The game is amazing. People are shitting at this for some reason that I don't understand. The remakes are better than the original in every way. The sales aren't low to begin with.
I got an idea Synth man. Ocarina of Time but stretched out to three games, the time travel gets twisted to be extremely convoluted and they add a lot of filler.
Chrono Trigger but add diversity(no whites besides the villains ) have trans, gay characters, and furries. Anti capitalism but pro corporatism themes. -------------------------------------------------------------------not being serious
Ff7 OG: Cloud loses his mind, gives world-ending Materia to Sephiroth, BEATS Aerith up. Aerith runs away, nobody knows where she is, cloud sees her in a dream where she tells only him her plan. Aerith gets killed in front of Cloud before he can even speak with her again. She will never laugh, cry or get angry again. Remake: Cloud loses his mind, is somewhat rude to Aerith. Gives the world-ending Materia to Sephiroth. Aerith tells everyone her plan to summon Holy, Cloud saves her in one timeline, but she’s dead in this one but despite being dead cloud can still see and talk to her.
yup, I knew the original was too rough and daring for them to play it straight. in og, the player hated Cloud up until the point Tifa pulls him out of the LifeStream, and for some, their perception of Cloud never recovers, which is as it should be.
tbh when he stood up in the truck and was so much bigger and taller and imposing than cloud and the 2 soldiers with them even I as a straight man was kinda like "damn.."
The original is special because its a standalone story that not only has a ton of charm and wonder to the story, but also the world itself. The remakes are a huge example of why bigger doesn't better. You can have a larger story, and you can have a larger world, but you risk the soul of the original in the process.
Also the old 3d overworld map gave the impression of a worldspanning adventure, same for FF8 and the old Tales of games. So it didn't need to have a big open world. In fact in my imagination those older games had bigger worlds then most of the new games because of how the world was presented and composed. Imagination did the rest. My biggest gripe with the game beside the kingdom hearts "flair" and some tedious open world segments and sidequests are the NPCs, that look like they could be tourists from our world. Diversity in Nibelheim, a small medieval town with norse mythology name isn't needed in my opinion, it takes away from the atmosphere.
If they just updated the game play to be better, and graphics and stuck to the original like demons souls did they'd be doing fine Everyone's gotta fuckin self insert because narcisism
I played a heavily modded PC version of the OG right before the hype built up for Remake. It was the definitive FF7 experience for me. Better graphics, better translations, higher difficulty, and the same great story.
Its not like it matters that much anymore. Square Enix is circling the drain financially. FFXVI was a giant financial flop and the FFVII remakes only appeal to aging millenials. Within 10 years, Square will likely be wholly owned by Sony.
It may be a Square game, but they've always been in bed with Sony. Look how many timed exclusives and exclusives they'd had with Sony. Hell, this game is a time exclusive until it drops on PC and maybe Xbox .

You didn't think to try the option that shows up literally nowhere else in the entire game, in a game where none of the options previously let you pick up in the middle of a boss fight? They could have phrased it better, but the only way you could fuck that up is if you literally never died at any other point in the game and thus never saw the options (or just slipped up like Synthetic Man did). And I'm not saying it's the hardest game around, but come on.

Wow was it really the PS3 I thought when they tease the remake it was for the PS4 regardless I was going to try it back in the day since I skipped the original since I hate turn base games, but after seeing how this s*** show has turned out I'm good.
Its a shame. It would have been perfectly fine with updated graphics and gameplay yet they butcher the most important aspects of the game. I think dunkey said it best about the game : "The original you grind through the combat to get to the story while the remakes you grind through the story to get to the combat".
People say that but the combat in the original was, at the very least, fast and easy. You could blitz through it fairly easily. Here, the story AND combat AND exploration are slow as hell.

They messed up when they decided to close down Sony Japan Studios and move their headquarters to LA and start westernizing all of their games. There is an old saying, you never burn a bridge you may need to cross again, and in this case Sony did.

Dude it's so crazy I did the same thing picking the wrong option to retry the final battle. I was like WTF were those options? I was pissed for an hour fighting my way back.
I don't blame him for that mistake (still it was funny), it's usually the first option, but the wording is really bad on the checkpoint menu, I probably would have made the same mistake. I saw his live stream he took his time to read the menu and was still wrong. He didn't go quick and not read it.
He forgot to mention that her face is also absolutely gorgeous. For many of square's faults (and there are many, MANY faults), they knocked it out of the park with Tifa's look in the remake. My only two nitpicks would be her somewhat censored outfit compared to the original (for which I'm sure there are PC mods to fix) and that her arms and legs could be a tad thicker since she is a brawler.

