The Fall Guy had tons of practical effects, looked awesome, was fun and entertaining (at least I had really good time watching it in theater) and nobody gave a s**t about the movie...I guess, the modern audience does not care about movies that much as we did, unless its some kind of "social experience", it seems. But at least for us older Alien fans, this hopefully gonna end up the right way - I highly doubt anything can be worse than Alien:Covenant.

As much as I agree with a lot of Reel Shift’s points, I can’t with Prometheus and Alien: Covenant. Although Prometheus has more redeeming qualities and moments and is more enjoyable outside of the Alien franchise like Ridley Scott originally intended before the studio forced him to make it connect and also force unnecessary backstory to the Xenomorphs as creations of Giant Pale humanoids and later David the Android who was a terrible character in Covenant because he became a mustache twirling villain instead of the neutral robot he was in Prometheus. If the Xenomorphs were just a resurrected extinct species from the Engineers using and experimenting with the black goo which is fossilized dna I’d be more okay with the 2 Ridley Scott prequels. And the architecture from Prometheus implying the Engineers worship Xenomorphs like gods was really intriguing. But them outright creating them instead of Xenomorphs being natural aliens of the cosmos was imo stupid.

I think cgi was better before because they had to be smart about it due to its limitations and it was great. Now it's easier and cheaper to achieve something "okay" so they don't bother as much as before. It's sad.

Aliens is still the best! I still remember the Ripley in mechsuit Science World exhibit. :)

The practical effects in Alien, Aliens and even Alien 3 are great. There are certain films where Cgi or too much Cgi won't work.

When I’m seeing a movie franchise whether it’s Marvel DC or Aliens etc… as along as the special effects are good whether it’s practical or not just let it speak for itself so I can be blown away by it and that the movie within its self it’s good as well then there’s no problem from me by it just as long that it’s good that’s all that matters at the end of the day.

Before CGi was a flex and people actually put in effort into it but now it’s seen as a cost cutting shortcut so they don’t have to go to location or film stunts

The creatives of The Thing 2011 prequel tried to use practical effects and stay true to the 1982 original but the studio wanted crappy cgi to replace the hard work because they thought they knew better and the product resulted in crap. Karma is such a b word am I right? Lol same with Ridley Scott scrapping Neil Blomkamp’s Alien for his second prequel Covenant only for it to flop at the box office. 🤣 However you feel about Covenant you can’t deny that Scott had an ego complex that backfired.

CGI is a great tool but overuse can make or break a film. Just as an example, in Man of Steel, the fight with Superman and Zod had to be CGI heavy and was great. But the warehouse fight in Batman Vs Superman which had little to no CGI is beyond classic. Alien and superhero movies will rely heavily on CGI. Most have to to create their visions on an epic scale. But if they overuse or misuse, then it takes the audience right out of the film.

Hopefully, his work is in the same vein (or on par) as Stan Winston, as opposed to the AvP CRAP!

Super hero movies these days are packed with so many powered characters in one movie that they have become too reliant on VFX. Also the saturation of VFX teams may have lowered the quality within the industry.

CGI has its uses. They simply need to be used sparingly or when practical effects aren't practical lol.

Covenant was better then Prometheus..the scenes of the alien busting out of the dudes back is terror fuel imo.

Oh......now that a.i. is coming.....they don't like cgi? CONVENIENT. I'll take what I can get. I guess.

Stan Winston & his team deserve tons of credit for their contributions to many great movies: J Park, Terminator, Alien, Predator... Also, let's not forget how many actors will not suit up & come to a set= so much suck. 🫣
