Owain: Hey father! What was the first thing you said to mother at first glance? Lon'qu: ... um... well I said.."Away Woman!" ... Owain: Sword hand Twitching Lissa: *sigh* sadly it's true dear
Lissa: "Hey, Chrom! Lon'qu and I are getting married!" *sound of sword being unsheathed* Chrom: "Well, Lissa, that's... great." *twitch* "I have.... things to attend to." *walks suspiciously in the direction of Lon'qu and Lissa's new tent*
@@PatrickChoi in the saddest way possible. He pushed her during the battle, right on her chest. Obviously, he noticed two things that weren't supposed to be there.
I can just imagine it: He kicks Lucina on the floor, her armor falls off, and Lon’qu just looks at Lucina in literal shock while she gets back up ready to kick his ass while he’s dumbfounded.
I can see the reasoning behind Lon'qu having feelings for Lissa. If you know the backstory of Lon'qu and his "fear" of women, it is very reasonable: Back in the day, Lon'qu was friends with a girl named "Ke'ri", they both were best friends in their childhood-days. One day, bandits attempted to kill both, however: Lon'qu was able to escape while Ke'ri died for him, giving him nightmares to this day. He sees Lissa as Ke'ri. He must've had a horrible feeling of deja vu, however this time: He is a remarkable swordsman and able to protect Lissa. Because of that, he developed feelings for her. It did not cure him of the phobia completely, yet it's heartwarming to see such a thing between Lissa and Lon'qu happening. This is personally; My favorite pair and probably the one I'd consider as canon.
Jeez poor Lon'qu in his supports with Lissa and Owain (when Owain is his son) he's always getting shot. The guy tries to spend time with his family and what does he get? Shot that's what
I love how at the beginning of the support, he sees protecting her as nothing but a job - and an annoying one at that. But by the end of it he is genuinely concerned for her safety and wants to be the one to protect her as her HUSBAND, not a bodyguard. That's some major character development there.
Mezinchna Red actually I do think she wasn't hallucinating. Think of this: Sumia revealed her true nature, then knocked Miriel out. She then woke her up, and went back to her clumsy attitude. Miriel, now believing she was seeing things, accepts this as her true nature. MIND. BLOWN.
luisilly6 But Miriel was describing herself as feeling dizzy as they talked...indicating she was letting the heat get to her. I've been in very hot conditions, and being in them for too long while not eatting or talking to people can make you dizzy
This is definitely a Canon pairing for Lissa~ why? Her son Owain wears the same costume as Lon'Qu... Just the color is different~ But then again, I've been eyeing this couple from the day i first saw them XD
This support run gave me some weird signals from both sides. Part 1, Lissa comments about Lon'qu being picked by chrom to be her bodyguard because "charm and good". Among other things. Tell me in what world does chrom say such a thing as good looks=good guard. Sounds to me like someone's putting words in someone's mouth. Part 2, Lon qu makes an interest slip of the tongue about Lissa making people smile. Then the obvious stuff like Lissa flipping out when Lon gets hit, and the fact that he managed to prevent that from hitting Lissa was admirable. Kinda thought it was a wasted chance considering how Lon'qu gynophobia came from being unable to protect someone close to him. Would been nice for him to mention that and we see that "hey look, I can do it, I don't need to be scared anymore, thanks Lissa". Overall, the 2 acted unlike any other pairing. They give each other grief and are polar opposites in ability, personality, stature, etc and yet on the inside, they notice the others traits and started liking each other probably from the very beginning. Slowly closing the physical and personal distance.
I love how this support had them gradually starting to like each other throughout the whole thing, instead of the usual "acquaintance talks to acquaintance" "acquaintances become either somewhat friends or absolutely hate each other by the end" "Maybe friends/maybe enemies talk again and strengthen their bonds/make up sloppily" "S-Support that has almost nothing to do with anything else in the support" This support feels so natural and normal (besides the assassination plot), and it's such a nice change from the usual Fire Emblem supports. Today I dub LissaxLon'qu my ship
In Cherche+Gregor supports, we notice that Gregor has the exact same fear. By the end of THEIR S support, he states that flying might not be as bad with Cherche beside him, much in the same way Gerome recovered from his own vertigo with Cynthia.
Haha...wow, you really have thought this through. I appreciate it, personally--I can never get behind a pairing that doesn't make sense with the rest of the story. I know the game leaves them open ended for the most part so you can pretty much pair up who you want, which is great. But for some reason, whatever is regarded as "canon" has always been important to me. And if they make sense and are in character, I'll support them from then on ^^
I think so too. The game gives obvious hints. In support with his father Owain tells that the former protected him from an arrow. Lon'qu does he same for Lissa. In Future Past 2, if Lon'qu is Owain's father, the latter says he wanted to honor the former... So Owain has the same starting class as Lon'qu: Myrmidon. That Future Past 2 also serves as a smooth continuation of Lissa/Lon'qu supports, since Owain mentions how Lon'qu risked his life to safe Lissa.
