I told you in the last video that this time I'd be starting to reassemble the engine, well, I was wrong. I decided there was one more step I wanted to take before it all goes back together. I wanted to clean the cylinder head and I didn't feel as though I could do that properly without stripping and rebuilding the head completely. This gave me chance to not only thoroughly clean the head but also clean and lap the valves and install new valve stem oil seals. On top of knowing everything is clean and good to go I also learned how to do all this for the first time so it was definitely a worth-while exercise. Next time - I promise I'll start rebuilding the engine!!

Lapping valves is a regular job for the old classic mini’s too mate. Also the oil seals have certainly got better and bigger since the 60s 😂 Good work again

Thank you buddy 🙏🏻 I wasn’t going to do it but someone in work who does a lot on old beetles recommended that I lap the valves and now I’ve done it it makes sense as to why.

I’m going through the same process as I had a cam belt tensioner go. I have done exactly the same, but I brought a hole complete set of valves, even though 2 inlet valves were bent. Found that Ford on the tensioner on my 2013 Fiesta ecoboost the spring on it was held with a bit of plastic, what the hell, surprised it lasted 64,000 miles!

@@MendItModIt you can at least still measure the clearences when putting the engine back together, just to be safe. Sticking a feeler gauge in there is not that much effort. That is, if you find the information about the correct clearances somewhere.

Direct injection is exactly why the inlet valves are more dirty. EGR systems are what brings all that junk through to the inlet valve. Make sure to keep a clean air filter in your car and that should help. I’m looking at getting a secondary injector that fits into the intake before the throttle body. There’s one for the Fiesta ST that should work that I can run once or twice a month as a maintenance item rather than waiting 100k+ miles before I tear the engine apart again to get them cleaned. Thanks again for doing this and documenting it all. I can’t wait to get into mine.

@@MendItModIt All it is is a milled throttle body spacer but it sits in front of the throttle body, and has a hole in the side where you can plug an injector in. Not sure exactly what it would use as a trigger, but if I get a tuner and get it tuned I’m sure they could help me set a maintenance tune where they slightly lower the duty cycle of the normal fuel injectors and make up for it with the port injector. Pretty cool set up, I’ll post the link up to the one I saw if I can find it again. Take care.

@@TheCrazyBird844 Afaik Ford does this on all 1.5 3cyl EcoBoost. not only the Fiesta. The Focus with the 150/182 hp 3cyl should have combined port/direct injection as well.

@@CherryGS Ya, most new ecoboosts have combined port and fuel injection, I’m glad ford realized direct injection alone has its problems. What I was referring to is an aftermarket solution made for the US Ford Fiesta ST with the 1.6 EcoBoost that only had direct injection.

Great explainer video! I did this for the first time just recently. There's no way I have the patience (or talent) to show it as well as you! One concern I do have is pliers on the stem seals, as they could scratch the cylinder valve guide. I bit the bullet on a kit just for stem seals nice and cheap. I also got the exact same compressor as you - cheap and cheerful!

Use a bit of grease on the collets mate also once you've installed the valves, get a deep socket say 1/4" drive 10mm, put it on top of the valve over the collet and give it a smart tap just to ensure they're seated proper. Good job bud 👍🏻

I welded a 3/8" drive socket to the end of my spring compressor. A small 3/8" drive ratchet makes compressing/decompressing the springs easier.

Good job you replaced the belt for the oil pump. Afaik thats the belt that mainly degrades and blocks the oil pump with the debris causing engine problems in the future.

Speaking of this if you keep the car make sure the ford specific 5w-20 oil is used and id say change it slightly more regulary than usual. I have also seen a theory that fuel contamination in the oil can degrade the belts so mabye using quality fules is a good option.

300nm then 90 degrees on the bolt ,, you’ll have to stand on a braker bar to do it ,, I’ve repaired over 10 cars in this way,, pretty easy but remember to get a new bolt , £7 genuine Ford one off eBay

My focus 1.0 ecoboost I plugged my other diagnostics scanner in and it says this fault is Power supply fuel pump Short circuit to positive or open Intermittent I ordered a low pressure fuel pump that will sort it i can start the car and rev it up but when let it idle car just dies and if i rev it it will stay running for a couple of minutes with accelerator keot pushed down a bit thanks for your info mate
