FILIPINO BAMBOO COOKING IN CATEEL DAVAO ORIENTAL! What a treat this was!
April 20th, happens to be the birthday of Mama Rose's son Mike, and April 22nd happens to be my birthday. So, we combined forces and had a unique Filipino food dinner. Cooking in bamboo is something that can be found around different areas of the Philippines... but, I had never experienced it in Cateel. And, I have never tried "Hipon" before. No, that isn't shrimp... "Hipon" is the term for little fish that come down the river here in Cateel during rainy season. Mama Rose had some specially harvested, and then created a unique recipe inside bamboo!
In this video, we learn a little about bamboo cooking, and have fun as a family here along the coast of Mindanao!

Mama Rose is glowing - whatever your doing - keep doing. You're looking prettier and prettier every time I see you on video. I am about to say something "negative" comments about the baby fish prepared for the birthday bash but held my tongue. Saying what's on my mind might alienate the celebrants. Food are all appetizing - making me hungry watching the show. Using bamboo as cooking vessel reminds me of yesteryears. I like food cooked in bamboo, it's has a distinctive smell and taste to it. Hi Kulas. I'm Filipino living in Pickering, Ontario and Canada has been my home for the past 33 years. Love watching you eating a variety of Filipino food. One of my best memories was my auntie and inay (grandma) make nilupak. They boil green saba bananas then pound them with sangkaka (molasses moulded into a cake in coconut shells). Yum!! Other favorites are laing and Tinuktok.(all Iriga, Bicol recipes). What I love most about your vlogs is that you go to places that are out of the beaten path, showcasing the beauty of the Philippines and your interacting with ordinary Flipinos, their hospitality and their zest for life. I spent the first seven years of my life in my itay and inay's small farm. At that time, there was no electricity, we got our water from the poso, and bathe in the river and I tell you, those years were the best and happiest childhood memories of my life. Wish you all the best.
