Quick guide on what the difference is between Synergy Skills and Synergy Abilities in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.
Synergy Skills can be used any time but Synergy Abilities require you to use a certain number of ATB attacks. Once you have enough on each character, you can use the Synergy Ability.

Apparently I'm not the only one who could figure out how to use the Synergy Abilities lol. Lots of people online are complaining it's bugged but apparently none of us have been doing it right! You're a lifesaver man

There is so much to learn in this game, it's absolutely massive, I just think they missed the boat a bit on some of the tutorials and explanations. Awesome game though!

I think the biggest issue with this was not putting the Synergy icon next to the Ability name, instead putting it in the lower left corner. Most Abilities provide Synergy, but some (like Yuffie's Windstorm) do not

I agree, in fact I think because there is SO MUCH to remember in the combat, the standard synergy skills just don't get used that much, at least by me. I have to really remember to use them.

I didnt even KNOW Hold R1 + touch pad did anything lol. They didnt do a good job explaing all the concepts. Thanks for the info!

So consuming 1 ATB bar increases 1 Synergy bar? (Synergy rectangle) nice video by the way. :)

Thanks for explaining this. This portion of the in-game tutorial was written poorly when referencing the little bars.

Synergy wont work for me, i had the correct amount to be able to use a cloud/aerith one yet is was still greyed out 🤷

That's weird, you're sure you have enough coloured bars? The cost increases as you use it more.

@TheGameFatherUK actually I do still have the problem of synergy not showing when I block, it works from the action menu though. It was just me not realising the proper amount I needed

How do I release synergy skills? I'm still at the beginning of the game and I haven't released any.

You unlock them in the Folio system which is accessed at any book store or at the machines next to the vending machine. You spend your SP in there which you get when you level up. Your party level determines what's available for unlock within the Folio system. This game is huge and there's so much to take in, kinda overwhelming at the start! It all starts to come together though :)

@@TheGameFatherUKhow do you set your synergy skills? I’ve leaned them from the Fiolio menu but it game tells me it’s I have unlearned skills. Can I swap them in on and out? How?

@lobster7799 Once they are unlocked in the Folio system, they are available from the Command Menu (x) and then Synergy Skills (greyed out until you have used enough ATB abilities). The skills shortcuts by default are R1 + Square/Triangle for offensive Skills and R1 + Circle/X for defensive Synergy Skills.

I think I figured it out, one of the party members that I was using is now out and can’t use that ability anymore. Damn this game can be confusing haha

Ahh got ya! Yes, that makes sense :) and I agree, there is SO MUCH to learn and do, especially at the start. But it all comes together. I still suck at Royal Blood though 😭

The reason is to increase complexity and depth? It's a perfect addition without being too cumbersome, it just turns your spent ATB commands into a resource you can then use

@@St4rTr3v1Ut10n Yeah, I see little to no downsides to it. Synergy attacks builds up more atb and dmg than normal attacks and Synergy abilities acts like secondary limit breaks. And they also help building up bonds between Cloud and the party.
