According to the immortal Peter Gregory, all of the good cars are in Australia. I don't know if that statement is 100 percent correct but I wouldn't doubt that the best examples are there. How many people could actually afford what amounted to $4,000 back in 1933 and 1934? Only very wealthy people could and they were few and far between. More fortunes were lost right before The Depression that it was only the wealthy few who could afford to buy them and why the J2 saved the factory from financial ruin.

@I'LL BE BACK ! Wishful thinking gets us nowhere. The only problem with having wealth is that we don't live long enough to enjoy it all.

And does anybody know the final price reached? Is this a 'real' K3 (more than 100 are labelled K3, but are -converted- K, N etc.), but only 30 (33) were built by Abingdon). One should just use the term K3 only on its genuine merit; 'last built?'.. ie when not a real K3> call it a beautiful NA (converted into a K3 contraption).... Too many parts look modern & remake. Visited last years MG Live, an 'unregistered/unknown' Dutch brand new K3 was spotted (didn't use the opportunity to 'list' it at the MMM stand!) and left without a trace... At this years Flying Scotsman, a brand new built was among the participants, also recorded as a K3, but not the real thing > misleading! Without sufficient 'authentication/provenance' this estimate is debatable and the 'Evocation' misleading; drags the real classic MMM MGs down.

@I'LL BE BACK ! I don't have a problem with it, if H&H sold this nice car 'clearly as a K3 replica'. Entering any 'classic/vintage event where 'like for like' is competed, only 'reasonable period modified originals' should compete, participate (just following VSCC rules). Never I said, rather meaning the opposite, that a replica, being it a new Bugatti/K3 is worth enjoying or building! Like prostitution, it is essential, but many seem to have problems with it. I simply tried to stipulate, even (well known) auction houses have difficulty in properly authenticate originals (slipping through fakes with 'borderline descriptions and dubious provenance'). My plea, 'more important', all originals should be protected from/clearly set aside from replicas, even the (suddenly being considered derogative ??) Austins 7, without any exception! I suggest to read the Bugatti/DVLA saga. Yes some originals are simply not affordable anymore for the most of us (even sold as scrap 50 years ago) no problem with at all. Having sufficient funds, I am restoring a '34 MG to its original condition, without any 'of the shelf' replica rubbish, allowing only period correct materials & technologies and parts, yes it is coming from all parts of the world... any problems with that? Just a choice. Why you are worked up by my reply/plea does surprise me... I think the term K3 must have sparked you as you have one yourselves which is also a 'converted K3', I assume a nice one... 'likely' a converted (K1)....; basically this should be discussed whilst enjoying a pint!! maybe at an MG meeting.... the world is (too) small for petrol heads.

Just think, if having all that mad cash could buy one an extended lease on life so he could enjoy his K3 a little bit longer.🤔
