My wtf moment was Aerith mom’s death. I cried like a baby and like full on ugly cry. I’ve cried playing games before but never like that. My wife went and got me tissues because I was overwhelmed. Had to take a break before I could continue playing. I couldn’t imagine watching that scene if I had a dead parent. The music was so good too. Most powerful scene IMO and the devs knocked it out the park with that one. Happy it gave us more context for what happened whereas in the OG we didn’t get much info about her mom.
Anything regarding Aerith straight up breaks me emotionally ... im too attached to her she's soo empathetic i just couldn't help myself but to hope in copium but we all know how that ended ...
I played the game for 150 hours, that includes going back to see the "dates" with all the different characters. Somehow I missed seeing the Bald Bar in my playthrough though.
Personally I'd have gone with Gears & Gambits over Fort Condor. Fort Condor was at least in the original game (and the dlc for Remake). Gears & Gambits was completely tacked on and somehow managed to be aggravating and boring at the same time (though this could describe a majority of Rebirth's overloaded minigames).
While i played with the japanese dub,i agree with the new voice being a a turn off, not because the VA's performance is bad, but because at that point, it breaks the notion I had of the character. There should be an option to toggle between his voices, at least in battles.
She is dead but not at the same time a part of the life stream and cloud has a damaged mind so hes suffering from multiple mental health issues its actually really sad if you pay attention
Square Enix’s storytelling has become stupid. More interested in emotionally manipulating the audience than telling anything cohesive. OG game is infinitely better than whatever this.
@@SomewhatSlightlyBored same! At the beginning I was like “oh it’s Chadley!” and by the end of chapter 1 I had had enough. And it’s funny how he digs at Mai for talking too much
I was more than a little unhappy with the ending of Rebirth. I was never in team "save Aerith", since her death was such a big motivator for Cloud. The fate of a planet is such a massive scale, that is hard for a person to fully feel the weight of it. However, losing someone you love is so personal, so unbelievably painful that it properly sinks in what is at stake. The original handled Aerith's death in such a way that we could feel Cloud's anguish. In Rebirth, not only did they keep going back and forth into that convoluted multiverse stuff, distracting from the tragedy, but they also have a way too long sequence of bosses. Any kind of sadness I felt at the beginning of the fighting quickly went away and I was just mentally exhausted before the conclusion. Now this time, Cloud is not only unemotional, but he seems apathetic, seeing as he can still see and talk to the dead Aerith. How am I supposed to feel the impact of loss, when there is no absence?
@@drewtheunspoken3988 I am Australian so it's something I'm kind of tuned into especially with the shape of the nose which stops you from assuming just a normal bear. to illustrate my point 🐻🐨 tho granted that's just how moogles noses lock Either way
I don't get how everyone is so confused by the ending, like everyone was confused by the ending of remake as well and i'm just like um, were y'all skipping all the cutscenes?
The Weapons are not inspired by Evangelion if you look they are most likely inspired by Gundam specifically a lot of the zeon mobile suits for instance the diamond weapon is most likely based on the qubeley from Zeta
Fort Condor was better in the Yuffie DLC before they added the time limit. The amount of times I had "won" but needed like 5 more seconds to destroy the final enemy target was ridiculous and made me hate the mini-game.
Gotta point out that the script really should specify that the "WTF" moment for Nanaki's voice is the English dub. I have no issues with the voice change when using Japanese audio 🤷🏻♀️
Moogles look ugly af. Like the Sonic the Hedgehog from the first movie trailer lol. Moogles from the other FF installments were always cute so I don't get why they chose this "we have a moogle at home" design.
Interestingly, the developers have said that we were essentially seeing the newly born Weapons. I would expect that they will be fully grown in part 3. The OG VII had you engaging with Chocobo breeding when you only had seven days until the meteor fall. It might be unrealistic but I generally don't expect realism in a game that literally has 'Fantasy' in its title. For me, the biggest WTF was how ubiquitous Chadley was in the game. Who thought that was a good idea?
Well, they had to add another thirsty character for Cloud, with MAI, who was less annoying than Chadley but there were times where I wanted both of them to stfu.
In watching many British RU-vidrs, I've come to realize that they seem to struggle with the "long A" sound, like in "apple". But it does make my eye twitch a bit when the correct pronunciation is given in a piece of media and yet somehow they still pronounce it differently 😅. I can understand saying it differently in the original FF7 since that was text only, but we now have multiple voiced games to draw back on that has the correct pronunciation. There's "old habits die hard" and then there's...wilful disobedience 😂 In an example of change for myself, I sometimes watch a channel called Slope's Game Room (a channel that frequently talks about retro video games) and I've come to shirk my American pronunciation of a console called the ZX Spectrum, I think, and instead of saying "Zee", I now see it as "Zed", because of hearing it that way so many times from a British guy, lol. And that's with me staunchly maintaining that pronouncing "Z" as "zed" is ridiculous and completely ruins the ABC song we're taught as kids. "Zed" just sounds like a sour note in the song...mess up the whole flow 😂.
