Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.
I hope you enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos. You can also find me on Facebook borderviewfarms and on Instagram @borderviewfarms

Grew up on a Farm, did something else for 45 years, but I now know more about farming from watching your channel than I ever dreamed of. Thanks very much for sharing your knowledge and time with us.

As far as field loss, it's obvious from the drone shots that even though the 360° may be running over a stalk here and there, you'll be seeing much more harvest because of the additional stalks not removed from the fixed irrigation system.

Drone video was sweet. Corn Roomba is awesome. Runs slow enough that it doesn't hurt the corn.

We run a hard hose and pull with a D17 and have a mower on it that runs at about shoulder height so we can run through standing corn. If we select a shorter hybrid it will run just above the ear like seed corn.

14:20 yeah I tried to shop local and buy American all that stuff... It's hard when like you're saying they're charging two to three times more and their selection is almost nothing... I get it it's hard to run a small town business but when your customers have the choice of ordering it online and having it delivered in a couple days...

We use a product called Salt Lick by Hotsy. You use the foam cannon to put it on and let it sit for ten minutes, then power wash off. Works really good on the sprayer. Also works great on road salt on the vehicles that it was designed for.

What if foaming soap was squirted into all the small cavities of a row unit... Would dried up dirt balls like that melt away? Salts Gone? I didn't even know this stuff existed and ordered some already. Logically it should be a great addition as one of the washings that you were going to do anyway.

This 360 solution seems very beneficial. Im curious about the cost differentials between this type of unit and the conventional pivot systems being utilized. Would this be a valid replacement to those systems?

This irrigation system is something better for the soil in that so much salt is added to the soil with sprinklers rather than flood irrigation. This is flood irrigation which is better for the plants than sprinklers. Of course it does not wash the leaves clean as sprinlers do, but I have watched corn all my life and people flood irrigating down the corn rows had way stronger corn than sprinklers.
@bc1997
@bc1997 5 дней назад
farmers replant beans but not corn as often, is this due to the higher population of the bean seed? I do know you are planting double crop beans now and not a replant. i hope i made my question clear,

I, for one find the agronomic information more interesting than just watching machinery going up and down the fields, there are plenty of channels to watch that. I always look forward to his videos and appreciate all the time and effort that he puts in. It’s a shame there’s not more subscribers , but I feel there are more actual farmers watching Nathan, Mark, Phil and the boys than a lot of the other major channels. Also I live in the uk so we don’t grow the same crops, or on such a scale.
