14:58... Couldn't hold my tears.. What a great effort! How is it possible to have such an emotional connection with a place you have never visited?! Life Is Strange was way more than a video game...Big applause to all those who made this video possible.
I live in Oregon, and imagine feeling that kind of connection, and seeing how familiar it all looks, like so many memories of the Oregon coast. When I first saw this game, it just felt like home (scenery wise, not plot wise). There are so many places in this game where I thought, "I have been here before". The restaurant, the roads, the overlooks, the sunset... all so familiar.
LIS was like the first game i played where i really did appreciate how beautiful the setting of the game was and the graphics. also thank u for playing the iconic song at the end, the shots you got were really inspiring
This is so bizarre. My dad lived in Garibaldi when I was a kid, I used to spend my weekends here... Incredible memories of hiking to the "G", renting movies from the gas station, watching the sunset from the roof, trick-or-treating at the school, dinner on the pier. I've never played the game and am having my mind blown that people even know about this little community.
My mind is blowing. My dad lived here when I was a kid and I used to spend the weekend here. I have so many great memories of this little town and am shocked and so happy it resonates with people. I guess I need to play this game finally.
I worked in this area of Oregon for 9 summers, at a Scout camp on the coast about 20 minutes from Tillamook. LiS got the vibe so right. I think that's part of why the first game means so much to me, is the setting feels like I'm home. Excellent documentary series, glad I stumbled upon it
This was really cool. I love the found footage feel to this video. In my random investigations I did find there was a coastal town completely wiped out by a storm many decades ago in the tilamook bay which I believe is strong inspiration. They say that town should have never been built. I love the lore of this game and would love to know more.
We visited that area and read the placards there. Its located the opposite side of the bay across from the town. After reading them and seeing the area I don't really feel there is a connection. Perhaps, but it sounded more like the town was build in an area with bad drainage and they were advised not to build because of this. Also the area was very small. That being said the LIS staff may have been inspired, but I have my doubts on that.
Your video is just amazing and impressed me so much! What a sincere and deep dedication to finding the real Arcadia Bay's exact locations you all accomplished! I was so touched:) If I got a chance to flight to America from Japan and drive to Garibaldi, I would like to go and see every location!
I've thought for the longest time that Blackwell is loosely based on Franklin Highschool in Portland. It was my first thought when I saw Blackwell actually.
Christopher, this documentary is wonderful! Thank you for this. RU-vid recommended the episode 3 for me because I was searching about the places that inspired Arcadia Bay and I just watched the whole series you made. It is beautiful to see how Life is Strange can touch/change our lives. I'm so inspired to go there someday. Thank you for catching those scenes. Cheers!
I'm glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the kind words. I really hope that you get a chance to go someday. I'm going to try to go back soon. The feeling of the bay hasn't left my mind.
I am korean who loves LIS. Arcadia bay looks beautiful and peaceful in game but Tillamook bay looks more beautiful and peaceful in real life. it makes me comfortable and calm. Thank you for video.
I only just discovered this marvel of a documentary, it totally made my day better! Thank you for making it and for sharing the locations, I got goosebumps seeing how much Garibaldi resembled the Bay. I know I'll visit it one day soon.
In some moment of my life, i'll be there for a couple of weeks, this type of story and mood make me feel great and comforted, i love the life the way like this. Peace!!!
When the credits rolled at the end i felt the same emotions i felt when i had this ending that was amazing to watch, i hope i can actually go there one day
Warren tells Max there is a drive-in just 60 miles away to Newberg, OR. If Garibaldi is supposed to be the real Arcadia Bay, then it's 84 miles to Newberg and not 60. Yet many fans of LIS have stated Tillamook, OR is the closest you'll get to the real Arcadia Bay which is 74 miles to Newberg making Tillamook 10 miles closer than Garibaldi. Then again, Warren could be 10 or 20 miles off. So who knows.
The milage could be off like you say, but the GPS coordinates hit the bay and the hills around and behind it. After spending time there, I truly believe that Tillamook is Arcadia Bay.