Yay, I convinced you! Haha I feel accomplished now. Honestly, you're so good at this I was afraid you'd come up with some masterful counterpoint and tear my argument to shreds xD
Alright. Let's do this. Cynthia+Gerome is one of my absolute favorite pairings in the game. First off, as I mentioned earlier, there's the obvious crushing going on even before you reach S support. Cynthia says TWICE that she loves him, and though it's not made clear whether she meant that romantically or platonically, Gerome's reaction says more than enough about which one he was hoping she meant.
Severa then meets Laurent who, let’s face it, is Frederick of the second generation and, to her amazement, strikes a perfect balance with a person similar to her father personality-wise (bonus points that their relationship is somewhat similar to protagonists of Toradora). Severa and Laurent are also both travelers. And when they go on a journey together Severa, who, if being alone, is eager to shrug off any kind of intimacy, discovers something much, much greater that material treasures.
Also, another thing that I noticed in favor of Frederick being Severa's father is when she offers to spend time with Lucina, with the line "We can unload all of our pent-up complaints about our perfect parents!" Parents, plural, implying that Severa has more than one of those. And Frederick is pretty much the only one who perfectly fits into that description, further adding onto Severa's inferiority complex. Imagine having TWO seemingly perfect parents to live up to...
Just to close the chapter on this, here's the list of pairings more or less hinted by the game itself as the possible canon ones: Severa+Laurent (the game basically cements it if you connect the dots), Inigo+Lucina, Nah+Brady, Noire+Yarne, Kjelle+Gerome, Cynthia+Owain.
That only means she can possibly swing both ways and nothing else. And all thanks to Sully who wore pants in the family and overdid it with rising her as a tomboy.
(lol late reply sorry) You make a good point. Several, actually. Adding onto the Nowi + Donnel argument, I'd have to say I agree with you now officially even though I used to ship Nowi and Ricken. Honestly, their supports are adorable, but they stop making much sense after Nah's father starts acting much more adult-like and responsible than Ricken ever has. Donnel fits much more comfortably into that role (and his supports with Nowi are adorable too, so there you go).
As for Cherche, if one compares her suppots with Gregor and her other supports, the game itself basically ships them together. Cherche herself has solid connections with three characters: Virion, Lon'qu and Gregor. But Virion is tied to Tharja, Lon'qu - to Lissa, which leaves only Gregor. And the only disputable pairs due to not having hints and parallels provided by the game are Donnel + Nowi and Stahl + Sully. The rest have evidence, especially Vaike + Maribelle.
Another thing in support of this pairing being canon. This whole support is somewhat therapeutical for Lon'qu. In the past when he was young, he failed to protect a girl he loved from bandits. The situation almsot tried to repeat itself with Lissa, but this time he succeeded and even found new love.
The fact that Severa’s starting class is a mercenary makes sense if one remembers who her parents are - perfect loyal knights bound by their duty. So Severa, due to her personality and out of protest, decided to become someone totally opposite - a mercenary, who is free to choose for whom to work for and doesn’t have to be loyal or is free to choose her loyalty.
it shows that Frederick already had feelings for Cordelia for a relatively long time just like she had feelings for Chrom but was embarrassed to express them due to considering himself inexperienced in the matters of the heart, and Cordelia remained oblivious just like Chrom. In the end, unlike Cordelia, Frederick mustered his courage to confess his love and was rewarded. The history of unrequited love did not repeat itself.
Ugh, REALLY late reply, sorry. I like Noire and Yarne as well--they're both so similar in personality that it just makes sense (although the Noire and Owain S support is both hilarious and surprisingly sweet--almost enough to make me want to ship it instead). Nah and Brady I hadn't considered before...I can see it working, especially with Yarne now taken and Brady being the serious, responsible one that he is. Nah does like that.
There is also a parallel between Gaius and Yarne. The former is a thief that must remain hidden and stealthy in order to stay safe and not to get caught and even killed. The latter also tries to hide himself in order to not get caught and killed. And finally, after the war Gaius returns to his "less savory enterprises" and his wife is either not pleased or does not care. Except for Panne, who actually joins him. So she is not only his partner in life, but in the line of work as well.
And finally, they are both so on the same page, that “Their semidelusional journey was said to be one of much mayhem and mirth”. That leaves only Kjelle, who is looking for a strong man and finds one in her rival Gerome. And they are both on the same page with their seriousness about being strong warriors.
Cordelia, by that point being tired of her unrequited love (the fact proven by at least 3 other supports) and knowing full well what kind of man Frederick really is, decides she would be an idiot to pass up such sincere love and happily accepts the proposal, which she was not forced to accept (though, to be honest, I don’t know if this whole support is depicted the same way in the original). Another hint: Severa's father makes her to do chores.
Henry developed his upbeat personality in order to cope with the shit he had to go through. Cynthia, who at first was a shy girly-girl (I don’t remember which character mentioned it), developed her upbeat and energetic personality in order not to break down after her parents’ death. Owain’s personality has basically the same origin. They both used that justice cabal or whatever together. Cynthia also makes Owain that he should become a writer (one of his definitive traits in the bad future).
Lucina/Inigo, Laurent/Severa, Yarne/Noire and Nah/male Morgan. They are the most genuine. I can also provide arguments justifying Laurent/Severa as possibly being canon.
