Yeah, I was travelling through the Australian outback a few years ago and one of the little hotels I stayed at had one of those in my room. I had seen them in the wild, and smaller species in the usa, but it is much different when you take your sheet up off the floor and have one freaking out that you took its home. I made sure to check all my sheets after that lol.

Yeah, centipedes can be fun. Still pretty manageable if you know what you're doing - been keeping centipedes since I was in primary school, and never came close to being bitten until I started handling them (which was my own decision).

When you say "giganteus" I presume you're referring to Scolopendra gigantea. We don't have those here in Australia, but apparently they're pretty chill, with a rather weak venom. The species I keep are Ethmostigmus rubripes, Scolopendra morsitans and E. muiri. Of those, E. rubripes are the only ones that make me a little nervous.

@@BugsandBiology Oh i didn't notice you where Australian so no, you don't have either Gigantea(teus) not Mortis, your police and border control would fall down on you like the wrath of God, have had a lot of exotic animals thru the years, one of the good things about living where i do is that the main limitation on import of exotics is whether you have facilities to keep them and they are not on CITES. As for Gigantea, remember they almost solely live of warmblooded animals (Bats mostly) and their toxin is necrotic + Theres a lot of it, so no, only stupid people or people with very thick safety gloves should handled them IE A human would feel like food. The Mortis cousin is slightly smaller but black, it hunts large prey of pretty much everything, Tarantulas, other scolopendras, lizards, snakes, frogs etc, their poison which have no antidote while might not kill you WILL make you wish you where (Dead that is) according to those few that have experienced it.