I watched that scene and was genuinely confused as to whether she had been stabbed or not, they messed up the one scene they had to get right but that's pretty standard with everything these days.
The rating system was SUPPOSED to just mean 'supervision required' not that a kid can't see a rated R movie, but that they should be advised to have parental supervision. People have since turned it into the law of the land.
yes and the sad part was for red it made sense since how close to the end of the game it was but for vincent and cid they join early enough were they could be playable but chooses not to be so that we have new playable characters in part 3

Dude you're missing out. Synth is wrong as hell here. I played the OG game on release and have gone through it at least 10 times. These remakes are great. There's some bad changes, but overall very good.

The Paper Mario series ever since Sticker Star has been a hot mess of a dumpster fire. I have never been so happy to hear about the TTYD Remake. I can be content with that (provided it's not a terrible remake) while Intelligent System continues to make shitty Paper Mario games.

I remember some actually good gamejournos talking about how the previews should be more critical and honest, but they literally cant because the developer just wont let them preview their game. Well, now they completely bypass the journos, and send it to "your favorite youtuber" who has no editorial ethical oversight, and is more than happy to just be free publicity. Pretty much the best generation for me was the 90s been collecting as much stuff from the 80s to the 90s up till around 2000 after that it was downhill.

I played FF7 originally in English as a kid like everyone else. After learning Japanese & recently playing it again ( like a couple months ago) I realized how much that translation blows but the core message was there. Once someone's gone THEY'RE GONE & inside us all is part of us that we don't understand . The atmosphere is heavy, people self deleting, characters committing terrorism This Remake project comes across as a disrespectful cash grab to be "Different" for the sake of it. Bingo, is the idea, once someone is gone, is gone, and one must accept it, for one part, you feel it loose and for another, it is there, it touch your life and it is part of your life, but for me the best part is Cloud saying he will figth, not for the world, but for his friend and loves one, not the world, and i love the message because now we have made so much, save the world and justice and that, i really miss that. Every single dialogue I've seen in this game gives me the strongest feeling of second hand embarrassment. It's the type of game you don't want someone walking in while you're playing it.

Good post. Generally speaking since each FF is its own contained story, nobody really wanted a prequel or a story about a story... graphical fidelity and improvements to plotholes in the original story along with 30 extra minigames would have been fine. Along with 3 materia slot weapons and better descriptions of the materia would have been just fine. Less on their budget and probably better received, too.
Cid's alterations are bad enough that it is practically a complete deal breaker without anything else being taken into account. I suppose that it was hoping for too much that such a cantankerous character could be accurately replicated in a game where DEI is considered even in passing.
He together with Barrett would be dudes to swear or use bad language. But I believe they're Both toned down to the point of them being a Shell of their former selves...

Not even Squeenix's inclusion of fujoshi fanservice for the "Cloud x Sephy lovers" was enough to prevent the game from bombing financially. The game really has some pathetic sales numbers considering that it's FF7 - one of the most popular franchises in existence. It's really telling that the "spooky ghost" addition left a bad taste in people's mouths in the first remake.

Sephiroth was already aware that Jenova wasn't an Ancient by the time of the present, with him also hearing Aerith tate he wasn't one at the TotA in the OG. The real fuck up Rebirth makes is not having him show up earlier at the mansion to reveal Jenova being a "Calamity from the Skies" before throwing materia at Cloud's nuts, basically being the confirmation of his discovery of the truth during his time in the Lifestream. It's amazing how, in a series of titles where he keeps popping up when he shouldn't, he doesn't the one time he's expected to appear.
In many Japanese media creation circles, the central thought process is give the potential player a ton of different characters and hope they'll latch on to at least one of them, if not several. The story becomes an afterthought, more or less. Take a look at the gacha games and such. I'm playing Unicorn Overload via emulation and the art is charming and some characters shine through but the overall story is nothing special. Last time a Final Fantasy story was somewhat compelling for me was 10. Even though many of the same themes borrowed from 7 (not all), but just wrapped up in a different way & different emphasis on each.

