What separates the Pros from the average Joes? Fine Tuning! This step that is the last step in the recurve archery tuning process and will give you a huge advantage. The difference between a decent grouping bow and a world class tune is fine tuning. I take you through my process and give you the tools and knowledge on how to adjust your bow to shoot the best it can for you.
No matter your level, you can benefit from fine tuning. I have seen many people amazed at how tight their groups can get with a little time and effort into fine tuning.

FYI fine tune at the distance that matters most to you. If you are shooting 70m rounds do it there. For indoors shoot at least 30 arrows per change on new target faces and turn them over to see your group spread. Field archers I’d do it at the longest distance.

Hi Jake, thanks for another helpful video. I was just about to ask about what distance you would fine-tune at for Field, when i noticed you had recommended longest. Can i ask, do you have any insight you can share about why to tune at longest distance for Field please?

Hi Jake, could you please repeat how you'll adjust and compensate the change applied on the rest position? Like in the video, if for instance you incrementally lowered the rest to narrowdown the vertical dispersion, the tip of the plunger now would touch the top half side of the arrow shaft, thus how do you get the tip to be placed again in the middle of the arrow? Just by moving up the nocking point ? Thanks!!

Will be interesting when you try this for barebow - you also want to hit where you aim (at all distances) - not always so simple when also fine tuning...

If i were to guess, I’d fine tune at the furthest distance since that is where you can gain or lose the most points.

Hi Jake, wonderful video again. Can you teach to make temporary nocks that we can screw up and down the serving to adjust nock heights. That would be very useful I think here as an alternative to raising rest height.

Hi Jake - I'm relatively new to the sport and benefiting hugely by following your tutorials. I shoot barebow. Would you please explain how changing the plunger pressure spreads/reduces the group size rather than simply moving the group left or right. I'm probably missing something so appreciate your patience here 🙂 thx sir.

Is this method finding also the center shot? At least the right -left? Walking back tuning and this modify the same. Don't they?

Jake, you mentioned not adjusting things like brace and tiller during this process. Does this assume/recommend a neutral tiller and also that center shot is already set? Thanks for the deluge of helpful videos!

A hypothesis on how Fine-Tuning achieves better groups despite seemingly deviating from the Perfect Tune: The Perfect Tune has the most forgiveness, as the bareshaft arrow flight is equivalent to the fletched arrow, thus the fletchings have the maximum capacity of arrow flight correction potential (highest margin of forgiveness). However, this margin of forgiveness is distributed evenly along the vertical and horizontal axes of the arrow flight. It is likely that the archer's technique itself has a biased error distribution. For example, maybe the archer tends to expand through the clicker a little bit too hastily when under pressure, causing minor increases in draw-length and subsequently increases the dynamic draw weight, resulting in a weak-high bias in the grouping pattern. Theoretically, Fine-Tuning would then find that a slightly stiffer plunger and a slightly higher nocking point (or slightly lower arrow rest position) would have the best groupings - these two adjustments are basically compensating for the weak-high grouping bias. So overall, Fine-Tuning reduces the margin of forgiveness (due to deviating from the Perfect Tune), but redistributes it according to the error bias of the archer, providing the most forgiveness when it counts for the archer, and therefore results in better groupings. Just theory-crafting, no evidence nor citations.

Also like some one said to me archery is not judged on style etc only where the arrows hit so it dosent matter if your arrows do loops etc if they hit the 10 thats all it counts. Like to saying if the arrows are hiting where your aim / wanting for the them to hit thats all that counts

I am having a problem with arrows consistency hitting right ( I'm a right handed barebow shooter) and wonder if I should adjust my sideplate out? My arrows are slightly stiff now so maybe byhaving a close to centre shot setup is causing this issue? Cheers, Jason

Great advice here Jake! Is it normal to have to change the fine tune every few weeks? EX the tune achieved one day not being as perfect a few weeks down the line. Just asking of my own experience where I'd have an amazing tune one day, and requiring more and never ending adjusting to keep perfect? Thanks.

Try tuning like this when your having an “off” day. If you can get great groups when you just don’t have it that day, imagine how good it can be when you are “on”
@williamarnsparger4547
@williamarnsparger4547 4 года назад
I did tuning like this on compound and one additional thing I did was number the arrows so that I could identify if I had arrow that might be bad, consistently shooting outside the group, of course, I would not look at the number while loading the arrow so as not to influence the shot. I would on occasion find this to be a factor. What is your thoughts on that.

It’s a great idea but somewhat unrelated. It is more towards arrow selection and I’ll for sure be covering that soon

One thing I’m always hearing with setup videos is hearing ‘adjust plunger’ all the time, however, I still haven’t heard where should we start From? Is it weakest to strongest? Start with a certain spring dependant on spine and draw weight?

Hi jake, I have a question regarding tuning, I used to shoot 42 lbs with 500 arrow spine, but problems happened and i had to shoot with 40 lbs. The things is that i am unable to properly tune my bareshaft,my bareshaft fly so left compare to the fletched arrow.So I had to scratch the method and only tune the fletched arrow to ensure it fly straight without having to adjust left or right on sight on all distance. So if i want to do the fine tuning, will it work out for my arrow? since I noticed that the method only involved plunger and arrow rest without adjusting tiller or brace height. Thank you
@JakeKaminskiArchery
@JakeKaminskiArchery 4 года назад
Have you made sure you did a walk back tune to make sure your center shot is ok? And have you made sure your sight is aligned correctly? Those two things affect left to right change at distance a lot. I have both of those videos on this channel FYI.
