A modern version of this with dlc would be amazing. "Sega Fighters Megamix" Virtua on robots, yakuza characters, more sonic characters, Virtua fighter 5 characters, fv 2 characters, all the Virtua cop ones, space channel 5, streets of rage, golden axe, my god, so many Sega franchises lend themselves to it.
Sega has so much potential in all of their properties... but I feel they've been asleep for the past 2 decades. Idk what happened but with the demise of Saturn the company is like 1/10th of what it used to be in terms of creative incentive.
They should pull a PlayStation Classic in reverse: whereas Sony crippled their own games using the PAL versions, Sega should include the Model 2 version of a game when there's a Model 2 version of it. (ex: Virtua Fighter 2, Daytona USA, etc.) Make modern gamers wonder why the hell people thought the PlayStation was more powerful.
Damn, only now I realized that Bahn from Fighting Vipers is inspired by Jotaro Kujo from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Stardust Crusader Arc. That hat merging with the hair and the stoic attitude is not a coincidence.
I was patiently waiting for the "Daytona Fighter" to show up! LoL Cracks me up every single time. Kumachan too! xD I played this game a lot in my teenage years on my good old saturn. Thank you so much for bringing those awesome memories back, Sega Lord X. Have a great week and be safe, man!
Oh I know I needed this game back in the day. Me and my friends played the crap out of Fighters Megamix! We were like the only people in our neighborhood to be proud owners of the Saturn. It was this game and Guardian Heroes we played the most!
I wish they made a Fighters Megamix 2. Virtua Fighter, Fighting Vipers and Dead or Alive, Streets of Rage, Sonic the Fighters, Rentahero and Vanquish. That would be awesome.
Indeed and while this game and others of its kind were innovative for their time they never received the public recognition they deserved and just died out..
@@nascarbryant ...I do not disagree with this. Because they generally have a punch, kick, and guard button layout. Sonic TF as well. Fighters Megamix had the awesome feature to switch between engines. I don't think that was covered in the video, I may have missed it.
I really want to play this game but SEGA hasn't even rereleased this yet for some reason. And I also don't know why SEGA never made a sequel to this. It definitely has potential to become one of the biggest crossover series in video games.
I remember being happy when I heard Fighting Vipers 2 was coming out on Dreamcast... Because I felt this meant we weren't too far away from Fighters Megamix 2 on Dreamcast... Perhaps we would have gotten such a game if the Dreamcast hadn't died... The original came out when I was 18 or so... Oh man... the hours of fun I had with this game. I was a Virtua Fighter player, but I chose the Fighting Vipers mode because I could slam people through the fences on a finishing move... And then I found out it, if you were cable to launch your opponent just right with a finishing blow, you could get them to land on their back right on the fence and you'd hear a little crunching noise as they stayed there... From then on, I constantly tried to do this... And it was very difficult to pull off(at least for me), but I was so entertained by this that I wouldn't give up.
Fighters Megamix is a must have for the Saturn and it has a lot of content. I still remember being really surprised when i got to fight Hornet from Daytona and Janet from Virtua Cop 2.
Fighters Megamix has the most replay value I have ever seen for a fighting game that isn't online. I still play it today. How many of you took the time to master my favorite of the unlockable characters: Hornet (The Daytona USA Racing Car), Rent-A-Hero and Janet (Virtua Cop 2). Also, the intro was glorious!!!!
the US conversions of Saturn 3d fighting games often missed something from the Japanese ones IRC. Fighting vipers was missing pepsi man and Honey's risque ending.
nimaiiikun that’s funny I was just thinking about how Dural looked like Pepsi man and I laughed a bit to myself after remembering the AVGN episode he was in
Didn't know about a removed ending, have to check it out whenever I have an ODE for my Saturn. But it's true, but I think in most cases it's a licensing issue. In Virtua Fighter kids the loading screen between fights have a Japanese soda featured, it was even in the name of the game over there. Java Tea.
