Those backhands Federer started hitting at the 2-3 game in the 2nd are so ridiculously good I've woken up my cat twice from gasping. , and that tweeter Delpo hit at the end of the 2nd is crazy, that should be on every highlight real. insane level by both

Two forehand masters
@twinwankel
@twinwankel Год назад
2017 was the comeback year and what a year that was for beautiful tennis. It was the year Fed perfected his game. The backhand was the last piece of the puzzle. Forehand, Serve, Volleys, Overheads and now Backhands, all weapons at his disposal. One could make the case that his game was better then than in his prime. Or that he had two primes, his lengthy younger years and now his later years, i.e. 2017-18. I remember this match and like many in 2017, most opponents stayed away from his backhand and attacked his forehand fearing his Indian Wells performance where Nadal kept feeding high backhands only to have them blow by Nadal's forehand. Players learned not to let Fed get into a backhand groove. And so instead of a complete destruction, you get a somewhat competitive and predictable victory for Fed. Thanks for the video.

We all know Federer's genius and greatness. But Del Potro is a legend as well... How great it was to see Delpo on court, lots of charisma, great shots, competition, grit and that wonderful hammer of a forehand. Interesting because if you look only at his height, he could have just been a servebot or something like that. But no, he had a very interesting style of play, very entertaining to watch. Though with a sad ending and lots of injuries throughout, what a wonderful story...

As a Delpo fan I always loved these matches. You could always tell when Delpo was feeling it because he could limit the effectiveness of the Federer slice to his backhand, which made Federer have to hit to the Delpo forehand which was when the magic could happen.

Dexter Scott I'm another Delpo fan. Some years ago I was at a tournament at Queen's Club in London (I always treated myself to two days on Centre Court, seated directly opposite the Club House). Almost every match during these two days had a rain break, but Delpo played straight through, no rain break and not even a grey or black cloud. It then rained for the next match on court. And naturally he won his match. Such a good player, with many injuries that ended his career.

Sometimes it seems like Federer didn't learn that much of the 2009 USO final. He just keeps on looking for the Delpo FH. He was kind of lucky Delpo ran out of gas in the 3rd set and his footwork was getting more sloppy.

Delpo and Roger always had great battles. But the thing that really annoyed the great swiss was the fact that the crowd rooted for Delpo mostly. This he found unnacceptable and if you rewatch the matches In close detail you will see how upset he could be. One clear example is Indian Wells final 2017, but there are many others.

When healthy, Del Potro was always able to keep Roger under control with his big and timely serving, and his overpowering forehand winners! Roger held the career 18-7 advantage, winning the first 6 times they played. They were 5-5 against each other the last 10 matches! These 2 played a few legendary and intense matches against each other! Their best battles were '09 FO, '09 USO, '12 Dubai, '12 FO, '12 Olympics, '12 Basel, '12 ATPF, '13 Basel, '13 Paris, '13ATPF, '17 Basel, and '18IW! All of the above(plus this match)were big league tennis! The '12 Olympic match and '18 Indian Wells were my two favorites! Delpo just always had the ability to keep Roger off-balance and frustrated. Now, their both done! Ouch!

If djokovic was goat how come he couldnt keep up with nadal and federer in 2007-2010? He was almost the same age of nadal and nadal won many grand slam already at that age, the truth is he just really couldnt dominate nadal and federer when they are still at their best and waited for them to become older and injury prone in 2011 federer was 30 age out of prime and nadal became bulky and injury prone and would end up losing against low rank seed opponent in wimbledon since 2012-2017 while he went to 2006 and 2007 wimbledon finals and won it in 2008 and 2010 in rogers era, then djokovic started sniffing enhancers taking pill enhancers drinking his magic milk shake enhacers to gain an advantage against these 2 past prime and injury prone players this is just a proof that novak will never be the goat he had never dominated nadal and federer at their best and had just a cake walk in a weak era Even federer 30 age out of prime beat best version of novak in 2011 rolland garros grand slam semi finals then the following year in wimbledon 2012 the much older federer beat the prime peak djokovic in 2012 wimbledon grand slam semi finals to win the title, this is just a proof that federer was way better and was clearly the true tennis goat, he just really got older and became injury prone and his cat like reflexes was never the same, federer went to different era and dominated and won many grand slam while beating the best top players in different era at their best! Djokovic has been in rogers prime since 2007 2008 2009 and 2010 and he only won 1 slam in federers so called weak era while roger won 4 slams in djokovic so called strong era even when roger was 36+ grandpa out of prime! djokovic only dominated the past prime old version of federer while federer dominated and won against any version of djokovic! Federer clearly the true tennis goat!

If federer had weak era how come in 2007 wimbledon safin who was top 26 seed destroyed djokovic who was top 4 seed then roddick destroyed djokovic who was the 2008 defending ao champ in 2009 ao grand slam, roddick again destroyed both nadal and djokovic in 2008 atp dubai to win the title and safin and roddick barely beats federer and youre making excuse that djokovic wasnt in his peak whein in 2007 he reach the us open finals 2008 us semi finals won the 2008 ao grand slam title 2009 us open semi finals 2010 us open finals 2010 wimbledon semi finals so he was already playing at a high level and 21-23 age was good prime age for tennis player nadal and federer already won many grand slam at this age so you cant make an excuse that he was young at that age And federer competed with best version of nadal that was lightning fast flying all over the court and can return any type of shot even rogers best shot since 2005-2010 nadal even won ao slam and 2 wimbledon slam and was a 9x grand slam champion during that span and federer has faced that best version of nadal and federer beats him, nadal wasnt even good in 2012 he started to became injury prone and he even lost against low seed players in wimbledon since 2012-2017 nowhere near his best version, you wanna say they are not in their peak because they were losing to federer and if your you remove federer from 2003-2009 for sure those clowns will win and you will consider them in their peak lol it wasnt federers fault he was way ahead of them when federer was still at his peak its not federers problem they couldnt beat him and they end up looking weak Then all of a sudden djoko was in his peak in 2011 when fed was age 30 out of prime and nadal became injury prone lol djokovic the true weak era champ, He just started winning when fed was 30+ and nadal became injury prone, he usually lose to nadal and federer until fed got older and nadal became injury prone and in fact most of djokovic slam wins in 2011 was when fed was 30+ old out of prime and nadal became injury prone and the new gen weak era that even grandpa federer was able to beat Even hewitt a 2x grand slam champion and 8x grand slam champion great legend agassi 33+ age in 2003-2005 was a good competition for federer but you will still consider him a weak era But when djoko was the one competing against 33 34 38 age federer in 2014 2015 2019 wimbledon then you will consider him having a stronger era lol Plus federer destroyed the best competition of djokovic that you've mention federer destroyed murray in 2008 us open finals then 31 age old out of prime federer again destroyed 25 age murray in the 2012 wimbledon finals, 31 age old out of prime federer also destroyed 25 age prime djokovic in 2012 wimbledon semi finals, federer can win and dominate in his prime era and he can also win and still dominate out of his prime in different era, federer won and dominated in different era beating the best top players from different era while him being in his prime or out of his prime thats why he is clearly the tennis goat!
