Fern Groh (1906-2011) lived to 105 . She was interviewed by a Centenarian author . She was known to be remarkable loving, quick witted , smart-minded. Simply ahead of her time. A wonderful person we enjoyed and will miss. Love you, Fern.
“I want to live as long as I can walk, stay in my home, eat what I want, be able to sleep all night, enjoy my neighbours, enjoy my friends” - Fern. I agree Fern
If only. I am only in my 70s and due to a mild infection was given Nitrofutitoin. An antibiotic that’s paralysed my feet. It limits my whole life. Can anyone help me?
@@carolking6355 first take activated charcoal to get the poison out of your blood...then take hyaluronic acid and magnesium, and spirulina, I had the same thing. It helped me tremendously.
@@deedeewinfrey3181 5. WUNDERBAR, I WISH I COULD MEET HER, SHE IS AN INSPIRATION, AND FOR DD , YES FOLLOW THE ADVICE, MY MOM WAS A HERBALIST, AND HELPED PEOPLE, AND KEEP PRAYING FOR PROPER GUIDANCE
God bless her soul. May she rest in peace. May perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of the faithful departed through the Mercy of God rest in peace, Amen.
@edenintexas what a gift from God. I wish I had that. My Mama and Daddy are dead, my brother just died and my other brother is in the hospital now. All my uncles are dead. All my grandparents are dead. My best friends 19 year old beautiful daughter just died too. No warning. This world is filled with so much pain. Just to have a friend who has lived this long who can share so much of life with you what a blessing.
Yolanda Wooten-Mitchell - I agree with your sentiment, but you obviously haven’t come across old gals the likes of my great-aunt Mabel, aged 96 - “The Accountant”...
hebneh I have a question because I have my own little theory. Your mom is all there mentally. Does she also have decent hearing and vision? Doesn’t matter if she has to wear glasses or a hearing aid. I’ve noticed that the older people that are very mentally sharp also seem still able to hear and see. What I was thinking is that if you can still hear and see good then your brain is still being stimulated. Therefore you lose less neurons. I think really rings true with the vision and the ability to be able to read. Like I said this is my own little theory. I’m just an interested person. I’m not in that field of study.
Yes, she can hear and see, although of course both of those senses are impaired somewhat. I agree these would be more likely to keep someone going longer.
There was no mention of her being MARRIED ?? was she ?? It would have been nice if she had a lovely Husband to share her life with ..and CHILDREN ?? SUCH A BEAUTIFUL LADY.XX.🥰🥰💗
@MMM. It defiantly depends what generation a person is born into. None of my generation born in the 1950’s is doing very well. Sedentary office jobs, little exercise, fast food, food grown with pesticides. My grandparents and their parents grew their own food and worked hard physically in the gardens, fields, yards. They used almost no pesticide and what they did use on rare occasion was a mild seven dust. But the corporation recently changed the formula to something toxic. They all lived into upper 80’s and into upper 90’s. My Dad taught school and was somewhat sedentary at work but he always worked hard in the yard and had physical hard jobs in the summer and lived to 84 even after factoring some years of smoking and drinking at earlier age, Of course with teaching he had real good health insurance which helped a lot. Good insurance is gone now days unless a person is rich or has great corporate job to cover it which are few, So I expect life expectancy will be dropping in the future. If a person can’t be physically active and eat right at least be rich like Crosby of crosby, stills, nash and young where a person can buy a new liver. 🤣
ShiftCtrl85 oh yeah, I would absolutely agree with that although maybe she didn't die of a chronic illness, maybe it was just kind of her time but yeah, I see what you're saying, people can be very ill but it might not necessarily look like it from the outside. I wonder though if it is also the same the other way around, for example, some people look terrible on the outside, like they are really ill, but I wonder if (some of them) might not be 🤷🏽♀️ I've never considered that before, lol!
Things can go downhill fast when you're that old. She's lucky she didn't live a long drawn out half life for years in assisted living, which is the fate of so many.
With supercenterians, they often are very sharp mentally and do well physically until around 105, and then experience a quick decline. Glad that she was so healthy to such an old age.
I heard before the American lifestyle and diet got so bad if you didn't subcome to a diease or infection most old people followed that pattern. Good health up to the very end, then a short but sharp decline. I hope to live that way.