I have this for my saturn and being in the UK and pal region you immediately think that it would be slower. But sega did something very good with a lot of their games by optimising them so no speed was lost. Which is why if you try to play a Pal game on US/JPN saturn with just a action replay cart you might get a blurring effect!
Fighters Megamix was my absolute jam back in the day. Amazing kinematic gameplay, and a ton of fighters to choose from. We need a modern fighting game Megamix that brings characters from all the arcade fighting games together.
Great video! I remember reading an interview a while ago that you did with Retro Gamer for their Fighters Megamix feature. It's cool to see you review this game in more detail.
Loved this Game ! It was my VF3 trainer, has all of Aikira, Wolf And Aio( Jane) and Kage’s new VF3 moves. I could spend hours practicing Akira’s dragon lance and Kage air toss juggling combos, then head to the arcade for head to head battles! I just wished there was a scaled down version with less characters and no slow down .Still one of my console favorites. I can easily watch VF2 fights on RU-vid for long periods of time that and sega rally captivate me .
Dude I frickin love your channel and content so much I never even owned a sega system myself growing up until DC (born in’82) but my best friend had genesis/cd/32x/Saturn on launch day and I have so many memories with all these games.. I got a Dreamcast in Dec’99 and was addicted to jet grind radio/shenmue/nba 2K/2K1
I have fond memories being 4-5 playing this game with my uncle on his Saturn while he was in high school haha. I especially remember fighting against Jeffry in that tropical stage thinking that those graphics were out of this world at the time.
Your absolute love for the Sega Saturn makes me regret not begging my mom for it harder when i was growing up. i missed out on such cool games in an era where literally all i was going was digesting anything and all things video games.
I never had a Saturn but I always wanted one the Sega Saturn was essentially the Laserdisc of the fifth generation but I kept up with all the Saturn information I could get so I'd always known about it and saw the US market ignore it this is the sort of retrospective Fighters Megamix needed
Fighters Megamix is and always be my favorite fighting game of all time. I'm not even a huge fighting game fan but I made sure to unlock EVERYTHING in this game when I got it.
Good timing. I just started playing this again yesterday, first time since middle school. It's just as fun as I thought it was. Unlocked all the special characters. The fighting system in this game feels like a 1-on-1 beat-em-up. It's a blast.
This was my favourite fighting game on Saturn. I was a fan of both franchises and and seeing them both together with a bunch of bonus content was awesome. In our late teens my friends and I would play this for 100s of hours (It got nearly as much game time as goldeneye). It also had tons of moves from virtua fighter 3 in there as well as Janet from virtua cop being a reskin of Aoi from VF3. A VF6 OR FV3 could start us off.
I put together a kick ass montage video of this back in the day when the store I worked at called EBX in my local mall had display screens out front. They ran the video all day, many folks wanted the game, but they all had playstation and they were like, "why can't I get this on PS." I gotta see if I can dig up the video. It's on VHS tape. But I showcased a lot of great moves.
Megamix seriously rocked the house, it was awesome to have so many fighters and options and everything in one game! However, I must say I always preferred the VF2 character models to the Vipers polygons they seemed to use in Megamix... Still, when I want to introduce someone to the Saturn, I pull out two controllers and Megamix for the nice graphics and framerate, the music, the million options and pick-up-and-playability and make them laugh at the wacky special characters and stuff :) *Akira's theme!!*
Friggin’ LOVED this game back in the day. As much as it was to blend the two games, me and my buddies loved nothing more than to have the Daytona car face off against the little jalapeño pepper looking character. It was the batshit crazy stuff that made the game notable for us.
@@Gamma00Ray you're right! I remember seeing VF3 at a movie theater (remember those?) before FMM came out. Thanks for clearing that up. God bless and Jesus loves you bro.
