I have family that live there and I’ve only been able to go three times but when I went I had no idea the game and the this town were related at all, note lis is my favorite game of all time and I never made the connection years later. Growing up I always said I wanted to live there and I still stand by it. The vibes the town gives just instantly made it feel like home. I don’t know how to explain it, maybe only I can feel this way because of my personal attachment to the town bc of my family, but I really think this town is few of its kind left. Everyone there is so friendly and it’s just a quiet town. I can’t wait for the day when I get to pack my bags and call Garibaldi my home ❤️

Ever since this video/trip, I've gone back every single summer to visit at least once, some years twice. It really is such a quiet and peaceful place, with not only friendly people but a very wholesome and welcoming community altogether. I've already befriended more locals than I was ever expecting to, who remember me and are always happy to see me whenever I return. Unfortunately too many obligations where I am now to be able to just get up and leave, but it's so surreal that this random small town I learned of through a video game has already genuinely become my home away from home. It's still my life goal though, and there's still time. Hopefully one day, and when that day comes, perhaps I'll see you there! ☺️

I don't disagree, and personally I wouldn't want to move to Garibaldi specifically. I much prefer the city of Tillamook, which is just a short drive away, and where I stay every time I come back to visit. To me it's the perfect size, not too big or small, just enough going on without being overwhelming or crowded.

I'm planning a west coast roadtrip with my elderly parents and I've been thinking if it's worth it to take the detour and go to Garibaldi for the nostalgia for Life is Strange. It's a bit out of the way and perhaps we could sleep there in the way to Seattle, skipping Portland. Or maybe not, I'm not too sure yet. There could be potentially more interesting places to go and roads to travel. Would love to hear if you have any thoughts on this :)
@Ashquacks
@Ashquacks Год назад
It is definitely a beautiful (and very fun, if you're into that) drive up the Oregon coast, even just for the sights and really calming atmosphere, but there's interesting things to stop at along the way and check out as well like aquarium and Ripley's in Newport and the creamery in Tillamook. The latter is in my full trip video if you'd like an idea of it. Depends a bit on which direction you're coming from, and if you'd want to stop in Portland to do other things, but honestly outside of pdx there's not much to do inland in central Oregon either. As for value in sentiment/nostalgia, it of course depends on how much you personally see in it. My personal thoughts are pretty biased given my really strong attachment to Life is Strange and now the area, because it's worth it enough for me that every summer since, I drive for 2 days down from Alberta for the sole purpose of spending weeks there just hanging out and clearing my mind. It's genuinely become my home away from home. I don't think you'd be missing much by skipping Portland either, I'm not the biggest fan of it. Not because it's terrible or anything, but it's kind of just another generic big American city, and doesn't really have anything in particular that makes it stand out compared to any other big city. On my previous trip (in my recent videos if you'd like) I tried to spend more time there, but the only thing I really liked was the Japanese garden, which as per point isn't something exclusive to Portland. Hope this helps! Glad to answer any other questions you may have.
@PSPbrtag
@PSPbrtag Год назад
@@Ashquacks Very cool answer, thanks a lot! I think what I'm going to do is spend a day in Mt. Rainier and sleep around there, then in the next evening drive to Astoria, sleep there, and then the next day drive down the coast and sleep somewhere in between Astoria and Crater Lake. It's mostly a trip to relax and see the sights so I'm not too worried about skipping Portland but I hope I'm not doing it too fast! We have two weeks and my plan is to see as much as possible from in between Seattle and Los Angeles since I won't be back in a long time or perhaps at all. Right now I have one question that you might help me answer! After Crater Lake my plan is driving down to Napa Valley and sleeping there and maybe spending a whole day there, marking the halfway of our jorney, but getting there from Crater Lake It would be wise to pick a place in between to sleep and relax and it could either be going back to the coast through Crescent City or the straight-forward route through Redding. We plan on driving down the Pacific Highway from San Francisco to Los Angeles so I'm in between seeing some of northern california or going earlier to the coast and I'd love to hear your thoughts on it in case you're familiar with the region! Alternatively, I could skip Napa Valley entirely and go to Lake Tahoe instead, but it could be tiring and maybe we have already seen enough of mountains and forests by now? Either way, any opinions on it could be great!
@Ashquacks
@Ashquacks Год назад
@@PSPbrtag unfortunately I don't really have experience with the rest of the coast to be able to say. I come from inland so I go through Spokane to get to Portland, then head to the coast (towards Nehalem) from there, and spend my time mostly hanging around in the Tillamook and Newport areas. I haven't travelled more of the coast than between Cannon Beach and Florence, although I really should next time.

@genericwhitekidthesecond4330
Well if it counts Arcadia Bay wasn't really directly based on anything in the same way that you could easily say that Liberty City from Grand Theft Auto is based on New York City and Jersey City. Although there were places of particularly strong influence such as Garibaldi and Astoria, Arcadia Bay is just ingeneral a mishmash of the aesthetics, culture, and scenery of all the small towns up and down coastal Oregon aswell as American suburbia in general because Dontnod are a French development studio so anything American is unique for them. If you ever travel to this region I'm pretty sure you can go to just about anywhere along the coast of Oregon and you won't be disappointed about if it's like the game or not.