@@jackdelane I'm intrigued by what causes that sharp and fast decline after 100 or 105? We do see supercenterians but how common is it to see someone at 115 or 120? So, I still have that question.
Probably most of america because coronary artery disease is the number one top killer of people here, and it's strictly from a animal and dairy diet. It is completely preventable but people are losing their loved ones all the time because they don't want to make the necessary substitutions and lead a healthier life
She is SO right "if you are not in good health, you are not going to enjoy anything." This made me cry as a person born with chronic health issues. I cannot seem to fix my health no matter how good I eat or take care of myself. I agree HEALTH IS EVERYTHING, only sick people can truly appreciate what that means.
She's right. One takes it for granted, until it is destroyed. My story is a tick bite, that wasn't detected. Got me Lyme Disease, that got a bit better, but still I am handicapped by it. In what should be the prime of my life, I feel older than my 85 year old neighbor. Did in two sessions very light garden work today, whilst sitting. So much hurts now, that I feel ill from it. Finally did take another pain killer, though I want to go easy on my liver.
I think I found my new role model. Didn't have college debt, no credit cards, didn't buy what she could never afford, no kids, positive attitude... SMART LADY!!!!!!!
Great interview. When the guy asked her what does it mean to be rich, she said it doesn’t mean money. It’s Good health. Soooo True, without good health, it’s just hard to be happy. Good health is the key for me. Money is good and all but good health to me, is better.
I must agree with her on that. I know that sense my health has started to go south, I have lost some of my zest for life. The sad part is my age. I'm to young to be falling apart at the seams. I feel like a young woman at heart, but the body is playing out way to soon. I try to be active as possible, but I sure miss being able to jump up and do the things I then took for granted. I worked to long to hard and it caught up with me. Hips replaced was the start. Then the back went. I still try to do things, but forget I can't stand up anymore. I caught myself planning a trip to go dig gem stones in Arkansas. Hello!!! How the Hell am I going to do that. lol... Forget a bucket list. lol... BTW... Even though your young and in good shape, make sure you eat right. Diabetes sucks, and will effect your whole body. Every organ and even your skin.
@Noonie162 I like how you payed attention on the most important stuff she shared. GOD willing GOD will send you the same blessings health, good friends and a long beautiful life 🙏
@@knittingbandit8493 Where does all this god stuff come from? Lots of people live long happy lives who don't believe in your god or any god. Doing smart things to become/stay healthy and being kind to yourself is what's important for your health - no god necessary. I don't believe in any god and I'm very healthy - I'm lucky, but not because of god.
This sweet woman reminds me so much of my mom who lived to age 95. My mom was a strong Christian. She was sharp as a tack right up until the end just like this dear woman. My mom also grew up in Missouri and taught school before she married my dad. She even used some of the same expressions in her speech that I haven't heard others use very often. Tears!
She looked amazing and had a wonderful memory. She kept herself current and engaged in activities. We could learn a lot from Fern and others that live a long time. I'm not surprised that she lived to be 105. Such wisdom.
My next-door neighbor died at 102 in 1984, I was 17, and spent A LOT of time throughout my childhood and early teens talking with him. He was a wonderful gift to our neighborhood and inspiration. He stayed active, ate moderately, smoked a pipe, cigars and drank a 6 pack of Yuengling beer per week, retired after 50+ years as a machinist, was married twice. His second wife was 36 years younger than him, they married when he was 66 yrs old.
This lady’s got it figured out. I really enjoyed hearing her perspective. This is someone who enjoys the here and now, but still holds on to good memories. Too many people live in a “what if” world. They’re never happy. So they die early and miserable. Be like Fern Groh!
She sure is a beautiful person, inside and out! She has the greatest outlook on life. She is very wise, lives simply and stays happy. I love her beautiful smile!! 😊
I cried for almost 10 mins when I saw this. Reminder of my good friend that was almost 60 years older than I was and he was my best friend. 28 years, throughout my childhood, this man taught me how to live.
Thank you for all your positive and caring comments. She was simply a fabulous person. This video accurately captures her authentic, loving personality!!!
