Finishing the shower, installing the kitchen counter top, & sink. Installing the appliances, and he's finally moving in. Helping our son finish his hyperadobe tiny house.
This is a DIY build. We are not professionals, just sharing the process as we build this house. Please always work safely and do your own research.

So great that he has his own home and that his parents helped build it for him. This will mean so much to him for decades to come.

Drying clothes can be done very efficiently on a clothesline.. Especially out in the desert - even in monsoon season. In NM where I once lived, line drying happened almost as fast as the washing. A couple of poles for clotheslines would be cheap in easy. Or maybe he could set something up as part of his solar shed? I noticed some dust blowing around.. Not unusual. A good next project might to create a courtyard on the front side made from plastered earthbag walls. And maybe some sections of coyote fence to make it quicker and more interesting. Could provide protection from the wind and the dust. Nice to see the place finished up!

Such an wonderfull little home. Many people would be very happy to live here. My congratulations. One suggestion for the curtains. If he doesn't want to curtains to billow around so much while the fan is running he could get some tablecloth weights with crocodile clips on one end. They work really well and are inexpensive most of the time.

Thanks Red, this was a great conclusion to your son’s home build. Does he have any plans to move his RV into your container barn or will he be building another structure to protect the RV for visitors to use? Will he be collecting rainwater from the roof into an IBC tote for plants or his own garden? Wishing you, April and all your family a blessed week filled with gentle rains, seasonally appropriate weather and restful evenings together. Peace brother
@RedandAprilOff-Grid
@RedandAprilOff-Grid 10 месяцев назад
He plans to sell the RV, and doesn't plan to have a garden. He might consider directing the water to a tree or something like that. It has cooled down some, which has been really nice, and we are starting to get a little rain.🌦️😊 Thanks! Hope you are having a great summer and doing well. ❤️

I think a good idea for this type f house is when you get about socket height run a wire conduit around the perimeter and place boxes where you want them and need them ... and then cover the conduit with furring strips for fastening to ... yes below or above the wires ... so access to the wire run is always on a seam ... makes for easy repairs that way ... one could also use laminated beams fr the rafters and include a wire run along its length then you can pull power down from any rafter you need to ... just include a box each 4 feet and you have access to power all over for lights sockets fans machines etc
@RedandAprilOff-Grid

I wonder how the heat from the refrigerator will effect the inside temp? A friend built a tiny home, rammed earth on three sides and conventional framed n insulated front wall, maybe a bit smaller than Kyles and had to wait a while before her appliances were delivered (pandemic supply chain issues) and found it was quite comfortable temperature wise... Then when the refrigerator got hooked up the house temp rise was about 6 degrees and it wasn't as comfortable anymore. She had to put in a 5000 BTU FRIGIDAIRE AC unit in her kitchen window (and bought 4 100 watt Harbor freight solar panels and a charge controller + some LiFePo4 batteries for LED lights and powering the AC). On 'power save' it really doesn't run but a couple of hours a day and also helps keep the E. Texas humidity down too.
@dickdavidson3616

Would be nice if the refrigerator condenser unit could be positioned outside, like a split air conditioning unit? Less noise and no heat gain.
@RedandAprilOff-Grid
@RedandAprilOff-Grid 10 месяцев назад
Yes, the appliances do seem to add some heat. It got really hot outside at the same time, so it's hard to say exactly how much. He'll probably put in some type of cooling next summer.

A custom built electrothermal A/C would cool the place off 12v DC power. Search (DIY Kit 8 Chip TEC1-12706) and build it like a combination of a vehicle A/C and computer liquid cooling system with the heat blowing outside, and the cool blowing inside. And for heat in the winter, reverse the polarity of the peltier modules.
