This reminds me of Dr Kalam, who said his favourite character from the Mahabharata was not Arjuna, nor Yudhishthir, nor Krishna. "My favourite character from the Mahabharata is Vidur, for he possessed the courage to speak truth to authority." Sam Manekshaw was no different. A charismatic man who played a crucial role in ensuring the stability and security of a young, independent India.

We needed a PM who gave Army Chief confidence to not only speak with full freedom, but who had full freedom afterwards to tell the story, without any repercussions. Of course, as a leader IG realised the truth in Army Chief’s statement and heeded his advise, that’s why she was able to bifurcate Pakistan despite tremendous opposition from US & China. She checkmated both, by signing a security pact with USSR during the interregnum.

That will result in Pakistan or Myanmar for you.... Army has to be under civilian leadership or else you get kings in Armed uniforms. But vice versa political leaders should respect the professional leadership and expertise of military.

The last line of “my wife had enough money” is the most important one On a very serious note. Only a man with zero incentives can have “moral courage” to speak the truth or mince no words
@anjuauroraprime2783
@anjuauroraprime2783 Год назад
No, probably partially true.... A yes man will say yes if he has ambitions and dont want to upset leadership.... Getting dismissed as a coward is a loss of honour worst than death for any military leader and irrespective of money taking that risk is called supreme courage and trust in his professional knowledge.

Sam was so clear in his thoughts and clearly very outspoken and definitely brave being the only field Marshall till date, I presume. But his outspokenness has something which we should know. He must've been very sure that he was talking to a Prime Minister who was very strong and considerate at the same time.