Now I'm no megafan of Final Fantasy, although I did like X despite its many, MANY issues. I do have a friend who used to be a megafan though (he quit the series with the trainwreck that was XIII), and when I jokingly sent the new remake story flowchart to him, his immediate reaction was "what the fuck is this?" And he can pretty much recite every major story event from the original VII to this day, even though he played the original like 20+ years ago, when it originally came out. The very fact that Sephiroth even shows up so early in the original Remake for fanservice already ruins the story.
Your friend sounds like me. I knew the remake was going to be bad after I ran through the demo, when they took the entire bombing and morality away from Avalanche. In FF7 you start as terrorists, villains, fighting against a great villain. You start FF7 by killing hundreds of innocent people. When they took that aspect away from the player and very importantly Barrett's character development I immediately new the Remake was off the rails in a bad direction. Annoying to see even in Rebirth now they still interrupt the fight with phase change cutscenes that cancel limits and atb(while still consuming meter) if you make the mistake of using one "at the wrong time". I ran into that when I fought the Guard Scorpion in the demo, bad game design that should have been worked around before even the demo release.
I'm glad somebody is pointing out the BS. I won't name them but there's RU-vidrs who are strongly against SBI, etc who tote this game as good. Yet I see the changes and think...... no. This is dog water. A remake should take 100% of the original game in its entirety of story, characters, etc and should only add to it. Add story to make poorly written sections make sense and improve graphics and gameplay. Unfortunate. I'm glad the game is failing. The companies need to learn. Nobody wants this!
4-8 productions is the FF7 guy and he loves these remakes. It's crazy. They have 0 replay value, while he's replayed the original a hundred times. No one finds that weird??

Story feels like a fanfic you'd see written by a teen desperately wanting more of FF7's universe in general. Watch part 3 bring Advent Children Cloud into the story somehow since we need more of everything for fan "fun"

Something else that was really stupid was Cissnei. She knows who Cloud is why isn’t she asking him where the fuck is Zack? If you played Crisis Core you know she feels some kind of way about him she’s living in his fuckin hometown like god damn dude that made me mad. Why was she even in the game?!
@@hector4470 She doesn’t appear to be working with Shinra anymore. Even if she was you would think she would pull Cloud or Caith Sith to the side and ask what’s going on? Maybe there’s side missions that explain it. I was defeated by that point and gave up on the side content.
Lots of moments like this in this "game". - Why didn't anyone sitdown and talk it out after Cloud tried to kill Tifa? And Sephiroth saves Tifa... like, wat? - Temple of the Ancients, with Cloud acting funny. Why didn't anyone address that? Many such cases.
When you talked about sephiroth wanting to merge all the timelines or multiverses i immediately thought of Crisis on Infinite Earths. Even the story changes arent original. Though what is anymore.

It's sad but true. JUST PLAY THE GOOD ONE. If you let yourself get past the lego people it really is one of the best RPGs ever. It absolutely holds up, and you don't have to buy 3 fucking separate $70 games.
I tried to replay it and I can't believe I enjoyed it the first time around. Couldn't get past the underground area with aerith. I felt like my time was constantly wasted and any player choice was stripped from me. In fact that's the entire game. It's a padded out boring mess with cutesy story beats that make me cringe.

I will say that the wokeness in this game is so over the top (particularly the gay stuff) it is practically a mockery of wokeness. it doesn’t carry the bitter anti-white/anti-male undercurrents that you get in most western games, and the girls are mostly hot and girly which is nice too. Other than that I agree this is a long, drawn out slog that doesn’t do any justice to the original game. although as an old OG fan it did make me feel things at several points.
Its because lucky for us Japan doesn't understand the woke shit they themselves were forced to put into the game. In Japan gay people are to be made fun of, super flamboyant and basically clowns. So when they try to cater to this mental demographic in the west. This is what they make.
I think in the minds of the devs the crappy Compilation (you know, those FFVII spinoffs and stuff) was something highly acclaimed and not a mediocre disappointment both commercially and critically. Or maybe it's the opposite, they are fully aware of that and so they have devised this plan to force people to like their multiverse genius by essentially turning the original game into more Compilation garbage. I hate it either way.
Yeah, it seemed like the whole point of all these big story changes is to shoehorn in all the spinoff games no one cares about. Does anyone aside from Square really care if PSP spinoff games from 15 years ago are canon?

