The one about placebos really killed me. I had to learn about the scientific method in middle school - I could have explained that at age 12. Did they opt out of science class for religious reasons?

It's funny.. It's like everybody is sitting around a bottle of poison, seeing how much they can each drink before they lose their minds. And then some will say it's not the poison's fault, it's the people who had too much of it and made them look bad. I hate to generalize, but there is a lot of dark shit in the bible. If you have a population of people who believe it's the word of an all-powerful being, you'll get to see that hate manifest in those who take it to heart. Maybe the poison should just be done away with altogether.

trolls love the attention, like seriously you'd make there day _trying_ to reason with them. depending on type of troll if they have a religious mind set with no backing other then scriptures, bibles, ect. they don't realize it, to me anyways, they seem like advertisements. pushing for views. attention. _"god is what you need in your household!"_ all of these aren't even constructive... almost spam worthy with their threats the if'y we meet you we'll beat you. like wow.

I've seen a few comments here about placebos, but they seem to overlook the fact that the troll was referring to drug trials. The reason for using placebos in clinical trials is to demonstrate whether those participants who receive the trial drug show a better outcome than those who receive the placebo. If they do, the trial drug is shown to be effective; if there is no significant difference in the outcome between those who receive the trial drug and those who receive the placebo, then the trial drug is probably not effective. Everyone who takes part in a clinical trial knows that some of the participants will receive the trial drug and some will receive a placebo, but nobody (not even the clinicians administering the drugs) knows who receives the placebo and who receives the trial drug. In that way, nobody can be influenced either way into thinking that what they were given had (or didn't have) a beneficial effect, and it is only the people who are running the trial who know which participants received a placebo and which a trial drug. They are then able to measure whether the trial drug had a signifcantly better outcome than the placebo.

Haha, this is even better than the last one. My favorite was probably "I think the thinking atheist should go to third world countries where humans survive on faith regardless of poverty". That, my friend, is why so much food is sent to help them survive in charity, and why a child still dies once every 3 seconds from starvation. Also, I must point out that most people in poverty wouldn't have heard a quote from the Bible in their life....
I take that back. The placebo one is even better. In case you don't know, the placebo effect is not down to faith but down to the fact that thinking you've been cured alleviates stress which, to put it simply, makes you feel better.
