Having just implemented creature classes and genomes this speaks to me! OEE is something I’ve grappled with. I was planning to move up a level to multi-cellular life but haven’t managed that yet!

I got interested in Open-Ended Evolution a year or so ago and started searching for content from yours while reading S. Levy's "Artificial Life" and K. Kelley's "Out of Control". Thanks for doing such interesting and insightful research! About this video, I like the approach of starting from the end and going backwards :) And let me report: "... We should get over the habit of implementing creatures, we should get over the habit of saying, okay, what is a creature, well a creature is a class, it has a genome which is also a class, which has data which is an array and so on.... because, every time we do that, we make life that much harder for us down the road to try to see something open-ended in it, because we privileged the representation that we're coming in on essentially we've made laws of physics that know where individual ends where a genome starts and ends exactly..." How true this is!!!

Superb points about evolution, Go one level deeper and create evolution it self. Wow

Hey Dave, Your work in computation based off of artificial life and living systems is the most fascinating development in computer science so far! Do you think artificial life and post-deterministic computing could be compatible on some functional level with technologies and systems based of off biomimicry? Say for example, artificial neural networks, neuromophic computers, hard and soft robotics, self replicating machines/materials? Or artificial photosynthesis (where computation required) Perhaps as a more viable and compatible alternative to deterministic software and operating systems?

It'll take a lot of work, but, ultimately, absolutely yes! "In the end, living systems and computational systems turn out to be the same thing."

wondering if inside a cell, another cell might appear. then the inner cell creates more cells, and you have a multi-celled organism. The the language you create allow for that possibility? If it doesn't, what do you think if it could do that?
