Yeah like holy, I beat Ruby weapon the hard way it looks like. Just constant casts of hades and knights of round + quadra magic and using the w-item glitch that gives unlimited items. This is like watching something alien, it's amazing.
Same here. I worked on Ruby and Emerald for months (many years ago) and finally defeated them, so to see this, my mind is blown. I can't remember my strat totally, but it involved Knights of the Round and Phoenix being cast repeatedly.
I knew what was gonna happen and I only got to the sand prison area then when I did get out I was stupid and forgot save and went the wrong way and went back into the prison, havent played since ( about 14 years ago maybe longer )
Yuffie is literally killing bitches in her fucking sleep...that is way more bad ass of a ninjitsu skill than anyone from Naruto and Boruto could ever accomplish.
That's because the game was so broken when they had a version of it that was playable they just completed it than. So yes the developers are even unaware of some of the things you can do. The debug mode is crazy too.
That is badass. I've completed every aspect of the game many times over but never knew that one nor seen it before! I used to go Knights of round route - thanks for showing
@@headchala7703 which is even more sad. Why even call the shit final fantasy 7 and not just anew game. That’s one of the reasons it’s hard to play the remake, it’s a weird version of the original game.
Technically it's the 7777 health attack/glitch. Most people do the 9999 down to 7777. This video just happens to have a character at that health level to execute the trick.
I think he was being sarcastic cause Yuffie is trash(comparatively to what my opinion is a better squad for the occasion, know what I mean?) But hey, I still love Yuffie and had her on my team just as often as my favorites.
@biggains1I think tifa had the worst limit break though, with cait sith 😂 only does like 7 or 8 hits, cloud and yuffies does the same amount 15 his is just stronger without needing to level his strength to max
What sucks is that none of this information was around during its time. I still have the strategy guide and it mentions nothing close about using the materia in this fashion. I don't think even the developers knew about it.
From what I understand, the materia system was poorly and hastely coded. They did not anticipate a lot of the combinations or what would happen if a player decided to duplicate a lot of them, which is why a lot of abuse is possible. The most blatant proof is the W-item bug, which became so iconic that they only partially fixed it on later versions.
@@DarkRattlehead actually if you look at the original strat guide they actually had a whole section of materia combos and granted there wasnt all of them but the hp manipulation for lucky 7s has been a thing since year 1 i can promise ya. in fact if you look hard enough you can prolly find old guides still online from the first few months after release with almost all the known combos for insane broke stuff. but the official guide released with the game does have the final summon combo with phoenix and alot of the more broken stuff
And all those 20 years I thought double summon hades to inflict stop and knights of round + mp absorb against him was a good setup. Incredible how the materia system is full of (broken af) possibilities.
Back in 1997, I had no idea how to beat Ruby. I eventually figured out that you could throw Gil at it. I vaguely recall that about 100k Gil was enough to do 9999 damage each turn, each character. Expensive, but it worked.
I just love th naming of the characters.... I usually change name for Rex to Nanaki... Later in game all characters will be like... Who's Nanaki? And then Nanaki will be like... I'm Nanaki! 🤣 As in the whole gang just totally ignored trying to learn his name 🤣
So just get master summon and W-summon, fill the rest with mime and the blue counter Kill off two characters prior to battling and fight Ruby. Cast knights of the round twice and the game will cast it another 14 times after ruby hits you once. Also works with limit breaks. Literally anything you do it will do 7 times You win. I used that back in 1997.
Ruby Weapon and Emerald Weapon… now they don’t make video game bosses like them anymore. The fact the game is as old as it is and has millions of fans around the world and there are still people who never defeated them is a testament to their difficulty. If you weren’t prepared you were either totally screwed over by status effects, removed from the fight or one shot from emerald rain or shadow flare. These guys were no joke.
go look up some of the late game stuff in final fantasy brave exvius. emerald and ruby are absolute cake walks vs some of the shit on that final fantasy game. i have never been wiped on turn 1 so many times on a boss. its shameful lol.
