That goal shows everything Torres had at his peak - timing of the run, pace, strength to brush Ferdinand off and then the composure to beat van der Sar. Maybe my favourite Torres goal.
Torres would generate tremendous shot power out of nothing. The kid was a menace to all defenders whom crossed his path. Torres is a Liverpool legend in my book.
Torres in that period where he terrorised Terry at Chelsea, Ferdinand and Vidic at United, Cannavaro, Ramos and Pepe at Madrid, Maicon at Milan etc… incredible peak
That was the match changed my life. I fell in love with Torres, I fell in love with Liverpool and i started learning spanish because liverpool used to be so spanish in Rafa era.
I mean at the time..if u understand football.when watching him u could feel that he could do everything he wanted on the pitch. He could be another R9 of his time unfortunately.... But prime Torres is one of the very very best strikers ever
Liverpool were blessed with a series of fantastic strikes over the last decade and a half - torrres Suarez Salah, Firmino, hall-of-fame material, each and every one
We had world class players back then but the team wasn’t good. From the start of 2000s I think the gerard houllier treble and the 2008/09 was the only good sides we had. The 2008/09 was underachieving IMO . The team was good enough to win epl and ucl but we had thin squad that season. The 2004/05 was decent too also the 2014/13 but wasn’t convincing. we just couldn’t keep our world class players back then. And now I am still pinching myself that we have world class players in almost every position and very good squad too. And of course we have klopp. I hope we can keep this tradition of having world class team for years to come
Torres had injuries else we would have won. And carragher agger and co. Didn't help our cause. They weren't champions level defenders. If we had van dyik instead of carragher then
@@EminentKnightTorres Is wayyyyy better than salah lol never mind haaland💀🤦♂️ Torres in his prime was literally being compared to Man U Ronaldo🤷♂️ you saying salah is better than young Ronaldo?
SWOOPED AT MADRID AS A YOUNG GOOD PLAYER....TO COME TO THE BIGGEST CLUB IN THE WORLD...TO BECOME THE BEST STRIKER IN THE WORLD( AT THE TIME)....YOU WON IT ALL KID TORRES ...YNWA !😂😂😂⚽🙏🐐👑💖💪💪🔥AND DON'T LET ANYBODY TELL YOU OTHERWISE !🤫🤫🤫💪💪💖💖👍👍👍⚽🙏🐐👑
What I don't like about Torres: he falls quite easily ... but what forward doesn't? What I like about Torres: he doesn't complain/cry much! Even when Evra or Vidic applied some tough fouls on him, he didn't seem to complain/cry/whine. Vidic, after one particular tough foul, helps Torres up. Shows they respected the guy.
To be fair - and I absolutely love Torres and think this was the most exciting era of prem history (I’m only 23 so this was like the golden years to me), it’s fucking mental to think anyone can compare this quality to today. That many mistouches and passes out of play would be getting subbed off after the first half nowadays. But that goal shows what the real quality was about, being able to score from a bobbly ball running against a unit like Rio Ferdinand. I know Torres has some amazing goals and obviously some characteristics that would still be relevant today but yeah, he was just a full on predator for that goal wasn’t he
Commented elsewhere, he was an apex predator. Never stopped. Never phased. Always hunting. Never gave anything other than 100%. Nightmare for centerbacks. Wore down Vidic and Ferdinand until they showed weakness, then he went for the kill.
i know this might not have been in the peak of vidic or ferdinand but the amount of mistakes they make in this video alone does make me think maybe van dijk is the best prem cb ever. They did it for alot more years but even van dijks worst season he only made a few mistakes across the year that led to goals, and obviously in his prime years he put a foot wrong once or twice in a whole season
With benefit of hindsight he should never have left, very much a case of what might have been because if he maintained these levels at Liverpool he would certainly had a different career. Was without doubt a quality player though while we had him. Viva FT ⚽️
He was on the decline anyway, it was the right time to sell. Should have been just as ruthless with Salah and firmino when their stock was higher, then rebuilt the squad.
He was never the same after the injury.. so it was a good timing for Liverpool when Chelsea offered 50m. We got Suarez for 25m then splashed 35m on Carroll.
What you should have said was you wish you never got injured after his injury he was never the same but it's a damn good thing that he left and went to Chelsea because you guys got Suarez and torres got to win the Champions League
@JSB-1976 This was just a home game that Liverpool were up for because firstly it's ManUtd who they always try harder against and secondly they were I think 8th before kick-off. Nothing to get carried away about.
Torres in Liverpool was ruthless and unplayable, with a few quality signings they would lift the PL and a shame he didn't win it. Was a joy to watch with that speed and technique he had.
X.ALONSO,GERRARD,AGGER,CARRA,F.AURELIO,MASCHERANO,RIERA,TORRES,CROUCH,P.REINA(AS CURRENT BACK UP GK) IN THIS 2022-2023 SQUAD....EVERYBODY IN ENGLAND AND IN EUROPE WOULD HAVE NO CHOICE BY TO DOWN THEIR TOOLS !👑🇬🇬🔥💖🙏🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🐐🤫😂😂😂😂😂💖💖💖💖💖
The entire squad of 2008- 09, I remember , and to me they all glitters as golden stars. unfortunately they did not won the title and till now I feel sad for them,,specially for gerrard,, the superhero of my teen days.
Liverpool won at all costs yet....penultimate game of the season their last home game vs ManUtd's title challengers (Chelsea) and Liverpool with nothing left to play for themselves in a dire season throw the game away so ManUtd don't overtake Liverpool on league title wins. Gerrard backpass to Drogba. Also this game vs ManUtd. Carragher got away with 2 last man fouls and a strong out of control tackle on Carrick in the box and LucasLavor was allowed to foul all game and not get booked.
Unpopular opinion but looking back it's clear as day that Torres was never a naturally world class player he just had more heart than anyone on the pitch at the time and his confidence was at a place very few get to.
Él Nino was athletico captain at 17, the sheer quality of his finishing, touches, passing and his ability to turn suddenly and ghost defenders, idk how you can say he wasn't world class.
They beat Torres loads of times and prevented him scoring loads of times. He scored a few but don't most strikers over the course of many games against a team? Fowler, Shearer, Owen etc...they all scored many vs ManUtd but ManUtd were still the team having most of the celebrations compared to those players.