What a beautiful lady inside & out! I wish I could’ve known her!…. She may have retired from teaching many years ago, but she was still teaching those who were fortunate enough to know her! She gave a lot of great advice in this interview!…. Rest in peace, sweet Fern🙏✝️❤️
O my...how wonderful...she just gave me the best secret in life..that is to be happy and take proper care of myself..i was so depressed thinking im running out of time, getting older...but she proved me very wrong..thank you so much for sharing...im just gonne be happy from now on🤗
@Blessed Bears. Know what you mean. My Grandmas would go visit other old ladies and I loved going to visit and listen the them when I was little. Sometimes they bored me but not often. Their smiles and laughter meant a lot and hearing the occasional old story of by gone eras.
I probably watched this more than a dozen since I first saw it no more than 3years ago. She deserves all that she had especially the happiness you can see in her. I can feel her heart. She's incredibly witty, honest and so down-to-earth, and most importantly her faith in God is so inspiring. I hope that she prays for all of us to live the way she has lived. She's a saint to me, a truly blessed person.
I wish I could've been a part of her life. She's so beautiful inside and out with perfect skin. She is truly happy and such a great example of what a Christian should look and sound like. No telling how many lives she has changed being admired by everyone that crossed her path in this life. I believe she got a straight ticket to Heaven and a bit of Heaven on earth. To bad its so few and far between to cross someone like her and she will continue to change everyone that listens to her.
@Cathy Scarvey. Don’t let the perfect skin fool ya. She isn’t dirt poor and a good dermatologist goes a long way. Plus she had only inside work, didn’t get out in the sun, I go to church with well to do ladies up in years. They go missing for several months and suddenly emerge 50 pounds thinner and with their eye bags gone. When asked they say they were off visiting family out of state or they just did a detox diet.
Wow what a wonderful woman. She's a woman with wisdom. So sharp minded. I wish our generation could live this long. May she R.I.P, definitely admired her. ;)
Always love older people. I grow up with my greatgrand mother, who died at 106 years old in 1969 until now I do miss her so much she was a wise and loving. woman.God bless them all.
WOW.....I wish I could have known her. What an inspiration. My mother was like that, always happy and she loved people and God, she passed at age 93. I miss her so. I'm going to save this video so that when I'm down I can listen to it again. It really makes me feel happy. Rest in peace sweet lady.
@oleander garden. Most of them are actually younger. They weren’t born in hospitals back then and children didn’t have social security numbers so there was no legal documentation as to where they were born to prove their age. Some lie on purpose for attention and money and some simply can’t remember their age so they pick one.
Listening to Fern is calming. I work with the elderly and in particular, 3 Centenarians. Fern is very alert and 'with it'. Only one of the ladies is this alert but in body not so healthy. I find that they all have a clear message. Live a healthy and good life.
I really wish that I was raised by The Greatest Generation in the 1940s/'50s. They have such good values and know what life is about. We are so out of touch these days and everybody and their momma is depressed.
Nikoletta omg. I hope her family getting all her memoirs in detail on film. Just 20 min at a time for months. Don’t tire her. Interview best time of day for her and just let her talk at her own pace. Don’t fire questions at her. Just let her TALK
Smart as a whip and such a beautiful spirit .......wishing her many more years & Blessings! I'd love to hear her life story when young an see pics too.
What a blessing of a video! What a beautiful person she was. That is what a relationship with God can do for you and your health. Look at the peace this women had. I really enjoyed listening to her. Thank You Fern!!!
Fern is lovely and she looks so much younger than 103 and has such a sharp mind. However, many people who believe in a god do not live long lives or even have good health. What could that mean?
Lois, there is no single one variable dear... Spirituality has been studied and it does have a very significant positive effect on a person's sense of well-being and therefore, contributes to their overall health.
This lady is one of the most beautiful people I have ever seen. She is beautiful inside. She is beautiful outside. She is so wise. Reminds me of my grandma who passed away at age 89 after working to support her family from her teenaged years to age 65. She worked in the State of Missouri Cancer Hospital laundry, became the supervisor eventually and loved it. My grandma always saved and always used cash. What a fabulous generation.
What a sweet lady, I would not have guessed she was almost 103! I would have guessed mid to late 80's.. I love these kinds of videos. Thanks for sharing.
Wonderful What a blessing to have this recorded. I’m fortunate to have all four of my grandparents in video. My son is old enough to have great memories of my moms parents. But my daughter is 12 years younger than her brother and doesn’t remember them they passed when she was little. My dads parents passed when I was a older teen. Oh how I miss my dads mom still.
