The time has come for Jon Chase and I to line up our Chevys at a drag strip and find out who built the baddass Gasser. Nearly a year in the making, the race is going down February 8th and 9th 2019 at the NHRA Winternationals in Pomona, California. There's a lot on the line. We are racing in front of thousands of people and the winner gets an incredible trophy; the loser must shave their beard right there in front of everyone. A cold chin or worse yet a fresh double chin will be the consolation prize for the runner-up in this battle of old skool cool street car.
As usual, my car is not ready and neither is my tow vehicle and my friends and I must drive 2,000 miles just to get to the starting line. This is the first in a series of videos about our adventure. We'll upload Part 2 just soon as I finish ending it in between wrenching sessions. As I type this we are almost to California, having thrashed on both the Ramp Truck and Blasphemi while having the time of our lives.
We couldn't have made the trip without the help of our friends at Wirecare.com and Miller Welders and because of that we've included links to the tools we used in this video. If you want more information please visit their respective RU-vid channels and websites.

Mint condition is an umbrella term that encompasses anything from fresh off the factory floor + dust to there's no dings in the doors, doors are hard to find, so it's mint condition. :) Trust me, i've seen it all (as in, others telling me something is 'mint condition'"). Sometimes i have the urge to appear dumb about it and just ask what does flavor have to do with the chipped paint, fire breathing electrics etc.

Honestly, it is roadkill now for all intents and purposes. I originally thought that Roadkill was David and this guy, but I sort of came to realize that Roadkill works because of Mike, and not as much because of David. David is a nice enough guy and all, but Finnegan is the humor and the trying hard but uphill battle guy.
@AB-80X
@AB-80X 5 лет назад
@@OldManBadly Not sure you're entirely correct. Roadkill is very much the chemistry between Mike an Dave. As when I watch a RK episode where Mike is not there and I feel it's lacking something, it's no different when Dave is not there. Look at the episodes with Mike and Tony vs. the episodes with Dave an Steve. It's the same thing. One is RK without Freiburger, the other is RK without Fin. Freiburger is so quick to pick up on Fins humour, to an extent where this is not even close. Look at the live show from PRI, it's the same. The chemistry is very unique.
@OldManBadly
@OldManBadly 5 лет назад
@@AB-80X You are correct to an extent, but this episode of FG is pure roadkill. Mike makes it happen with the sort of desire to do it right and the willingness to take big risks. That is the combination that made RK work initially. Go back and watch the first few episodes, and you can see who is really driving the humor and has the "can do but it will blow up" attitude. Mike's the man!

@wayneparris3439

@@scod3908 A good solder joint does not add any resistance and is used in place of crimping, not along with crimping. Low milage vehicles have problems, seals and wires do not last forever and when something that old has such low milage you can guarantee they have never been replaced. Hey guys, when you're done crimping those wires, drill a small hole in the crimp, and heat it up with a torch and then use the hole to melt solder in. AAAAAAand, once you're done with that, wrap the cable with High Abrasion tape. Safety n'Stuff.

@@wayneparris3439 a well crimped connection done with a proper crimper with compatible materials literally welds the strands and connector together. unless you're hard brazing your connectors all you're doing is introducing a heat cycle and some soft metal with a weird thermal expansion curve into the middle of a fusion weld
@wayneparris3439
@wayneparris3439 5 лет назад
@@Mister_Brown Oh I understand what you are saying but a lifetime in electrical work gives me a different take away. Brazing is just high temp soldering, the same result will happen with both. I have no desire to get into a big ol thing about it, soldering works, brazing works, crimping ... mostly works. Bless you and all your work, may your connections never fail. As for me, solder is the only way to go. YMMV!
@Mister_Brown
@Mister_Brown 5 лет назад
@@wayneparris3439 just sayin, i've seen plenty of crimped and soldered battery cables fall apart when vibration cracks the solder joint on a bad crimp job that anyone would have noticed if not for the solder. then again if you aren't equipped to crimp it properly it's better than nothing also brazing is soldering with hotter temps and different filler. the different filler is really the key here, letting you fill the joint with the same material. both soldering and brazing lead to wire fatigue as it but at least with brazing you're not adding differential expansion to the mix. tl;dr: if you don't have the tools to do REALLY good crimps then soldering ontop of crimps is probably going to last longer if you have all the proper tools, crimp connectors made for the purpose, and wire suitable for crimping, crimping alone will be more reliable.

If you have ever caught some channels when the video first gets posted, it will only play in low quality, or will constantly lock up.
