Bueller's Day Off is a 1986 American teen coming-of-age comedy film written and directed by John Hughes.
The film follows high school senior Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick), who decides to skip school and spend the day in downtown Chicago. Accompanied by his girlfriend Sloane Peterson (Mia Sara) and his best friend Cameron Frye (Alan Ruck), he creatively avoids his school's Dean of Students Edward Rooney (Jeffrey Jones), his resentful sister Jeanie (Jennifer Grey), and his parents. During the film, Bueller frequently breaks the fourth wall by speaking directly to the camera to explain to the audience his techniques and thoughts.
Hughes wrote the screenplay in less than a week and shot the film-on a budget of $6 million-over several months in late 1985. Featuring many famous Chicago landmarks including the then Sears Tower and the Art Institute of Chicago, the film was Hughes' love letter to the city: "I really wanted to capture as much of Chicago as I could. Not just in the architecture and landscape, but the spirit."
Shooting for Ferris Bueller's Day Off began in Chicago just after the Labor Day weekend, on Monday, September 9, 1985. In late October 1985, the production would move to Los Angeles. Shooting for Ferris Bueller's Day Off' ended on Friday, November 22, 1985. The Von Steuben Day Parade scene was filmed on September 28, 1985, which was a Saturday. The majority of the film was shot in and around New Trier High School's Freshman campus in Northfield, formerly known as New Trier West, in the fall of 1985. Scenes were also filmed at several locations in downtown Chicago and Winnetka (Ferris's home, his mother's real estate office, etc.). Many of the other scenes were filmed in Northbrook, Illinois, including at Glenbrook North High School, on School Drive, the famous long curvy street on which Glenbrook North and neighboring Maple Middle School are situated. Many students at the school served as extras. Most of the school's interior shots, though, were filmed at the shuttered Maine North High School. The exterior of Ferris's house is located at 4160 Country Club Drive, Long Beach, California.
The modernist house of Cameron Frye is located at 370 Beech Street, Highland Park, Illinois 60035

This movie will always hold such a special place in the minds and hearts of those of us who experienced it when it first came out. There was just something magical about the 1980's! I'm so glad I got to experience it as a teenager.

That’s true, although I liked Weird Science more back then. I still remember two guys from the parallel class, Jörg Kellers and Sven Herzog - it’s amazing that I still recall their names 38 years later - telling me that they had skipped school the day before and watched the film in the morning at the cinema. Sven was not thrilled that the Ferrari got wrecked. I only saw the movie later on video. But then I watched it countless times.

@strivingformindfulness2356
@strivingformindfulness2356 4 года назад
They only used a real Ferrari for close-up shots. It was WAY too expensive to damage & destroy one. John Hughes used a replica, the 1985 Modena GT Spyder California; he bought three Modenas-two to shoot throughout the movie, and one fiberglass shell to roll out the window at the end.

Every single person has their best year, in their own mind. For me, it was 1978. I was in the 8th grade, had the cutest girlfriend, who happened to have the coolest mom, and she let us sleep over. There was no sex, or even sexual pressure. We just loved each other, held each other, and were very happy. Sadly, she broke it off, probably for another guy, and life moved on. Still, it’s nice to remember, isn’t it? Go back,remember, smile.

John Hughes lived and worked in Lake Forest Il., many of the films he did were shot and based near or in Lake Forest, a beautiful sleepy town, it was close to home for me I was from Libertyville Il. a few towns down from there, his untimely loss was devastating to all of us who grew up in the 80es, he was so dialed into the mindset of teenage angst and outlook, as a 18 year old teen at the time most of his movies were made, I felt that at last our voices where finally being heard, thanks to John Hughes and his spot on movie plots....

This is like the1st time I spend so much time scrolling thru as many comments as I can and see how everyone feels that feeling about the era we just knew was so much better than today. Just shows how precious it was.

1 of my favorite movies ever, my dad showed me this. I love everything about it and the soundtrack is so enriching and joyful. The sardonic humor of late teenagers they really captured the times perfectly in this movie. Even Charlie Sheen’s brief role toward the end was enjoyable. Time always seems to go by so fast every time I watch this film, the best ones always do that.

I don't know why I get so emotional watching these video revisiting old film locations. I guess I just want to go back and revisit the 80's just one more time. Oh well...luckily we got RU-vid, so we can go back to the 80's whenever we feel like it. rip Mr. Hughes, thanks for the great memories.

Incredible job, good on you!! very much enjoyed, I was 16 when this film came out..John Hughes was the voice of my generation...God I miss those days, America is not even close to the same place, seeing this made me get a tear...The Smiths was a perfect touch for the music.
