I bought a Vanquish 340 and love it. Got a cheap open box return deal. They never even used it. I can find deep silver coins that most detectors (except Minelabs) miss here in America. Nothing can touch these on performance for the price. Australia has put me back in the detecting game. I started detecting in the 1970s and it`s been a long time since I had a detector that could reach the deep silver. They stopped using silver in our coins in the mid 1960s. I can`t afford the 700 dollar machines and to be honest 99% of the popular detectors here like the Garretts can`t hit as deep as my 179 dollar Vanquish in tests I`ve seen. I get a solid 13 inches on a nickel in air tests with it. I saw a guy get a solid signal on a silver dime (tiny coin) at nine inches in the ground.

Hi thankyou kindly for your time and effort in making this great video that is easy to follow and educational at the same time. It is great timing for me as I am currently trying to work out which is the best machine for me out of the Gold monster and the equinox 800! Thanks again! Cheers Ziggy

Hey Robert for what it's worth have a look at my comments, If you are looking for an easy to use gold only machine and don't need to be waterproof then the GM 1000 would be my choice, just, but I wanted a waterproof machine, so the Equinox 800 was my choice. I use factory settings and it simple to use, The best VLF machine I've used by a mile.

Hi, thanks for the great video. I have a new nox 800 and am wondering if it’ll work ok using your settings around the Inglewood (Vic) area? I think it’s known to be highly mineralised ground there, so I’m hoping the nox 800 will be ok for a few days? Would you suggest using gold mode 2 (rather than gold mode 1) and in all metal mode around Inglewood? Cheers,

Very interesting video...Being in the UK I have never had cause to use the gold mode, sticking instead to Field 1 most of the time...One thing I didn't hear you mention was ground balancing? What setting were you using and does getting the ground balance right help to overcome some of the mineralisation?
@goldgemstreasureandfish3483
@goldgemstreasureandfish3483 2 года назад
Gold mode has auto ground balancing as defualt)( unless you change it and I find it works pretty well) a couple sweeps over ground with no targets where you are detecting will rebalance if in doubt but I have done this less than ten times since I have had the detector
@goldgemstreasureandfish3483
@goldgemstreasureandfish3483 2 года назад
Also note here in Australia compared with other countries and especially in our gold fields our mineralisation could be classed as extreme by world standards and also highly variable over areas as little as 1meter square without auto tracking in a lot of places you would need to continuously ground balance

I would love to see the Gold monster up against the Nox 800. Have you done a vid on this, if not can you please? Regards, Mario.
@goldgemstreasureandfish3483
I don't actually know how you could make this comparison fairly to either detector... Simply first that when looking for gold both work better with smaller coils . The monster a five inch the nox a six inch or Coiltek 10 by five. This skews any results slightly from the start. The monster runs 45 khz the nox top frequency is 40khz also slightly skewing results. After using both I can give you my thoughts. The monster as expected is slightly more sensitive and gives I believe a better signal response....but very very marginally. The nox still detects tiny gold well less than .01g . In gold mode using the nox in all metal mode multi the nox gives a pretty good target id allowing you to descriminate by number although surrounding minrelization and ironstone encrusted nuggets in certain situations make descrimination impossible. My choice is the nox just because it basically does everything the monster does with a little more depth and you can 80 percent of the time visual id target descriminate. Lost count of the amount of times I check monster specimen finds and quickly sort out Horrocks from specimens. I also do this with my GPX 6000 finds....hope this helps

@@goldgemstreasureandfish3483 Hey Mr. Keenaz what he said, I don't run both machines I have the 800, because it's waterproof but, Bill Southern, Nugget Shooter Journals runs both machines as well and he says the same as Gold Gems and Treasure but for gold hunting he prefers the GM, another channel worth checking out. It does appear to be six of one and half a dozen of the other. The 800 is waterproof but more expensive when you add the 6" coil but the cordless headphones are solid gold.

Hey mate, thanks for your videos, I'm planning a possible trip to Tibooburra this winter, one of my sniping partners may come along but he has a Nokta Gold kruzer that as you know runs at a high frequency, he is worried about jot rocks and wants to go to Victoria, to detect in pipeclay areas. What's your opinion on hot rocks and using a VLF at Tibooburra. If I come up I would love to catch up. Thanks, John.
@goldgemstreasureandfish3483
Can't see that detecting with the kruzer would be any harder in Tibooburra or easier in Victoria ....just like in most gold fields there are places in Tibooburra where a VHF machine can be quite successful... If you have watched some of the Tibooburra stuff. I was able to show a bloke with a gold monster to go over the mullock heaps of detected with the 6000 over the next few days he pulled quite a few pieces out of places id already detected with the 6000 ( I don't miss much)

Gold 2 not quite as sensitive so when substitute depth for a slightly quieter machine

What coil are you using for the nox and would the setting work on the 6inch coil
@goldgemstreasureandfish3483
@goldgemstreasureandfish3483 2 года назад
Mathew Moore I'm using the Coiltek 10 by 5 and I'm sure the same settings will work with the Minelab 6 inch coil although I personally have not tried it. Because of the sensitivity of the Equinox 800 the smaller the antenna (coil) the easier it should be to find gold. Remember the problem is not finding gold the machine will do that it's being able to hear it clearly in mineralisation that is present

