the road in Balmain to get to a double house fire. Now it's legal to park on that roads footpath. As the roads only the width of a car with both sides parked. Its legal life over money insurance paid.
@@THEMAJESTIRIUM1 that's the key though. they are authorized to do it. we would need laws authorizing the fire depts to be able to do it, and i don't see that ever happening because of insurance companies lobbying against those laws.
We had a large snow storm out in Colorado last winter. One country road in particular was full of stuck abandoned vehicles from the snow. The county literally brought out a loader and pushed all the cars off the road to let emergency services though. It was epic to see the carnage 😂😂 FYI, it was a storm that was well warned about and people were told to stay home. One of the few storms that I actually opted to stay in. I have no issues driving in the snow. But not this one.
These firefighters should have permission to ram every single one of these cars, and the driver should have to pay out of pocket to repair every last penny of damage. No insurance allowed
One of my students with special needs had a prolonged seizure at school. The seizure plan was followed and the ambulance was called. Unfortunately, the call was made just prior to dismissal time and the car lane was full with waiting caregivers. First responders had difficulty getting other parents to move their cars to allow the ambulance in. In addition, the student’s parent worked close by (arrived at about the same time as EMS) so she witnessed fellow parents’ resistance to moving. 🥺🥺
While that may work for say small cars. SUVs and trucks could cause damage to the fire truck. And fire trucks need to be kept in tip top condition because the last th3you want is something to go wrong with the truck. That is why every shift change the designated driver of a certain truck must perform a number of checks.
All trucks need dash cams to record everything and to get vehicles info the drivers of them vehicles need cited and automatic loss of license then maybe ppl will start to think twice Keep up the great work brothers and sisters of the fdny god bless
Let me guess, "I will be in and out, it'll just take a minute," was their reason? I hear it all the time. These are the people that should be denied emergency services when they call for them.
In most European country’s it’s illegal to prevent an emergency service from reaching its destination which includes blocking they should try it in America, probs get loads of protests
Man ole man… I have 21 actual working days left from the greatest occupation in the world. It is a VERY crazy feeling…. So very bittersweet!! 30 years putting on the uniform. I am going to miss it and the guys soo damn much!
Absolutely no way I’m going to try and justify what the delivery truck driver did but just know that it can be an absolute nightmare trying to find a place to park in big cities and if you’re on a tight schedule it can be too tempting to block a fire lane or in this case a whole street. Businesses often do not accommodate the vehicles delivering their supplies in their parking layouts. Again, fire department more important but you’d be surprised how unpleasant parking a large vehicle can be.

Awesome catch my friend! 😉 It took WAY too long for the units to make their way through the traffic!! I feel bad for the apparatus engineers! Those cars need to yield!!
I don't care what the noise ordinance is, I would stay on the horn til they come out. As for that person with the van, I would not have let that person off at all. Still ticket them. Look how long they had to wait there. They pretty much got cancelled in the end.
When necessary, and when possible, they should be allowed to use the fire truck to push the car out of the way - and then send the driver the bill for any damage to the truck.
I mean, it depends, alot of the time in NYC theres so much traffic that theres no where to go, but these fools, like the van and teh truck are just retards who should get there licenses revoked
I was on a class trip sometime in the 70’s and saw a FDNY CF Mack in lower Manhattan with a truck tire chained to front bumper.. he was bumping the taxis that would not get out of the way. Never have forgotten that scene.
@@THEMAJESTIRIUM1 I was a volunteer in a small town where I went camping and got to know the chief who wouldn't take the apparatus out of service even if he and his wife were the only ones in service so if a call came in he would have the group on the store deck if we wanted to go his wife was the paramedic first responder
They should do what is done in several countries: No parking for any reason near a fire station. Bright red lines, immediate removal of the vehicle, and a big fee to get it back.
You know it's funny because where I live there will be like a million parking spots and people still choose to park right in the middle of the road like theyll park next to a spot and theyll still choose to park in the middle of the road it's like get into a freaking parking spot there's a million of them
I think I saw somewhere that a company (maybe Westin or Setina, the guys who make pushbars for LEO vehicles), are developing a special bumper for fire and EMS apparatus, the front of it is supposed to be soft enough so that the driver of the apparatus can move/push an obstacle out of the way without damaging the truck or other vehicle/obstacle. I wonder if it will ever go through 🤔
My question is why worry about damaging the selfishly parked vehicle.......just push it and damage it, it may make them Learn to be more considerate in future.
Wow, absolutely unreal! Is it just me, or does it seem like there's a ton of idiotic drivers in NYC? I'm in the midwest (Minnesota), and while the downtown areas of Minneapolis and St. Paul aren't nearly as big as New York, our drivers understand how to pull over to the side even in busy traffic and let whatever emergency vehicles through. Heck, sometimes when I'm going by a stoplight that has its white light signaling when an emergency vehicle is coming through and there doesn't seem to be one coming, I will still stop and check to see and hear if one could be coming regardless because the operators of whichever vehicle they happen to be driving takes priority over everything with the lives they have to save!
Correct me if I am wrong, I thought firetrucks can push cars out of the way by force if needed. Sure it will scrap up the nice paint job but it's a emergency!!
In Michigan where I'm from, drivers pull over the min there hear the sirens coming. In New York they don't care. The trucks have a ram why don't there use it and the other drivers should have to pay for their own damages cause they park illegally
Makes you wish for some street justice. Especially for ones like the delivery drivers that just kinda sauntered around. Makes you wonder if their heart rate has ever been over 75 bpm.