@@FeeltheByrne07 For me, I think I pronounced it as such at first due to the character Mako Tsunami from Yi-Gi-Oh, lol. His name was pronounced "May-ko" in the English dub. While I've only heard tiny snatches of the anime in Japanese, they likely pronounce his name the same way the element is pronounced in FF7. As I grew older and watched more anime and learned the Japanese phonetics, pronouncing it as "mah-ko" became second nature, because I know the pronunciation of "may-ko" doesn't exist in Japanese.
My take as well, too. Rebirth was just...exhausting. So many times I found myself getting frustrated and saying aloud, "I'm not having fun anymore!" 😅. I'll take the linearity of Remake over everything Rebirth throws at you. I don't completely hate the game, per se...but I didn't love it, either.
Nah not for me. Rebirth was much MUCH better IMO. And I played through and completed Remake again before going straight into Rebirth. Remake was made to give you a taste of things to come. Remake felt…held back…and slightly padded to justify the existence of it as a stand alone game. Although…I did appreciate Remake a lot more the second time around, the world that Rebirth created - all the characters, side quests, unique animations, music and representation of the world I first saw on the first PlayStation was absolutely incredible. Smiled so many times. From chocobo racing to getting the red buggy, I was so so happy with what they did. Yes…it is A LOT…but really it’s as much as you want it to be. You don’t HAVE to do all the side content, but if you really want to get the most out of this world and these characters, it’s there if you want and I loved it. 120 hours in and it has become one of my favourite games of all time. EASILY.
I feel the complete opposite. I liked Remake. But Rebirth is on a whole other level. Waaaaay better! Also, much content in Rebirth is optional. Whlie Remake had so much padding.
I don’t agree with the last sentence. I think it’s just weird enough. Lol and that manager side quest is rough to say the least I did everything super quick except for the battle sequence. I have to go back and try to play it again, but I can only make it to the fourth of the five battles, let alone the 3-D brawler, I have to as they say get good😂😂😂😂
You could honestly just put “the last chapter” as a wtf moment. All this talk about changing the story then they stick almost beat for beat to the original for 99% of the game only to go full kingdom hearts in the last chapter. Such a horrible taste left in the end after an otherwise very good game.
I loved Remake, even with the changes and it really made my 90s kid heart sing to see one of my favourite games how I saw it back as a kid. But Rebirth was just…..meh. It departed so much from the original story and it felt like 5% story, 95% filler content. I didn’t hate it by any means but it was so disappointing. And wtaf was with the moogle redesign??? Was like an albino Fozzy bear on morphine 🤦♂️
I assumed the Aerith death scene was implying that she was fated to die so even though cloud attempted (and succeeded) to block the strike, her fate was unchanged. I suppose the flickering from blood, and no blood might have just been a visual representation of the fact that he DID block it, but she died anyway. Both of those scenarios (blood, and no blood) were illustrating her fate (death)
"KET SHEE!" OMG Thank you for actually pronouncing his name correctly. I can't believe they actually went ahead and said "F all that Gaelic mythology. His name will be pronounced "Kate Sith"
Is there such a thing as "Species Blindness"? ... because whomever wrote the script for this seems to have it. Red is almost painfully obviously LION like (Feline/Cat) in appearance, yet he is repeatedly compared to a DOG here. Then, the Moogles whom are unmistakably Teddy Bear and Koala like in appearance are compared to Cats? ... but Red is a DOG??. I ... I just Can't.
i mean.... Psy couldn't even be bothered to lear how to say Mako,,,, may-co? really? its the first entry and you already show its just alist about a game and clearly franchise you did not even bother to research. losing Jules marked a downfall of whatculturegaming for me.
My thought is that the moogles have teeth as a callback to their origin. When they first came out in their Japanese name is Moguri which is a combination of the words mogura and komori which are the words mole and bat, respectively. So moogle, or moguri, means mole bat. I know it’s a long explanation but I think the teeth are mole teeth, especially if you look at the teeth of a naked mole rat.
All I see is flying koalas lol. I kind of understand where you're coming from with the mogles but until you pointed it out they just looked like koalas to me
I got through the first game. I was devastated back then. The charade is the worst insult to final fantasy franchise and the people in charge said "ok". I'm not sure if I will/can pick up a new ff game. 💔
"Ket-Shee" The ACTUAL way you're supposed to say the name of this well-established creature from Gaelic mythology. The original FF7 even had developer confirmation that they acknowledge the being from Gaelic mythology and how the name is supposed to be pronounced, but the localizers of Rebirth intentionally defied all of that and made the actors say "Kate Sith".
Yet he pants, growls, and wags his tail like a dog 🤷🏻♀️ Red is neither cat nor dog. It's quite clear his species' design takes traits from both animals. So no, he is NOT a cat either.
