Where I use to work at we had an electric crane hoist that was rated for 15 tons. That sucker came in really handy when we were working on bulldozers and trackhoes.

I hooked mine up with a winch, car battery, battery charger and inverter. Made life nice and easy

What do you need the inverter for? The winch should be 12v, the battery is already 12v, and the charger should plug into the wall to charge the battery turning AC into 12vDC.

Brandon, if you stay with a chain winch for the gantry, get yourself a FOD bag for the chain to rest in. Otherwise the chain will bang up against everything you work on. Ask me how I know. As your use for the gantry grows, adding a electric or pneumatic winch will be in the cards.