@@SmEiF- To be honest with you mate, I’ve never heard of that game before. My love for the FF games tailed off after FF13 and I’ve toyed with the idea of playing the online game but I’m always on Destiny 2 now so I never bothered.
So basically the setup is to have yuffie counter magic with tornado (confusion) and sleep from the contain and seal materia and then counter physical attacks with mime. Quadra magic linked to master material means that either counter is quadrupled (or it that 16x since there are four pairings?). So when Ruby weapon does a physical attack, Yuffie counters by quadruple (or 16x) miming her previous unleashed limit break, doom of the living which itself hits 16 times at 7,777 each since Yuffie is on Lucky 7's. Since its quaduple quadramagic'd, it hits for 16x4x4x7777 dmg = 1,990,912 dmg--easily twice Ruby Weapon's HP. theoretically, that means it's reproducible with Cloud's Omnislash too, but that only hits 15 times. Is this right?
@@kahlzun ungermax hits more times than any other limit break. I believe it's 16 vs. the 15 of onmislash or doom of the living, so in theory it should calculate out for more damage.. He's my go to for quick soloing of emerald simply for that reason ... max damage from ungermax
Basic version: Counter=mime let her counter attack with her limit break 7,777 HP= lucky 7s, all attacks deal 7,777 damage but HP set to 1 after the battle. The whole setup for this was forcing her to be alone and survive to be able to mime herself on counter repeatedly. The putting herself to sleep was just for swag points since I don't think it changed anything.
I'm 98% possitive you made this video thinking, "I'm going to do something cool with Yuffie and show had badass she can be." And then that because COMPLETELY derailed and you needed up getting her to sleep herself, then be an ULTIMATE badass killing Ruby without even meaning to. LMFAO!!!
@@Tea.Baggins In OG FF7 there is a materia called "Mime" that does what ever the last materia you used did. When you maxed it, you got another Mime Materia. So you would summon Knights of the Round, then have everyone else just use Mime and walk away from your playstation for 5 minutes while all the summon animations (unskippable back then) played. Was the best way to rek the Weapons.
@@nighteel Mime material wasnt able to be used/discovered till after disc 2, lmfao. Makes sense that it wouldnt be in the remake yet, thats like saying "Bahamut Zero Materia isnt in the game". Think before you speak, Dingbat.
Think I've killed him 3 times the good ol fashion way- a lot of Game Overs. The fun of it back then was there was no guide for the 2 Weapons, you just had to figure it out yourself. The last that I remember I killed 2 of my members before battle, gave my main character an armlet that dodged most every attack (Aegis maybe?) and used the cursed Knights of the Round and I somehow did not get killed while he was using his KoTR Counter Attacks (maybe ultima or flare?). Replaying it again right now and I am looking forward to dying a lot and figuring it all out again- it's been probably a decade since I fought these beasts!
not once did i ever think of buffing its speed lmao. And I was way more confused than Yuffie was watching you do this. I was pretty young when i soloed him with her. I relied on hades, knights of the round, and mime. about 1000x slower than this, but effective. I tried to do the lucky 7s thing once, but doing the maths to accomplish didn't seem like it was worth it at that time. Good show.
The wonders being a sleeping beauty instead of snoozeless shinobi can do for a girl. No matter what happens st the end of remake trinity, it'll never have the sheer inexhaustible well to draw out such bizarre possibilities such as these.
Magic counter, knights of the round. Use an elixir every turn. I used to use a hair tie and win absentee by holding the button 20 years ago. 😴 Could win with any character as long as 2 party members were already dead
It was a serious challenge defeating the weapons when I was younger, last time I played it it barely required any effort, but this is a whole new level of low effort 😆
guys its been 20 years since ive played this game as a teen, anyone caring enough to give context? how does it work? why is Yuffie keeping attacking and why is the weapon not attacking it?
