VW is the only car that can go across 1,000,000 km only with change of filters and oil on 10,000 km and big service on 100000 km... I'm going to buy Mercedes GLK next year, but I will never sell my Golf Mk 4... Golf was, is and will be legend of car industry FOREVER!
VW and Audi is the most reliable manufacturers all over the world. Powerful engines, fuel economy, space and the cars is well-build. My family is changing VW and Audi since the VW K70 L. I don't know about the N. America and Brazil, but in Europe is the best cars.
As someone who used to own a Golf VI and now owns a Mk VI GTI, there is a definite difference in performance that you get for your 5000 upgrade. Well worth it IMO.
I have a MkV GTI here in the USA - absolutely no issues in 60k miles. Haven't had any other issues with my previous VWs either, though I will say that when VW got very popular here from about 1998 to 2001, their quality suffered. The newer Jettas and Rabbits are much better built though, and Consumer Reports would say so, as well.
The other announcer was right in saying that the"normal" Golf is boring. The GTI won't as such, have a mechanical diff; power transference between the front wheels will be computer controlled.
I like the Golf, even though I don't have it. Next year i will get one. But i love this car by just looking at it and thinking that in the past, my dad had a VW Beetle(the old model, from '60-'70) and it was such a great car.
When my friend bought a VW, i saw many negative "sensational" comments, similar comments appeared when I bought a Lexus. So I told my friend how about we charge $10 per hr, let those people curse, or say "F" words in front of our cars but without doing any damage or spray on our cars.
People who say "golf is shit" or "golf is boring" clearly have so little knowledge of cars that they are not worth responding to. The fact is 90% of cars that the majority of people can afford are not exciting. If a golf is boring, is the focus exciting? The Golf is has an almost intangible air of quality and is streaks ahead of the competition.
It will work I suppose. They've created new technology - revo knuckle suspension, special differential, and they want to show it. Perhaps the best handling frong wheel drive car so far. But surely, awd with bias to rear wheels will be more fun and better on a wet track, gravel and snow.
Golf is a great engineered car with great built quality and lots of power...Recently had in my hands the Golf V edition 30 it was awesome but didn't had the FEELING nore the steering of a quick car!everything run so soft and smooth that my mom could ride it and go to the market! VW makes great cars ,great engines, great quality, but where's the soul mate??Golf GTi should be a war machine but VW made it a quick everyday car!
I love VW, but the problem here in my country is the Dealer, they never have parts for the service and we have to wait for weeks until the part is available, that sucks, I think VW HQ should do something because it is affecting the brand negatively. Same happened with Subaru here, but Subaru people came here, because the Subaru Dealer here sucked as hell! They canceled the dealer license and opened another Subaru Dealer that is really good. VW should do the same.
Here's where you get it wrong :) The GTI should be a hot hatch in an every day car. The "war machine" you are talking about will be the R version (265bhp). Still, is a easy car to drive but it can be very fun if you ask for this all you have to do is ask and the will do it. It's not necesary to have 1 milion bhp to have fun with a car.:)
@TheRagePassion Not my point. My point is, top gear is a better show in everyway, better hosts, better filming, WAY funnier and overall more enjoying to watch.
I never tried the GTI but I think the handling and cornering is better than normal Golf 6 because it's more sporting! I have a Golf 6 highline and it's perfect...so you can imagine the GTI.. :-D
VW are very very reliable in europe. I think the problem with N. America is fuel. Because people often have problems with other cars too, like BMW, Audis and all other brands that are perfectly reliable in europe.
Golf 2.5 is a much better buy for the money. I test drove the GTI and it's only a little faster, a little lower, and handles slightly better than my 2.5 with 17" wheels and low profile tires (an $1100 upgrade). If you look at a base GTI at invoice versus a base Golf at invoice the price difference is around $5000. GTI needs to either lower the price, add more standard features, or make it faster in order to justify me buying it over a base Golf.
the engine on the 2009-present Volkswagen Golf Engine 1.2 I4 8v TSI (turbocharged) 1.4 L I4 16v 1.4 L I4 16v TSI (turbocharged and supercharged) 1.6 L I4 8v 1.6 L I4 16v TDI 2.0 L I4 16v TDI 2.0 L I4 16v TSI turbocharged 2.5 L I5
its not like they skimped out on quality with the new one, they were just built inefficently and needed to cut costs by making essentally the exact same car in a cheaper way
in the 80s if someone would ask me for a golf class car surely i would choose the golf.now with the mk6 i think that with the back of a touareg and front similar to a scciroco the designer hasnt worked that much,i even expected a more internal space, and a lower diesel engine, anyway the golf still rules to his class
I kinda abused for the economy :P The golf is a bigger body, it must be less economic but the 2.0 tdi gets crazy mileage 4.6l per 100 km I think. up to 140 HP
I am agree with Octavideoz....if you don't try a Golf you'll never understand....i have a golf 6 and every day i like it more than the day before.... :-D
@InspiredBloodMage That is true, it really depends on how informative you want the show to be, i still prefer Top Gear though since they do so much crazy stuff and generally has more humor. so we agree to disagree.
pshtt i had a civic and loved it then it got stolen which is a reason why i didnt want another one so i stepped up my game nd went germen. and let me tell you best choice ever. i dont think ill ever go back to anything but german
@BladeDayBreak better tell Euro NCAP to rethink their scoring, because this 'tin can' got 5 stars. Also Golfs are one of the easiest cars to drive and are very forgiving at low revs.
@josur that's the true... they made it to work untill grandchildren of your daughter's son die... just look at those vw beetles from 60's - they still go like new....
whoever says golfs are boring, it because they never been inside a golf... the interiors are so well made you need to careful not jizzing in your pants
@derbigpr500 No I havent, but I agree they certainly look cool. Time will tell if they really are good - the history of french cars is not on your side though! But why has it taken so long for french manufacturers to be on par with VW? And why is it acceptable that it has taken this long? I used to own a golf mk5, and now a peugeot 307 hdi (recession car) - it has a great engine but a terrible, cheap, rattly cabin.
The 2010 is better because its "CHEAPER to build"?!?!? OK - thats just nuts. Do what I did and RUN to your nearest USA VW store and buy a leftover 2009 Rabbit. Maybe you don't need to care what a car is made of when you are testing it for a week; but if you are going to keep it for longer than that, you need to think about it. Clever engineering alone will never replace quality components and craftsmanship. I'll take my MKV slow and expensive to build Rabbit, thank you.
my ma had a 2007 honda accord and then bought a brand new audi a6 and she said worst thing she ever done.. i was more than happy 2 say TOLD YAH SO.. shud have stayed wif the hondas.. ive a dc5 integra type r and eats most germans cars.. i wudnt be stupid enough 2 let mey car go walkeys .. its easy 2 stay clear from that side of things..
Actually is a matter of taste, whether you like it or not.I own a golf 6 since the begining of the May and man trust me you can't compare it with the leon.Leon it's poor built, the plastic inside makes you feel like you are a cheap car and trust me,leon is anything but not cheap. After a while you can hear all sort of noise from the dashboard.Any of the bad things from leon you won't find on the golf.I'm not saying that it's a perfect car but for sure it's much better than the Leon.:)
