Hi Everyone, welcome back! Today's puzzle is Fell Pony by Bits & Pieces with artwork by Steve Crisp. I just love the artwork on this puzzle. I found it at a thrift store (nothing new there!) a few months ago and fell in love with this scene. I'm going to be honest though. This puzzle kind of kicked my butt.😅
One thing I didn't realize when starting this puzzle is that the artwork is mostly made up of textures. When broken down into individual pieces, these textures were quite hard to place. I'll explain more in my full review on my website. Basically, the only well-defined edges were the little yellow flowers at the bottom of the puzzle. Everything else was just one texture blending into another. If you've ever struggled to put together a puzzle with a lot of fur, it was a bit like that but on the entire puzzle.
I started off well with the edges and quickly put together the center, as the piece shapes helped me figure out their placement. However, I soon realized this puzzle was harder than I thought. After some initial struggle, I decided to approach it like a gradient puzzle. I sorted the blue pieces of the water from light to dark, which helped me focus and make progress. My husband popped by for a little while and helped me tackle a few spots and I was really pleased for his help.
Overall, I was pleased with the quality of the puzzle. The pieces fit well together, and it was easy to move small sections around. The finish was smooth but not too glossy, so glare wasn't an issue. My one complaint was that many pieces weren't fully cut apart when I started, and I had to separate quite a few still attached to their neighbors. Since this was a used puzzle, someone had presumably already completed it and likely separated some pieces themselves. I was surprised at how many I had to break apart-probably 15-20 pairs.
In the end, we managed to finish this puzzle. It wasn't the hardest puzzle I've ever done but it was a challenge I wasn't expecting so that does make finishing it that much more satisfying. I think if this had a different image that I didn't like as much, I probably would have just packed it back up about a third of the way through. That said, I'm pleased to have this in the complete pile.

The rectangular shape adds some interesting new elements not seen in the round version I completed. You'll notice a large tree, beautiful flowers, small creatures, and many other well-defined details. This makes me think the version I'm linking to might be easier than the one I did.
