Hi!
Looks like we were out shopping again; this time I lucked onto a pretty decent 1953 Ford Customline 2 door sedan. Its originally a 2-tone green car with a flathead v-8 and a 3 speed stick.
She's pretty tough, and has been sitting outside in the trees for many years, but she's largely complete and I think could be saved and put together again someday. I'll keep gathering up any small missing bits and maybe try to get it running again when the weather warms up.
The car looks to have been last used in the late 1960s, judging by the age of the oil can in the trunk, and the tires still on the car. Looks like someone started to take the car apart some time ago (80's?) but gave up before they got very far.
These are good looking cars, and the CWMC used-car lot was low on Ford inventory, so I scooped this one up as soon as I could get there! Thanks so much to Dan for the tip on this one...
Well, I hope you all enjoy a quick look at this fun old Ford; she's a little tired but definitely worth saving!
Cheers from me and Stella; thanks to everyone for watching, commenting, and subscribing!

LOVE a 1953 Ford. First car I had was a '53 Ford Ranch Wagon. I had a job pumping gas, cleaning windows, and brushing out cars at a service station. The old Ford had been sitting behind the station under an oak tree for about a decade. The owner gave it to me when I was getting ready to turn sixteen. My dad and I got the thing running and painted it on my birthday. Coolest car in the high school parking lot... Thanks for shaking up the memories...

This is so cool. When I was a kid, a 56 sidevalve Cusso lived next door to me. A daily driver (and rough) it sold for a few hundred bucks. Nowadays, if you find one, people have restored them and put 351 Clevelands in them. Worth megabucks.

I had a 52 just like this one. A little rot in drivers side floor, surface rust elsewhere. Flathead and three on the tree. Fixed the rust and painted it silver metallic. Great car!

I'm sure you've discovered the following info by now... But, back then, a lot of aerospace themes were present in the automobiles ... The '53 had several ... The jet hood ornament ... The Spinner grill, represented an airplane propeller in action, as the center bullet was, well, the center, and the black indents just to the side of the center represented the spiral of a spinning propeller, and the sides of the grills were of course the propeller... The chrome trim parts behind the doors, represent a jet flying with contrail behind... The tail lights are close to looking like the exhaust portion of a jet engine ... BTW, I had '53 Customline, two door, flathead V8 for about 14 years.... Best regards, always like your clips, and your humor ...

'53 Ford was our be loved family car from '56 to '62. It was the best car our family ever had. It was very dependable. It didn't has a radio, or a passenger side sun visor. When we went on trips the whole family would sing songs.

Nice find! I'm a Ford guy and would have loved to get that car. The V8 flattys are fun to play with as well. The 49 and 50s are also a favorite. Looks like you are in the right place to find this stuff. Around here everything is very picked over or it's so bad it will crumble if you move it. Here in Wis it's like living in a salt mine, everything gets devoured by the salt if it ever goes out in winter. If we get 8" of snow, people expect to be able to drive the speed limit within a few hours so the county keeps laying on the salt until the road is bare. Great, now I can go fast but in a few years the seat falls through the floor! Go figure. Keep um comming. Thanks!

A little CWM rewind to go with my Sunday morning coffee. This fine old Ford probably belonged to a pipefitter from the local Union Hall. Imagine a Tom Waits kind of character behind the wheel. Pack of Lucky Strikes in his pocket, breathe wreaking of cheap beer and whiskey. Driving home to his old lady, serving up a Friday night fish fry. These where truly working men's cars. No such thing exists today.

That's nice! Flat head may just surprize you, I had one in an "orchard" truck that sat for what must have been a very long time. It took a week to clean out, and re-gasket but it fired right away once fluids were changed! Good find!

@pappabob29 8 лет назад
Wow!! That's one very solid looking car!! The hood was a little "tweaked" in one shot but the door gaps looked remarkably even and all the body lines were very straight. Didn't appear to be much rust and/or dent'age either. Very nice find. Looked like quite a bit of "stuff" was missing from the motor but at least the plugs were still closing up the cylinders. Anxious to hear this one run. ;o)

i think we had a '51 back in the late '50's early 60's. no trim that i can remember, pretty plain jane car, 3 speed on the column was kinda sticky. i remember dad getting under the car to giggle the linkage. i think it was painted the same color as your car. we drove it to the "Lake of the Woods" for a vacation of a lifetime for me.

Nice....on the topic of AM radio....it's a big hulking piece of chassis metal....back in those days....capacitor tuning, crystal diode (demodulation) detection and then your standard 6 to 10 transistor amplification...out to one speaker, maybe two. I must say...we've come a long way baby. Well, at least the radio is original...i'm willing to bet that radio still works or can be easily fixed...electronics back then were like bulldozers, big and stout. Clean the corrosion off the tuning capacitor and you're good to go.
