the girl in black who, towards the end, completely loses herself to the song, fills me to my core. this song reminds me of yellowjackets, and this deep, primal feminine rage just DOES something to my soul
this performance of fire, reaches into bones. it curls around my lungs, weaving in and out like shuttle on a loom and finds emotions and harm buried deep and transforms the pain, to rage screaming against old ways and demanding change with a knife at it's throat
I love this version. It seems like it's all women performers (I don't know them personally and how they identify), during a time when women's rights are on the line. I hope that's the energy they had while performing this.
Just some info, if you’re concerned about misgendering people, choirs like this are called SSAA choirs, men’s are typically TTBB, and a mix of both are SATB. Hope this could help!
Every time I listen to this, I get chills, I start crying, and I feel every emotion down to my core. This is female rage, the burning embers stoked into flames and burning hot, feminine energy radiating out in defiance. We WILL be heard, you will NOT extinguish us! You have awoken the primal beast and you have no idea what you have done. Take pity on those who would dare to put out our flame, for they will become ash, scattered in the wind and forgotten.
I just had the privilege of performing this in an SSAA honors choir yesterday. It was truly powerful to be a part of something like this- it's so different from anything I've ever sung in a treble choir. It's so guttural and primal, and is honestly so therapeutic to sing. Forever a moment I'll remember.
This is a high school choir I'm actually going to be preforming this song tomorrow with the same conductor. I do agree but I still think it was Beautiful
I'm not crying, you're crying. I'm not a particularly emotional person but this resonates so much. Mostly because we've been so far removed from these sounds in modern day society and for much of our recent past. We women are pitted against each other and have been for hundreds of years. If the "divine feminine" had a sound, this would be one of them. The feminine is as much fierce as it is loving.
My large SSAA chorus performed this a year ago, and it's incredibly powerful. My then-5- year old daughter was in attendance at our concert and still talks about it and likes me to play it. It's very primal.
This piece moves me to tears every time. It’s such a cathartic experience for these young women to be as loud and free as they want and it’s so beautiful
This is literally one of my most favourite sounds I’ve ever heard of all time to represent the feminine in all its forms. If only I could find the words to truly extend the truest depths of how beautiful this is to me.

i did this in my choir this year and performed it on tour in europe. The other boy choir really wanted to learn it too and I really miss singing the descant part.
The primal rage this incredible chant makes me feel. I just want to scream but I can't. Listening to this on loop with goosebumps all over my body and tears streaming down my cheeks. The men's blood surely would run cold and flee in fear if they heard us marching to this hand in hand raising our voices to the heavens refusing to let them take away our rights without a fight! The name Fire is so appropriate because at this point if they continue to steal our rights, we'll no longer beg for equality, we're done with words, it's time to set it alight because we're the phoenix that will rise from the ashes while we watch them BURN! 😤✊♀
It's one movement of four, one for each of the classical elements. Katerina Gimon composed each movement without words, only sounds, texture, and body percussion. But the pieces are meant to evoke Earth, Air, Fire, and Water.
we weren't saying anything! the main chant "n a ma ai na kai la na da" you can hear throughout the song was a vocal percussion and doesn't actually mean anything. the whole piece was just abstract sounds meant to represent the energy of fire.
I love it. Because there's no clear language, it almost feels ancient and timeless. It feels like these women and girls tapped into feelings that are thousands of years old
