Well Lance, the Lord does work in mysterious ways. The young feller what painted your tractor gave the rest of us some good videos to watch. May have been a slight headache for you but I'm thinking by now you forgave give. lol Bloody nice job so far, looking forward to the rest of the rebuild. Keep smiling son.

Great video Lance and a very informative series. I seen you were having a few attempts and getting the springs on. A trick I learned from my dad doing the same job which was to get a piece of tie wire or baling string and tie it in a loop. Slide the loop between the spring coils about 3/4 of the way up the spring. Hook the spring on the other end you can then use the wire loop to tension the spring with your hand. The hook end of the spring is free and you can push it on with a screwdriver or pliers. Release the tension and pull the loop off. Your fingers are never near the spring hook and even if it does slip it can't fly off. Might be something to try on your next break job. I learned to drive on a similar massey and your series brings back great memories. Keep up the good work.

G Day James, I have done the wire thing in the past but until your comment I had forgotten about it. Might give it a try for old times sake.

G Day Duncan, Yeah I should have used the handle there is a place to sit on the pin but I like my screw driver lol.

The spring kept slipping off. It's good to see that even someone who knows what they are doing sometimes has trouble with with things like that. Makes me feel much better about my mechanical abilities. Carry on.

I dont normally use those old pliers and use a screw driver, I had the pliers around the wrong way.

There is a grove on the handle of his spring tool that makes sliding the springs back on much easier. This groove is often overlooked.

Bundy Bear... nah... Wizard Bear or maybe Bundy Wizard is more like it. You just helped me with the cotter pins and my next job was to put the brakes back on. Once again, your videos have helped me, showing where the brake springs go. Thank you! p.s. I do have one of the those brake spring tools, but I've only ever been successful when I just use the hook to pull the spring in place like you did on the first one. I bent the handles trying to stretch the spring when I tried use them as intended.

The other end of those pliers are for setting that heavy spring on the post. Just twist and you're done.

Great videos very informative, if the brake pads are rubbing the drum will this heat up and cause the oil seal on the drive shaft to fail and leak back end oil ??

Not that I am aware of but I never stop learning.

I wasn't able to make that brake spring plier work either so I go in my auto body tool box and get one of my green, T handled, hooked dent puller. We don't drill holes and pull dents with them anymore but they work good for brake springs and headlight retainer springs on old cars. They still sell them at car shows and they are cheap, under $20.00 for pack of 4.Just pull with both hands and hook it. What does that spring looking thing on the brake actuator shaft, up against the back side of the backing plate do? I have them on my TO20 and they are pretty rusty, to the point they probably will break once I fiddle with it. I have not seen any replacements. Lots of helpful stuff here for me, thanks!
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 6 лет назад
I think the small spring just holds the shaft across to the centre of the tractor so it runs free and not on the retaining plate near the front of the shoes. Yeah spring pliers are rarely used in my shed.

Hey, can you get the bolts which the nut goes onto to hold the manifold of a mf 35 out? And if you can what would you recommend? The threads are worn and the nut won’t sit tight anymore thanks
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 4 года назад
They come out but a bit of heat is good or weld a nut on and the heat might break the rust and get it to free up.

Hey Bundy ive seen a lot of videos on ford 8ns but no one ever show how the pto lever cover goes on the one im working on will not move. the lever is pointing forward and will not move
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 5 лет назад
G Day Richard, Remove the left hand cover where the pto lever is and have a look and see if the pto shaft is twisted which will not allow the collar to move. When I get to assembling the 1948 TEA20 I will go over that.

Lance, I noticed my TO30 brake plates had the F1 Felt dust protector in the outer grove. I see this part for the Ford 8N tractors. What are your thoughts about using this feature? I have not seen you use this or comment about it on your videos. Thank you.

I have not seen a felt on them. I suppose it wouldnt hurt though.

How did you fair with the rubber brake shoes. Did you find them better? I’ve had a look on QTP but can only find code: 1250 with hard lining.
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed Год назад
The rubber ones are great and I would use them all of the time if they were available, I see QTP no longer have them which is a shame.

Wrong end of the brake tool for installing a spring over a stud. The handle side has what is a bit of a spoon looking end. Cupped side on the stud and use it like you did your screw driver. Or just take the pliers and toss em in the bin. Screw driver and needle nose vise grip pliers is all I've ever needed.
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 6 лет назад
Shain Andrews yeah I thought about that later. I'm that used to using my screwdriver. Lol I dont like the spring tool much so it sits in the bottom drawer. I use it mainly on cars and utes.

How do you adjust the pedal height. On my mf35x the pedals are close to the floor.
@BundyBearsShed
@BundyBearsShed 2 года назад
After adjusting the shoes correctly then adjust the rod length for pedal height and make sure they are even and with the pedal joining catch joining the pedals that the tractor pulls up straight and the skid mark is the same length in gravel.
