I am convinced Disney is incapable of separating good and bad faith criticism. They so consistently blame bad faith criticism for their shortcomings i am convinced they are *relying* on it.

I'm not sure if pointing out that fans ask questions like "How is this guy here when he hasn't been born yet?" is "lore obsessed". I feel like that's just people paying attention to the storyline and the writers aren't.

Wanna fix Star Wars? Hire good writers

This might seem a bit unorthodox but from what i see, what made pre-disney star was as successful as it was, is that it actually WENT TF AWAY for a bit between trilogies, giving fans some time to breathe and writers a longer period to fine-tune their concepts, disney is making too much too fast and it is bloody SHOWING

I’ve noticed that Disney in general has been struggling with movies recently. Just looking at movies like Wish, Ant Man: Quantumania, and the live-action Little Mermaid, Disney has been struggling to reach that level of success with fans that they did for decades. I think that the problem is that Disney is only doing what they believe will make them more money rather than what is actually best to create. For example with Star Wars, there are TONS of Star Wars fans out there-myself included-so Disney probably saw that and decided that a good way to make more money would be to just make more Star Wars without having-like Lee says-a clear plan. I hope Disney can start listening to the fans again and stop just making sequels and remakes and go back to making movies that are (mostly) original stories like they were able to do with the Disney Princesses. There are *PLENTY* of Fairytales that exist that Disney could probably make a pretty good movie about but they first need to realize that sequels, prequels, and remakes are not doing the best right now. But that’s just my opinion!

There’s a solution that no one wants to really admit, not fans, not Lucasfilm, not Disney. Star Wars needs to go away. There needs to be nothing from the property, or next to nothing. Maybe just some video game remasters and Clone Wars: Special Editions. But ideally nothing. For years. Internally Lucasfilm would be building a new team up, putting in the work to create a strong plan, before they come back with a big event movie…. Star Wars: The Foundation of Everything that Comes Next (working title]. Ideally it would move say 100+ years into the future, beyond what happened in the sequel trilogy. Everyone is gone, it’s a true fresh start. And we’re all excited again. It yeah, they won’t do that because money.

At this point, I cannot be convinced that Disney is not actively trying to tank their IPs.

Their biggest problem is writing. Each show seems to be a matter of having a few 'cool' or 'iconic' moments with no care put into getting between them. Provide a good story and people will come.

You should have gone with the instinct not to include mention of Ki-Adi-Mundi. There's more than a little irony in calling his inclusion in The Acolyte an unforced error right before making your own unforced error.

As one of those lore obsessed star wars fans I want to speak on the Ki Adi Mundi Problem, but just briefly: The main issue is not really that he is alive during the time of the Acolyte. Yes, it contradicts with the previous canon established in the old EU, but in the new canon his age or year of birth were never specified. Therefore it can be possible for him to be there, even though it does leave a slightly bitter taste in my mouth. The real issue with Mundi's presence in the series is that his role in the cover up of the show's events calls into question his behavior in the Phantom Menace. In Episode 1 he is the one talking about how "the Sith have been extinct for a millennia". It sets the entire plot of the prequals into perspective and is a vital part of the narrative in Episode 1. The Sith, or similar dark side users, not being around for that long is part of the reason the Jedi don't believe Qui-Gon when he reports to the council about his duel with Maul. Due to this Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan have to face Maul alone without any backup at the end of the movie, leading to Qui-Gon's tragic death. But now in the Acolyte, not only has a Sith/Darkside User revealed himself, no, multiple Jedi have died quite evidently at the hands of another force user. That alone should be cause for an outrage or outcry because during this time the Jedi were at their strongest, with basically no enemy or rival. One dead Jedi, let alone a whole platoon of them, should cause an investigation and be something the entire order is aware of. But somehow this gets completely swept under the rug and Ki Adi Mundi does not speak up about this during Episode 1? I am fine with some small inconsistencies. I am fine with some obscure lore not being kept in mind, or outdated lore being updated (like Mundi's age). But decisions which put the entire established canon into question like Osha and Mae being deliberate, immaculate conceptions has, to me at least, less to do with disorganization and more to do with people who either don't know star wars lore or with producers who simply do not care. The problem is much deeper than that. Disorganization is just the tip of the iceberg. In order to fix Star Wars, they need to put people in charge that actually care about Star Wars, not just their own agenda. Of course they need to know the lore too.