This is such a great game. I bought a sealed copy of it in the early 2000s for around $7. Bought a few other sealed games including Virtua Fighter Kids. Had I an income and hadn't been a teenager, I would have bought two of each.
This was my first introduction to fighting games as Saturn is my first console. love this game, and the original Saturn version use to tank the fps when breaking the stage barrier
Still working my way chronologically through your entire back catalogue of episodes and liking every video to show my support for all the effort you put in. Only fifty left to go, LOL..!!
I love Fighters Megamix but the only reason I kept playing it many times over until VF3 on the Dreamcast came along. This is because I used megamix as a stopgap and training ground for VF3. In fact, I use to go back and forth between Megamix and Virtua Fighter 2, which helped considerably. What's funny is when you finally figure out how to play Virtua Fighter 3, it completely changed your gameplay style on VF2 as it made you realise how insanely deep VF2 really is. Just in case - this is not to say I cannot play Fighting Vipers. In fact, I can rock Fighting Vipers and enjoyed playing it, but compared to Last Bronx and VF, I couldn't see myself playing it repetitively like those other games.
I fondly remember this game and remember when it was talked about in gaming magazines. I had be every Virtura Fighter game and Fighting Vipers at the time. I was afraid that Fighters MegaMix would not make it to America so I ordered it from Japan for $200. I was playing it for over a year before it finally came to America. I still own the Japanese import to this day.
Never thought about how much I needed this game, especially since it has the training mode that shows you which buttons you press! I hate being clueless in fighting games, which is in every game but Smash Bros.
Hi from France ! I've been watching your videos since a while and you're always doing a great job. It's really good and specially these days, we need good stuff like your videos to put us in a better mood. Keep up the great job and thanks for your work
A way overlooked and underrated ATG fighting game. I played the hell out of this back in the day. Thank you so much for covering this gem so that others discover it. Prime example of when Sega gets it right, they REALLY get it right
Awesome! FMM deserves all the attention and applause it can get. I still dig it out and play it to this day, to me it is a 10/10 game and effort on the Saturn. An updated version of FMM on PS4 etc would be so fun and fresh. For your next in this one-game-opinion series, I would suggest Panzer Dragoon / PD Zwei, Sega Rally Championship, or even the pros and cons of all the Sega coin op racer ports.
Bout time, what a game! Love me some Virtua Fighter 2 and it's got the resolution, but is missing all that makes Fighters Megamix special; What's that? It's unbelievable visuals and content, of course! To this day, it must've been the most fun I've ever had with a fighter... Unlocking all these funky characters, learning all the craziest moves and exploring an all the new mash up of distinct mechanics... What more could you ask for? ...and don't even get me started on that sexy shading, colourful lighting and dynamic shadows; This thing had so much life in it...
One of my favourite 3D fighting games and arguably the best on Saturn just because of all the content it contains. I still play this regularly and it still looks great with all the lighting effects and the plane taking off which was missing in Fighting Vipers. Perhaps its greatest strength was not having an arcade version, as Sega didn't seem to understand the difference between the home and arcade market's most of the time with very little content added. Yet this is full to the brim with fighters and stages plus great cameos from many others such as Janet from Virtua Cop or fighting the Daytona Car. My only complaint is why is there no Sonic in this? Overall this was Sega at their best and a glimpse at what could have been and it would be years before Sonic and Sega All Star Racing Transformed proved once again how great these Sega crossovers can be
I knew about the VF Kids and oddly the Daytona car, but I had no idea that Bean, Bark and Rent-A-Hero were in the game. This has just leapt up near the top of my Saturn list
Characters from Streets of Rage, Altered Beast, Ryo Hazuki from Shenmue, Sketch Turner from Comix Zone, Shadow Yamoto from Eternal Champions, and, of course, the rest of the characters that were in Sonic the Fighters.
