Filipe Toledo has been consistent this season having worn the Yellow Leaders jersey the last 3 contests. Currently leading the world rankings, Toledo is very close to clinching his WSL Final 5 spot. Watch all his excellent waves and see how he has put together a solid season so far.

He is a great surfer...I think the he's the most consistent and fasted and most exciting in the world! The judges seem to be biased at times against the Brazilian surfers maybe because they are just so much more exciting than the rest of the field.

I'm from California but I know for a fact Toledo won that contest, His airs were so crucial and so risky where the san Clemente boy dragged his ass on all his airs. The surf industry on this contest just didn't want Toledo to win. Congratulations to the san Clemente kid but he didn't deserve it. BS. It's time to start reviewing these contests like they do in sports

How much has Toledo improved! Now many of his higher scores are rail maneuvers! He'll probably be world champ this year (if they don't rob him again :-) )

Power, control, patience, connection with the ocean, search for beauty, passion and energy. Filipe Toledo is pure surfing. Many of the rest should know this regardless of being equally scored…Watch and learn gentlemen.

People also forget that Toledo has the tendency to combo people early, then when his opponents come back under pressure is also a reason to maybe give higher scores to his opponents

The judging criteria must be objective (the opposite of subjective, that has been used). The judges must thake in consideration only what has been done on the wave, doesn't matter who has done. Nobody on tour can do what Toledo does on a medium right hander, but the judges take in considaration "what toledo is capable to do on a wave" so, they believe they cannot give excelent scores because they believe he can do even better on that wave. Not considering what he did, but what he is capable to do, what is unfair, considering that the other surfers can't do the same moves. He's judged by what he CAN do and not by what he has done. That's the concept of SUBJECTIVE criteria.

totally agree. the fact that he is so good is actually a disadvantage. he is being judged against himself rather than the other surfer in his heat.

The WSL judges are doing everything not to let Filipe Toledo win the world championship. They stole from him the win from both previous events and handed the win unfairly to less deserving people. Totally unfair. I am NOT Brazilian and I don't care who wins or loses. I just want to see FAIR judging. I dislike crooks and corruption.

Griff is absolutely beautiful to watch but you simply CAN'T overscore one rider and underscore the other... Filipe got a 9.57, Griff should have gotten an 8.5 to keep a big enough gap, no way that was a 9. Beautiful surfing, don't get me wrong. But you can't say you want to push progression and then handout 9s for fundamental surfing 🤷‍♂️ And despite all that, Filipe is still currently #1... Also, it's kinda hypocritical on your side to be praising him for promo whilst sabotaging him every chance you get... I've been there. Getting bullied by judges is not fun.

We all know its both toledo and medina the best surfers right now. But WSL has become politics looking for their next golden boy in Robinson since JJF probably won’t be back to his ultimate form due to injuries.

John John surfs like a demon which has broken him down. If he took a year to just rehab and get healthy he could be back to challenge for the title. But for sure Toledo and Medina are the top of the heap right now.

@@claytonnicolas5803 I think he meant nationalism. Aussies, Hawaiians, Mainlanders, and South Africans make up most of the surf industry. Hence a perceived bias against Brazilians and other competitors from less “influential” countries.

Hawaiians hated the Australian style when they first popped up and started dominating. Then the Aussies hated the Americans who adapted the two. Now they all hate the Brazilians for their unique style. It’s a phase and it’ll pass. I’m an American and I love the Brazilian style. It’s like an aggressive skate style mixed with Australian power surfing. Very fun to watch.

The WSL should boycott the Brazil event. The place is a dump and the competitors have literally witnessed enough violence there with the robberies and shootings. Why jeopardize the safety of the athletes especially after the death threats that Colopinto has been receiving? #boycottBrazil

I don't follow surfing competitions for too long (since 2017 maybe) but holy Jesus, for how long the WSL will continue to nerf brazilians wins? It's getting ugly. Surf itself already has an aura of amateurism, but with judging like this the sport will be forever stained. Just sad.