Those violators should be criminally charged with felonies if anyone gets so much as a scratch because help couldn't get there due to some jerks selfishness. Also make it legal for FDs to push you out of the way. Our department pushed cars parked in fire lanes and the courts were behind us back in the day. Now courts sympathize with criminals over those who respond to help society.
Very Interesting. In at least two of these clips, there was somebody sitting in the vehicle, but it still didn't move? BTW, where I live in Texas, we have different laws, not to mention much better bumpers on fire trucks.
@@tionytione4327 Absolutely, although departments shy away from this practice :/ Liability and what-not.. It's annoying. Maybe if people considered that they might be pushed out of the way and be held responsible by insurance, they would pay better attention to their surroundings.
"Not gonna give him a ticket now" See, that's the problem. In EU you get finned for the smallest things and fines are high so people think twice before doing something stupid or illegal.
When a truck come out of the station to respond to a fire and they cant swing out due to some one parked in the way. Why doesnt the city make the area in front of the station a red zone so the engine can swing either right or left?
Just because these people are in New York, it does not give them the right to park their vehicle on the middle of the road. These people need to learn to have more respect for first responders. They are doing their job saving lives, and these idiots cars are sitting there in the middle of road. These types of people make me lose faith in humanity. Absolute sickos. Anyways, awesome video.
Yea because when they parked they knew they'd be blocking a fire truck it's new York there's park especially if your driving a big ads delivery truck, it's real easy to judge from the outside
People in NewYork with respect ? 😂 That will never happen. I drive a 70 Ft Tractor Trailer through these streets. Let’s just say I don’t go to NYC anymore. “I Hooked up a chain to an idiots car and pulled it down the street out of my way after waiting for a half hour for someone to come out that was double parked” 💪🏼
If someone gets hurts or dies the person operating the cars/trucks that was in the way in route should be charged with attempted or criminal homicide!!!!
That's way too much. Be aware of what you're saying here. That rule must then be thrown across the board and you can get charged with stuff you weren't even aware of.
A homicide charge would not stick. However, article 195.15 of the New York penal law covers obstructing firefighting operations. Perhaps if people were hit with that charge, the point would get across.
I feel as though emergency services should be allowed to just shove past vehicles that are obstructing the way since time is extremely significant to them
Get their license plate, report it to the police, and charge/sue the person for damages to the emergency vehicle!!! Impeding an emergency vehicle should be cause for terminating the person's driving privilege's!!!
You know firefighters are almost like cops when they hand out tickets but instead of traffic violations they write out tickets for safety violations. I remember this one time where there was an emergency response at a restaurant and one of their exit signs did not light up red and they got ticketed over $2,000 because exit signs have to be lit up red so it can be visible.
Depending on the jurisdiction and the firefighter's certification or job title, they can issue citations. Typically, it is someone in the Fire Marshal's office. The guys on this crew may be writing down the plate #, VIN #, etc to send to the Fire Marshal or NYPD ... and that entity *might* issue a summons.
That's incredible...just unbelievable...the indifference to emergency vehicles in big cities is unreal...my dad told me when I was learning to drive, pretend they're going to your house, get outta the way!
Treat obstruction of Fire & Ambulance like a DUI. $10,000 fine, impound vehicle, driver school, loss of license, mandatory jail processing. People will learn to get their heads out of their A-holes.
This is an educational video that is highly recommended by everyone who is driving. This is to help reduce the death rates caused by delayed response due to inattentive drivers who are not following the rules as discussed i the driver's handbook. Anyone should remember as they are getting their driver's license, it is NOT just as a privilege, but a responsibility that we all have and we must be committed to to remain safe drivers instead of risking the lives of others who are doing their part to help save lives.
That is NYC for you. In big cities, the fire department have it hard when streets are so congested that emergency vehicles can't get by? What also blocks emergency vehicles is railroad crossings and movable bridges such as drawbridges, swing bridges, and lift bridges, which it is really bad luck that the emergency vehicles are in the wrong place at the wrong time and get held up.
These are caused by two main issues: The city traffic planning did not allow enough room on the streets and there is no cost for failing to get out of the way. Having delivery trucks in bike lanes or double parking is not the solution. Those that block traffic like that need a heavy fine, both to the driver and to the company. Cars that block emergency vehicles need a fine, but more importantly, they need time in public service and as ride-alongs so they can see the results of delays, like people dying, buildings lost, and so on. And not a trivial 5 hours of service, but make it inconvenient like 100 hours, 10 hours a week, so that it stings and isn't something done and forgotten in a day or two. Fines only hurt poor people; the rich and well-off ignore them. But time served treats all equally.
This is why I'm glad to be a volly in a rural town where people know to get the fruck out of the way. I'd be using that push bumper way too much if I was the driver/engineer in NYC. Either move it or I will.
I feel your pain brothers I'm on a volunteer department in a small community and still have issues on our roads and highways with people not moving over or yielding to my trucks
In Dubai it is allowed for fire trucks to ram cars blocking the way unless there is something preventing the driver to move away. Oh and the blocker would pay for the firetruck damages. Also if a car was parked next to a fire hydrant, they are allowed to break the window to access the fire hydrant, the car will also get towed and impounded for a month with a 816 Dollars fine.
@@SK-tr1wo So is your assumption and negativity. Did you research this and find this to be factual? Show me your homework on this. And if you can show me it, well I have nothing more to say.