Just found this channel. This was actually the first video I watched today. I grew up with Sega. I was trying to find that one game where you can play as a race car in a fighting game. I went ahead and subscribed, keep it up!🤩
Very well done! This was one of my favorite games on my orginal Saturn. It is also one of the games I missed the most after letting my Saturn go to "upgrade" to a more powerful system. Boy was that a mistake :( Now I try to hold onto all my games systems because there comes game experiences like this that are locked to a particular system and you can't find anywhere else. Thank you for sharing!
I honestly don’t know why Sega doesn’t just make Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter part of the same universe like Capcom has done with Street Fighter, Final Fight, Rival Schools, and Slam Master’s.
Great job on Fighters Megamix!!! The Saturn was my favorite sega system! And I couldn't care less what others think about that! I purchased my Sega Saturn in new New Jersey while I was in the U.S. NAVY... My love for it goes deep... Fighters Megamix was my go to game when I was able to get my little brother and cousins into something other than trouble... I salute you for giving homage to a truly amazing masterpiece... I love it!!!😎
Imagine if we could play this game on Fightcade 2... There's PS1 support coming so we can hope that the good ol' Saturn gets to shine with Rollback netcode. We already have Naomi and Dreamcast support!
Hey! Big fan of your work, I love video games and Sega certainly had several gems on their platforms. On that note, are there any notable Sega/Mega CD sports games? Maybe enough to do a video about? I'm pretty sure NBA Jam, NHL 94, Sensible Soccer all fit on the list, but I don't hear much discussion about these games. I mean, try finding a video on RU-vid about Bouncers (if that counts.) I know you just did a video on the Sega CD, but I wanted to ask in advance. Keep on making the best Sega content on RU-vid!
Fighters Megamix doesn't get brought up often enough. When Sega re-released Sonic Fighters & Fighting Vipers I was hoping Fighter's Megamix would have been next. It's a gem that deserves Sega's attention for a remaster, remake, or sequel. Seeing the Daytona car in action again makes my inner-child squeal.
Another awesome video as usual..thanks for pointing this game out although i never had a saturn i fondly remember the video game magazines of the era (probably spring of '96-'97 or something) praising Fighters megamix ..even the name sounds cool when you say it! haha even to this day the game looks awesome and smth i would spend some time with (never too late to get a saturn eh?). One of the things our generation enjoyed was seeing these kind of games for the 1st time with nothing prior to them able to compare and we felt the excitement of video game evolution (2d to 3d, fmv's, etc.) and this is smth that goes beyond generations of consoles its how the game is presented and perceived by the player that creates true excitement. Smth equal to this for ppl today would be getting yourself in the game but i feel we have some time ahead of us until this is fully done...we were lucky!
Dude I Love this game. And its a concept, even today, I think sega should consider to retake Imagine a Fighters Megamix 2 with caracteres from All Virtua Fighters Series, All Fighting Vipers and also Last Bronx, Sonic The Fighters and whatever sega releasead as a Fighting arcade at time Nowdays, with 100 Gb blu-rays you can load The shit out of content without problems. Imagine in The unlockable (or dlc) characters People from Sreeets Of Rage, Shinobi, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Phantasy Star and other "Non Fighting" sega games. This could easily become sort of the Sega's Super Smash Bros. The company have no idea how valuable their IPs are.
X i really envy you, when i owned a sega saturn i played fighters megamix to death. Im kicking myself for getting rid of my saturn when i was younger, i didnt realize what a treasure it would be someday. You are so right about emulation to, after seeing this, im going to buy a sega saturn and start collecting for it again. And this time, i will not part ways with it. first game im getting back is fighters megamix, can't wait. Probably going to have to do a modded system that does reproductions, the sega saturn game prices are ridiculous
I think i unlocked pretty much every secret and character in this game which included playing as a Palm Tree and a joint of meat. There was also a card match game to unlock hidden artwork of Janet.
8:38 Hornet is one of those secret fighters that plays like Bahn. The trick is that he has to rip off the hood so that only the engine is exposed. There is a downside, though: no armor.
