I only ever get this on the way home from work (a 3-mile walk) and only if my blood glucose is already on the way down when I start my walk (ie I had eaten about 90 mins previously). However, if I eat something (even if just a banana) right before leaving I’m fine all the way home! A little trick you might want to try! If you exercise straight after eating, (a brisk walk is enough!) your blood sugar won’t rise that high and consequently won’t crash because you’re using up the glucose before you would spike.
Thank you for your video. I also suffer from this condition. But I never eat simple carbs or surgery foods. I have tried all kinds of ways to eat. More protein, more fats . No carbs- low carbs (which made me feel worse), and still get it. My blood sugar never really drops below 70 and never goes higher than 120 after a meal. But at level 70 I have severe symptoms of anxiety and panic attacks, brain fog and disorientation. I need to eat right away, it usually happens 2 or 3 hours after a meal. This condition is very hard to manage and I constantly have to prepare and bring food, when I have long stretches where I am not at home. I am a musician and have to perform on stage and to avoid attacks I eat a very fatty protein rich meal right before and bring a smoothie for when low blood sugar hits me right after the performance. Stage fright also makes reactive hypoglycemia worse, so I need to also keep myself calm with breathing exercise. So far I have been able to deal with this situation by just eating about every 2-3 hours, even if I don’t feel hungry. And even though I eat a lot I don’t gain any which is great but I find it very strange.
This is so random that I see this today but my range is around the same as you with my avg. fasting glucose being around 82, highest being 130 and lowest around 60. Did they officially diagnose you in this range?
I’ve noticed that majority of people that suffer from hypoglycemia also, suffer from anxiety / panic disorder…. Do you see a correlation here?? Thanks for your video.
You are totally right! There is definitely a neuro or psychological component. Maybe because the brain is affected in one way or another. I wish a doctor could finally clarify.
Probably because the brain is starved of glucose? In that case, it would be the effect rather than the cause. However, I often feel anxious irrespective of my hypoglycaemic episodes.
I have reactive Hypoglycemia very severe I drop to 16 and 22 and 32 and just right now 48 the main symptom is I cannot breathe I am struggling to breathe I have a dexcom 6
I was T2D with bad symptoms. I went keto 2.5 years ago and week one of keeping my carbs at 20 or under...i went through hell week of n low sugar symptoms. I pushed through it and i have never had those symptoms again. I quit eating th S.A.D. diet and now i am a carnivore and feel great. I have gotton of all meds, lost 100 lbs, and went from 42 waistline to 32! Personally, my body doesnt like carbs, and i learned this by tra king all blood sugar numbers with all the food i ate. I kept a journal for over a year and now, i know what my body likes by wearing a GCM. And now when i eat veggies, sugar, or carbs i dont feel well. Go meat!! Cheers.
My blood sugar is always in range. My issue is worse in the morning and I feel better if I skip breakfast and just have lunch and dinner. I also think I'm going low while sleeping. I don't have diabetes. Endro says labs are normal. I feel awful everyday and super fatigued.
Great question-- Intermittent fasting can also work, however, if someone is fasting and have a large carb meal during the break-- that can cause this response as well. Therefore, as long as you can fast and eat a well balanced meal, I don't discourage intermittent fasting and it can help some.
Hello I am from India, and I am also having same symptoms after eating lunch in office I start feeling dizzy lightheaded weak and today I felt very bad and no doctor was able to tell the issue and I m glad i found your video which gave me answer and solutions as well. I am vegetarian and mostly i eat chapati made of wheat but now i have to reduce carbs.. what else i can eat in lunch ..
Hello. I am glad this video helped you. I would suggest adding more protein--- you can even do yogurt and add fresh fruit in it--- Other things will be hard boiled eggs, avocado, etc. Hope that helps.
I experience this after having a big meal or a refined carb meal with sweetened juice. I shake and tremble for hours. I didn't know what was wrong until i listened to this video. I am currently on 18:6 intermittent fasting. Hope it helps.
Hi Rikki, there is no "cure" per se. But you can continue to eat smaller, more frequent meals and lower carb-- which helps eliminate the symptoms. Exercise is also great as it helps reduce insulin resistance and helps keep our blood sugar levels more balanced. Hope this helps!
So basically, there is no treatment? People with RH can ever have a dessert, never enjoy a random snack, i have changed my diet and feel much better now but it is so frustrating at times that i can't even grab a pizza in a party, i always have to plan ahead, this is exhausting
I completely understand your frustration but you can as long as you pair it correctly. Normally in these cases, I tell my patients to have the protein first and then they can have the slice of pizza. Obviously not on a regular basis but on occasions. Unfortunately, there’s no magic cure. Diet is the key! Hope that helps 😀
@@thevoiceofdiabetes I definitely noticed a huge difference in the sugar spike when i changed the order of the food. But i had to eliminate certain foods for good since no matter how i ate them, they caused spike and then crush. Such as potato, white rice, sweets of course etc. I know it's for the best, i feel better and down 15 lbs, i just hope there was a way to revert this condition and not feel so sick if i dare to eat something i'm not supposed to
Yeah I get it late at night. I feel better not eating. Even after 48 hr fast j feel better than eating. I then eat a balance meal- seafood and veggies and still get this horrid sugar crash and hours long anxiety like food is killing me. Ugh. I do well with eggs/avocado/feta cheese but it gets old, ya know
I get overwhelming sleepiness within an hour or two after a meal - no shakiness. Is that reactive hypoglycemia or is that high blood sugar moment? And I do not eat sugary or white carb foods.
I appreciate the video but would you have any advice for someone who has already changed the diet (1 year and counting) and still has these episodes with every meal. They are "harsher" in the week of Ovulation and the week before my Period and I have a high Insulin Resistance (and consequent PCOS).

When your nutritional coach Tell you you need more, you need first carbs because carbs is.fuel And power And then i got reactive hypoglykémia all time around workouts!!!
Dont skip meals, eat 5-6 times per day small meals just to not feel hungry And not full, in every meal protein ! And veggie !! And after you can but not must add carbs And remember toho much fiber cause probléms.
Hi yall would appreciate any advice. so i am not drinking at all currently and i get nauseus and weak and keep falling asleep after i eat even when its healthy and no grains or complex carbs. Helllo mam. Recently i diagnosed....... reactive hypoglycemia... So...mam hw to prevent it.... And its curable.... Plz can u explain 😢 my age is 26 ... I didn't have any hab habites....
For years I've noticed this would happen to me after eating something really sweet after dinner or in between meals. I would feel so light headed I would have to lay down or I would power through it. Does this mean I'm predisposed to diabetes?
No, nothing to do with caffeine. It’s the carbs that matter. Increasing your protein intake and less carbs usually helps with this. Keep me posted. Good luck 🍀
i dont know how to describe my problem but i do have this problem after heavy meal but sometimes taking stomach acid pill that have a mix of hcl pepsin oxbile etc helps but my main problem is waking up in the middle of the night around 2-4 and cant fall back to sleep.. and its killing me :((( my continuous blood sugar monitor that i had for couple of days showed that i average around 5-7 throughout the day and night so im not sure what my problem is :((( although i do wake up most of the time sweaty around the neck and pillow but maybe because my pillow stopping is made of synthatic ball fibers. @@thevoiceofdiabetes Thanks for replying. I'm not having this symptom as much lately. The big thing I'm trying to figure out now is why I get fatter when I have been regularly walking on the treadmill. It's so frustrating and doctors are no help.
