Finally experiencing A BRONX TALE (1993)! Never too late to appreciate the classics 🍿🎬

I think this is one of the best movies ever made. It really shows how you can grow up in a certain environment,even benefit from it yet not conform to it.

This was De Niro’s directorial debut and one of my all time favorites 👍

Love this movie! Chaz palminteri wrote the book the play is based on. Loosely based on his life growing up.

I grew up in the Bronx in the 60's, and this was like memory lane. Great movie, great reviewing too!

$600 was no fuckin joke back then, thats literally like $10,000.00 for a poor family to say no, thats how strong that sense of honor was in those old school Italians, they werent proud of thoe mafios's but they were a fact of life, smart people were friends with thme but they didnt get involved with them. The attitude was "they are bad people, but they are our bad people" and they were the real law on those streets but thats also why theire streets were the safest streets, a young girl could walk through those blocks with out worry of being in danger because if you came there to mess with the neighborhood you just disappeared. A lot of these black neighborhoods were inspired by the Italian ones and they adopted all the bad parts but without the good parts, if they had taken some of the good things the way the Mafioso's ran their streets the black neighborhoods would be much better places today. They took the gang parts seriously but not the part where the gangs actually protected the neighborhoods and helped build thme up instead of bringing them down.

I was just saying the other day this movie gets overlooked. It's one of the great movies of the era, written by one star, directed by the other.

Saw Chazz Palminteri perform this live on stage as a one man act years ago. Not sure if he still does it, but he was great.

Always loved this movie. Great story about growing up, different forms of fatherly love, and the acting is spot on.

Another classic for me. This was the first gangster movie I watched as a kid.

Wow, what a great film. First watched it in ‘93 & to this day, when something goes wrong, my family says we got Mushed because of this movie. There’s great storytelling here. I understand what you said about the racism but I like that they didn’t sugar coat it. It was raw and real. Only as an adult did I start to appreciate the juxtaposition of Lorenzo and Sonny. One is a good family man that works for his money and he’s trying to keep his son out of trouble. The other is a wise guy who is typically looked at as a crook, criminal, murderer, what have you. Yet, Lorenzo has his own feelings about race and discouraging his son from engaging in interracial relationships. Sonny tells C to drop his loser friends and not to care what they think, that he should go out with Jane anyway. There’s something poetic about that. The duality of a person’s moral compass is strange but meaningful. It’s wonderful how they showed different sides to these characters. There’s no black and white. Everything and everyone is nuanced.

Can't see Chaz without thinking of him in Oscar. 🍗

The song, I Wonder Why, Dion and the (original ) Belmonts. The group was from 187th and Belmont Ave in the Bronx. A great Doop group that should be in the R&R Hall of Fame. Check out some of their music, classics.

Great reaction, also the comparison with Henry Hill, whose way C has not gone thanks to Sonny has pleased me very much.👍🙂 Here's a fun fact: the actor Chazz Palminteri aka Sonny is the Calogero aka C from the real story that was filmed here, and he agreed to act in the film version if he gets the role of Sonny, which De Niro actually wanted to act in his film, but then took the smaller role of C's father.

good job. I saw this one night in like 93 we rented this, The Crow and Naked Gun 33 1/3. We watched this about 7 times and never even watched the other movies!

It's kinda strange to see Robert De Niro in a mob in a movie where he's against the mob. Usually he's right there in the middle of it shoving somebody into the trunk of his car.

This movie came out a year after I was born lol lol! I’m 31 now, and I seen it for the first time 6 years ago! I’m from Boston, so I can always relate to any movie that’s based in the Northeast lol! But good choice and reaction as usual!