I love my nox 800 but in all metal it chatters like two gossips at a church picnic in mineralized ground. Please don't try to outguess Minelab their advice is to use it in multi mode. I like Factory Gold 1, it will pick up 0.1grams while notching out hot rocks and ferrous targets, even with the stock 11" coil with the 6" coil it is even more sensitive. The nox 800 is more expensive than the Gold Monster 1000 when you add a 6"coil but it's waterproof and more versatile and on small gold there is only a fly shit in performance the, GM 1000 just hits it a TINY bit more. Sorry Lester but in shallow ground the nox 800 is every bit as good as the SDC 2300 on small gold, probably better.
@goldgemstreasureandfish3483
John Taylor there is no guessing involved my research is thorough and proven on Aussie highly minerilized gold fields by actually finding gold. As for the chatter learning your machine better or watching episode 2 of my RU-vid my help. Od rather learn how to deal with a hot detector than miss 95 percent of what you walk over which is exactly what your doing using it not in all metal mode. . Multi or 20 to 40 khz is fine but the all metal mode must be activated. Leaving it in 40 just simplifies things and makes the detector as close to the gold Monster in parameters as possible.
@goldgemstreasureandfish3483
It would make an interesting video though so if anyone truly believes that running the nox 800 out of all metal mode is the way to find gold with it..I'm up for that challenge...anyone versus me on a goldfield looking for gold with the nox 800 I'll use all metal the challenger uses just mode one or two gold standard (not in all metal) would be great to prove the point beyond doubt not that there is any ..Minelab only suggest Multi as target IDs are far more accurate in more than one frequency. I use multi in certain circumstances such as checking out wether a rock is a Hot rocks or specimen but it's always in all metal mode regardless of frequency selection

@@goldgemstreasureandfish3483 Well I guess it depends on where you hunt, there's just too much junk and hot rocks in my area, I haven't tested it but I could believe I am losing some depth by discriminating. But in disc. I'm not digging ferrous junk and at least and my machine is completely ignoring hot rocks, although I'm still digging plenty of bullets, shells and enough other non ferrous junk, I wouldn't want to be digging even more, that's time that could be spent swinging. In disc. multi I'm still finding as I said 0.1 gram pieces. Having said that over summer I will be in some remote clean locations doing some sniping which was the main reason, seeing its waterproof, that I got the nox, so I will try All Metal for sure I will also play with it in 40kHz. I have been swinging a VLF for 45 years but I will admit I'm not too old to learn new things, which is the point of watching videos like yours, it's for information not entertainment. Thanks for taking the time to do your videos and for the feedback.
@goldgemstreasureandfish3483
@@johntaylor6654 we never stop learning and everything is area dependant in gold prospecting being in Australia we have the most minerilized soils in the world of which I have found nox gold in most there are some areas in those minerilized provinces where just like the other vlfs I would not use the nox as it would be to hot. My profeceincy with the nox comes from months of perseverance with the chatter to work out how best to use the machine successfully . I'm grateful that I did because it has made me a far better detectors, most of my detecting now is done with the gpx 6000 of which even in the worst soils so far I have not taken off full manual and mild ground settings something I would never have been able to do with out training myself in hot soils with the nox. I now pick up the gold the others miss with the 6000 thanks to my ability to ignore mentally certain signals and interference.. when you go sniping in all metal let's say on a .1 piece your depth will treble compared to descrim and you will be able to detect bits far smaller than .1g happy hunting

Two IMPORTANT TIPS you MISSED!! #1- You DID NOT do a Noise Cancel!! #2- You DID NOT do a MANUAL Ground Balance, which can AFFECT its PERFORMANCE!! Also, the EQUINOX is NOT meant to OUT PERFORM the SDC-2300 by any Serious Means!! NamVetLesTreasureSeeker.
@goldgemstreasureandfish3483
@goldgemstreasureandfish3483 2 года назад
I don't show doing a noise cancel everytime as this does not need to be explained as you do it everytime no matter what detecting your doing with every detector and doing manual ground balance you would be doing it in that soil every 5 seconds so is mostly a waist of time when you have continuous auto balancing that works great....I guess the fact that I find extremely small gold in highly minerilzed areas that have been heavily exploited shows that my methods are not to far off the mark the only time manual ground balancing may be useful is if your over a target and the auto balances the target out.... fortunately the equinox 800 seems Less likely to do this than the gold monster does....Never ever would I say the equinox can outperform the SDC 2300 overall....but there is situations where a VLF used in competent hands can outperform the SDC 2300.....By the way I use the sdc2300 75 percent of the time compared to the equinox 25 percent of the time

@@goldgemstreasureandfish3483 Agreed, the 800 will find smaller gold. So will the GM, they both perform well in mineralized ground. For those of us on a budget either one is a good choice, as Gold Gem And Treasure says they have their place.