All the side-story non AAA content shoehorned into the main story and it becomes apparent it doesn't fit well as a cohesive whole and the entire story suffers as a result of this very lazy & hasty stitching together. I never gave a damn about the Compilation games or thought highly of the very emo & anime Advent Children but they decided to cram it all in there. Maximum slop. Maybe FFX-3 will make X-2 canon? Yuna became a cali valley girl & hussy when Tidus disappeared... and started using firearms and clothes as her primary weapons. Totally makes sense, narratively... sigh. It's all so tiresome...
damn, this looks mega ghey. Im glad i left this game behind as a childhood memory. Cid was my favorite character, and that voice of Red13.. its like they intentionally gutted this game of all its edge and what made it interesting.
Tifa was the carrot on a stick and i didn't fall for it. I operate on passiveness now where if they keep that energy then i will say they "changed". Some people were too quick to praise the swimsuit.
I've been warning people for years this shit was only going to get worse, and no one believed me. In fact, I was called a hater/crazy for being one of the few who hated 7R. Everything about these "remakes" are to actively shit on the original and piss off fans.

Japan was never THAT based. Back in the 70's they bend the knee to outrage mobs for the character of Fujiko in Lupin III, censoring most of the clothes she was about to wear later during the first season because moms were upset about, need I remind, an adult Anime. (from wich the very pilote shows someoneripping her top, revealing her breasts) Then you got the "Prophecy of Nostradamus" film, wich outrage mob suceeded in not censoring it, but outright banning the film, if you go to Japan, as far as Toho is concerned, that movie doesn't exist. One of their most renown director said "Japan would be better once the local population is not the global one". And to give a more recent one (tho 20 years old now) you got game commercials banned for being too scary (despite being horror game trailers) like Silent Hill 4 or Forbidden Siren (or was it another?). Maybe I'm biased, but I've seen way more "based" work in my continental Europe than in Japan. (Most of those works have never been translated into English, tho, and the fact Europe is more and more "Americanised" makes the young behave in outrage mob like the comic book geeks of the US getting panick attacks over actual display of sexuality) I respect Japan, heck, I practive their beliefs actually, but it was doomed to follow that path.

Pros: Expanding on existing character's dialogue/personality in depth. Expanding on existing locations and additional locations. Everything that stuck with the original story. Remixed soundtracks/themes. Cons: Everything to do with the flying dirty dish rag "time jannies". The plot twist/changes in original arcs (such as Dyne being captured by the prison gang and being gunned down by Shinra. So r'tarded." Sephiroth appearing every 20 minutes or so. The tonal whiplashes after "dramatic/tragic" scenes.
@@billjacobs521 What I mean by expanding on the characters is their dynamics, although Cloud seems to talk way less in this than he did in the OG... As for the locations they do seem more realistic and fleshed out, they are as big as they should be. What kills the pacing is the amount of shitty mini-games...And I DO prefer the OG soundtracks more, because of that unique soundfont and the vibes they give, very well suited and memorable....some of the music in the Remake/Rebirth is just too much sometimes...
I'm so sick of all modern remakes having such terrible changes whether they be gameplay and or story wise. My God this is getting old and quite frankly depressing. Not that it should be a surprise to anyone but it looks like Resident Evil 1 will forever be the greatest remake ever made. Not that the competition is very fierce whatsoever.

Square really needs to stop with these overly convoluted stories, especially adding all these weird plot elements to a story that is considered a gaming classic and just adding in confusing multiple timeline stuff. Jrpgs usually have enough convoluted stuff as is without going more off the rails just so they can make their 4-5 spinoffs of the franchise canon.

I’m sick of multiverses being used as a story device. It may be one of the latest trends in pop culture for now but it’s eventually going to run out of steam soon. Everyone’s going to grow sick of seeing it over and over again if not already. So I’m just laughing in the face of this multiverse nonsense in these FF7 remakes.
The purpose of Aerith's original death scene was to show how sudden and unceremonious death could be. This new version adds far too much drama, pomp and circumstance to the proceedings.

The actual design is slightly worse. Why is she wearing a sports bra that's larger than the tanktop she wears over it? But seeing her in high fidelity, yeah, sure.

For those of us fans that feel disenfranchised by these new "remakes" I urge you all to go check out the FF7 new threat mod. It's almost like playing a new game with new challenges, gameplay overhauls, and meaningful additions that don't sacrifice the integrity of the original story