I was enjoying the video until you put Obstacles in it i just cannot listen that song without cry like a baby. But thanks for the video what an amazing place.
This is so interresting and well put together, the production value is admirable. Oregon is beautiful, definitely somewhere I'd go If I was ever to travel to the US
@@merrilldilly I don't think you could ever realize what your comment has meant to me, for me going to America has always been the dream, moreover a life goal. I guess I always associated Arcadia Bay with happiness and fulfillment, and still do. But here you are, in the place I've always dreamt of being, wishing to trade. This has really made me think and think a lot. I sincerely hope that things have and will improve for you and you find your happiness wherever you can.
The Two Whales diner kind of reminded me of the Blue Whale family restaurant in Yachats. And I would agree that Tillamook Bay looks right as far as and the cliff goes and the lighthouse definitely looks like Yaquina Head, but looking south from the viewpoint in the game, you can also see Haystack Rock. It looks like the view from Ecola State Park, but it's not Ecola State Park.
Videogames can show us the people we want to be around in real life, the people who would be good for us. Those people exist, you have to get yourself out there. Then you won’t only just get a belonging in a videogame, but also in the real world
There are some definite similarities. How did you find out that this diner is the basis? Was it mentioned in an interview? It's certainly possible by the way it looks.
Because the interior looks exactly the same, just search up blue moon diner life is strange on Google and you'll find exactly an infinite number of reasons. Plus, it's in Portland. They pretty much got inspired by all the coast of Oregon. As for the Blackwell academy, search for Highland junior high school, it looks exactly the same, though this one is in Canada. Might be a connection with one of the crew members? On the other hand, the Oregon state university also looks a like, but not that similar.
@@johnrobertmelescan2245 I've looked at images of both and I don't agree with your definition of "evidence". The interiors aren't exactly the same,, and looking similar isn't factual evidence but rather only suggestive at best. Also, there is no place or item in the game that looks completly like it's real like inspirational counterpart.
@@finalsignal well I hope you realized, of they would have replicated a place or an object exactly the same, it wouldn't have had that magical feeling anymore, and would have probably been struck by copyright. The diner design on the inside is the same, only colora differ, and obviously, being real-life Vs cartoon type graphics, it's more detailed too. There are many wiki pages and videos suggesting it.
@@johnrobertmelescan2245 I'm not going to try an unpack and address your previous response. It's becoming obvious that we can't have a rational discourse of ideas and views ,so let's just table things.
None of the towns we visited were large. Though most of the areas were interesting, I suspect it would be a relaxed lifestyle. There were pockets of nice houses, but I got the feeling that the area was economically strained. I would recommend visiting for at least a week but after the newness was gone consider what everyday life would be like. Are there many places to go, good stores, healthcare options, and did the area have good jobs.
Hi Christopher, how's going? I'm planning to make a video about Arcadia Bay on my channel. Since I can't travel right now, I'm wondering if I can use some of your footage to show some places that inspired the game. I also want to recommend your documentary and channel in my video... It's gonna be in portuguese, my audience is from Brazil. There isn't much good content about Life is Strange in Portuguese. So I think it would be nice to translate a little bit of your experience and tell some curiosities about the bay to the people here. Btw, do you have an e-mail? I would like to send you some LIS artworks I made. Cheers!
Hi Anderson. I think what you're planning sounds interesting. I don't mind if you use some of my footage, but I would ask that you don't change my color editing, please use as- is. In the past, I had someone take my footage and change the look of it without asking and I found that really disrespectful. You can contact me at finalsignal.net
One of the good reasons for choosing to save Arcadia Bay in Life is Strange. I'm always sorry for Chloe's death but I will always be of the opinion that saving Arcadia Bay is the right thing to do.
There is a small school in Garibaldi about the location that Blackwell would be positionaly. I have read few mentions that there is some school or college that is similar in some ways, perhaps an hour away. At the time I made this, I was not able to pinpoint or substantiate that claim.