16:14 - One of the major issue around this discussion is how many people are lumped into the group of people who are acting on bad faith when they dive into all the technical issues with it. Too often the PR team is screaming review bombing from trolls and bigots when most the reviews are from people who are being vocal about the many legitimate issues surrounding this new franchise. When people blindly accept that position instead of looking at the content of the critique it kills discussion and we just get more of the confused mess we've gotten as of late.

Another point that could be made is Disney doesn’t (and frankly can’t) care as much as George Lucas did. It was all his creation. It’s much harder (but still possible) to care about a project that you didn’t create

I honestly feel like the people who are making the new star wars content are people who dont exactly hate star wars, but would jump at the chance to make their own thing, but thats more likely to fail than a recognisable brand, so they stick with star wars and make it their own things......

Ki Adi not being alive during the High Republic isn't even the dumbest thing about his inclusion. It's the fact that in the prequels he doubts the return of the Sith even though he's present in the scene during the Acolyte where they're discussing the emergence of a Sith character

As someone who grew up loving the franchise, and treats it as a legacy for a lost loved one I can strongly agree that the franchise needs to take a deep breath and go back to the original basics

13:10 that’s… not really the issue people were having with that. No one was really upset with changing a characters birthday. That’s not really a big deal. What is a big deal is changing THIS CHARACTER specifically. Ki Adi Mundi is the character who said “the Sith have been extinct for a millennium.” In the phantom menace. And yet despite this, he’s around in the Acolyte, where all sorts of Sith shenanigans are happening. So why would he say that in the phantom menace if he was around in the Acolyte?

The Star Wars Universe is a MASSIVE saga spanning thousands of years into the past with the Old Republic, and back when Legends was a thing, even expanded centuries into the future with the Legacy era, with creative teams writing novels and comic books, and making games in ALL those periods concurrently. And now suddenly it's a problem when Disney does it? We had no trouble keeping up with Star Wars Lore across multiple eras BEFORE, why is this a problem NOW?

Even if LunarX got acquired by Disney, they *still* wouldn’t listen to you. They’re *far beyond* reproach at this point. Our only hope at this point is that Disney gets financially desperate enough to sell off these cherished properties to someone who will do them justice.

First Time? Star Wars was never linear. Look at how the EU told it's stories through games, books, and comics. All across the timeline. But it's clear that right now, they want to establish how Palpatine's returned. His weavings explained throughout the 3 trilogies.

The problem with the lore isn't just small inconsistencies where Disney can't keep up with what the fans want. The problem is that these "small inconsistencies" add up to a huge one, resulting in complete destruction of an IP

Between the novels, cartoon shows, comic books and video games they would jump around to just after the credits rolled on EP 6 to 4,000 years before EP 4 to in-between any given movie pair to a hundred years after everything then back to just after EP 6 again. All of this before Disney ever touched the franchise. Even if it is a problem (that I'm still not seeing, Star Wars trained me well there) you can't blame Disney for it. Man, it is crazy how the video literally says that Ki Adi’s appearance “doesn’t matter all that much” but then repeatedly keeps showing him as an example over and over again. Like, I get it’s the most recent example of “lore breaking” but there are certainly better ones that could have been the editing through line for the rest of that segment.

Everything you stated in this video i agree with. The only thing you forgot to include was esg scores. Seemingly those scores still affect almost everything they touch.

Star Wars can’t be killed by Disney. Disney can only hurt themselves and their version of Star Wars while Lucas Star Wars and the Legends continuity will always be special to me and many other fans. Plus we still have Andor season 2 to look forward to.

I would say having consistent lore and GOOD story is the most important, which most of disney era SW lacks.

The people who are "more concerned about the appearance of the people on screen" are frustrated because Disney is sacraficing good story. The frustration is that many companies prioritize diversity so much that the story falls completely off the priority list. Thats why there are so many cuts and reshoots and directors leaving projects halfway through films. Theres all these boards that have to approve correct forms of representation and by the time you check off all the bockes theres no space left for a well rounded story that fits within the pre-existing universe

I agree with all the points made. More so, what I've been most disappointed about is the snobbery and disrespect Disney showed their fanbase by disowning the star wars expanded universe which is rich and had more than enough ample room to build lots of other content off of. It's this same snobbery that Netflix displayed with the Witcher series. Eventually, Hollywood will learn that it needs to keep to the lore that built the fanbase if it wants to market successfully to the fanbase.