Ruby never counters because every action from Yuffie starting from 2:49 (when Ruby uses Big Swing) are counter attacks. I don't think the game allows for a counter of a counter, so Ruby's at the mercy of this huge chain. The setup basically goes like this: Regen on Yuffie to start the counter up to 7777 4x Hero Drink on Yuffie (Attack, Defense, Magic, and Magic Defense by 30% up to 100% total) Kill off Cid/Cloud to prevent quicksand attack. Tendrils come up, but are controlled BY Ruby. Dazers to inflict stop on Ruby (also stops tendrils by extension) Mirror to inflict reflect on Ruby (for later bouncing things off him) Speed Drink to inflict haste on Ruby (to get him out of stop faster) Doom of the Living on tendrils (sets it as Mime action) From there, as soon as Ruby attacks, Yuffie will counter with: 1x Mime 4x Tornado (long animation with negligible damage to make sure she hits 7777) 8x Sleep (doubt she'll be able to dodge all of them) 6x Mime (I think? "Enough times")
@@Pickleton thx a ton for this, appreciate u takin time to explain. love how this game rewarded thinking out the line with such fun and cool broken strategies. cheers
@@Pickleton Interesting setup, fun to see new stuff this many years later. However by the time you mastered that many counter and mime materias you could have probably source farmed yuffie to 255 in all stats and just clapped ruby with a mime, w-summon, hades, KotR, and hp absorb and still had time to spare.
I remember defeating Ruby Weapon with Cid using Pandora’s Box. It took about 2 hours. When it was finally over, the end battle music never played and it was stuck. 🤦♂️
1997: ruby weapon is the toughest boss ever 2021: ruby weapon what a joke I could beat it while sleeping Ff7 remake: alright guys we need to introduce a boss in the next remake game to surpass ruby weapon
@@bronysaiyan5236 harder, not really just higher hp, but the with the lack of multi-hit attacks makes it take forever. FF12's mechanic's make it almost impossible to die unless all three characters get killed at the same time, but most end game setups make that impossible to do so even on the mega bosses. And then even then you have a back-up party to switch to before you KO, which can also resurrect anyone to boot.
So to confirm, is the Magic Counter=Contain(3) using Tornado so that you can make manual corrections to your hp and make sure you hit 7777 exactly at the right time?
Doesn’t seem so, the max health is set for 7777 so Yuffie just has to reach max hp and everything is golden. Personally, I have no idea why the tornado was launched outside giving Yuffie enough time for her regen to fill her health. Just using a long animation ability outside her limit break to get that extra health and pop lucky 7’s. That’s my guess, at least.
@@nicholashernandez4611 My thought was that the slight nudges using the menu to change between ACTIVE/WAIT was so that Yuffie would hit 7777hp right after the final cast began to avoid interruption, and not before. Not sure if Lucky 7s would interrupt casting sleep, though.
@@Pickleton Another idea: since tornado did so little damage, that meant Yuffie did practically all the damage in her 7777 state. Still, Yuffie needed time to get her regen to heal her to full. Those tornadoes took a while, and I don’t remember exactly what sets the regen timer to run out but the old PlayStation had the ability to pop the top open and regen would run forever until the top was closed if anyone cast magic or the sort. Maybe the regen would run until the spell ran out and the game didn’t update the regen status? That’s my best guess.
@@nicholashernandez4611 Possibly. I think It's also partially because there's no guarantee that Ruby will Big Swing as soon as he did, which is why he kept ensuring timer was on WAIT for so much of the video. If Ruby for some reason used Big Swing far earlier, he could've use the time taken to use Tornado to let regen tick up a bit more to ensure HP hit 7777 before the mime chain.
Awesome strategy! Im not afraid to admit that Ruby weapon was the HARDEST boss to beat and I've played this game disc to disc 3 times while growing up. Managed to conquer all the Sephiroths, Jenovas and the all other WEAPONS but could never get past this one. Memories! 🤣
@@deanokhalik173 I think Ruby is harder in theory but easy to cheese with several tactics like the paralysis pins, Emerald has no such thing, you basically need to be really strong to beat it.
Its been awhile since i played this game but i think the materia was called morph. Anyways i morphed the enemies into different source tabs to max out cloud at the crashed Gelnika. Then i beat the emerald and ruby weapon
@@killerb255 Yes you can but the interesting part of this video is using Quadra Magic with a limit break (that is why the limit break animation is glitched).