Well, you might actually have a point. If Owain ends up with Kjelle, their pair ending states that Owain setting off on a lengthy quest to "stay his sword hand" (which he does regardless of any ending) was Kjelle's idea. Then yes, Cynthia to Gerome.
Okay, you're going to have to do a REALLY good job convincing me of the legitimacy of any set of pairings NOT including Cynthia+Gerome. Seriously, have you seen their supports? It's just about the sweetest and most adorable thing I've ever read. And it's pretty obvious that they're both crushing on each other even before you get to S support. It's blindingly obvious. Gerome gets all flustered when Cynthia says she loves him in supports B and A, because he can't tell whether she means it or not.
Plus, as Cynthia says after you pair them up, "A girl doesn't hang onto your every word for old times' sake!" Yes, that's in the S support, but you gotta admit, it does make sense. Even Cynthia wouldn't remember every single word of praise and flattery he gave her as a CHILD, and try so hard to reproduce it years later, if she simply regarded him as a "childhood friend". She was dying to hear the guy she liked make her feel special like he did when they were kids.
Idk about Lucina and Inigo, though. I never really got a sense from Lucina that she particularly liked Inigo, and in fact seems pretty annoyed with him for the most part. And even after you marry them, Inigo still isn't willing to commit to her--there are only a few pairings you can make with Inigo where he isn't reluctant to not continue flirting with every living female on the planet, and Lucina isn't one of them. I find the ones where he IS willing to commit much more genuine.
Ok then. Before speaking about Severa and Laurent it is necessary to point out that the game heavily hints Frederick to be Severa’s father. Cordelia and Frederick’s support is special. Apart from them having a common ground of being diligent and hardworking to the point of perfectionism and Frederick to be the first man to understand how hard it is for Cordelia to be considered just a genius by everyone else (and she really appreciates that),
Chrom + Sumia Virion + Tharja Ricken + Miriel Gregor + Cherche Frederick + Cordelia Lon'qu + Lissa Donnel + Nowi Libra + Olivia Stahl + Sully Vaike + Maribelle Gaius + Panne These are the pairings closests to being canon to my opinion after I checked and compared pairing supports, parent supports and Future Past scripts. Virion + Tharja and Lon'qu + Lissa are the most obvious.
It's pretty much regarded that it's "canon" or maybe "fanon" to pair female MU to Chrom (depending on whether Sumia was married off or not) and a male MU to Lucina.
People are familiar with one of the Opening Videos for Dark Souls 2, correct? With the Elite Knight snapping an arrow off his shoulder as masked assailants descend on his location? Id like to think that it's secretly Ronkuu (Yeah, you heard me right. They changed his fucking name to an engrish like pronunciation/spelling... Probably because of the Ronku. Fuck the Ronku.)
And if we assume, that female 2-gen characters look for traits in their partners similar to their fathers, that explains Nah to Brady (serious, responsible, kind), Noire to Yarne (somewhat submissive, prefers retreating, badass when gets serious), Lucina to Inigo (embarrassed Chrom trying to convey his feelings to FA; shy Inigo doing his very best trying to make the girl he likes to smile).
Eh, I don't know. I feel like Cherche is the best match for Virion, if only because she's the only one who knows how to deal with him properly and gets along with him best. I haven't seen all of Gregor's supports yet so I'm not sure who best to pair him with. Lon'qu is indeed tied to Lissa; I'm glad we agree on that~ I like Ricken with Nowi, but Donnel works too. Vaike + Maribelle are alright, but I'm starting to lean more towards Gaius + Maribelle, to be honest...
Finally, there is a direct parallel between the Cynthia+Gerome pairing and Cherche+Gregor, assuming that Gregor is Gerome's father. In their S support, they talk about how Cynthia took Gerome on her pegasus to help him get over his fear of heights. This is mainly where Gerome's initial feelings for Cynthia stemmed from.
I don't agree with you on Henry though, at least not yet. I'll concede the Tharja + Virion debate because it makes a surprising amount of sense (even though I'm still having trouble picturing Virion with anyone but Cherche), but mostly because I found a new favorite match for Henry--Olivia. I decided this after seeing their supports (in Japanese, anyway; they're the only supports I've seen that changed so drastically in translation, and not for the better). Is there any way for that to work?
Until and if the next game presents us the generation that comes after the 2-nd generation of this game, we are left mostly to wild mass-guessing, because, unlike with the 1-st generation, the game provdes no hints and information that bring a 2-nd generation pair together. And even if a support shows that one of the 2-gen characters had affections from the beginning, there are more than one such conversation like, for example, with Inigo, or they are conflicting like Nah/Brady and Brady/Kjelle.
Inigo's flirting may be played for laughs, but I feel like the supports where he's actually willing to commit to the girl he claims to love just works better with the story and characters. Although...their ending really is the best Lucina ending. And one of the best Inigo endings. ...Huh. ......I still like Lucina and Owain better.
As for Kjelle, it is my firm belief that she is actually a (closeted?) lesbian. The game may never come right out and say it, but...I don't know. I've always gotten some very strong lesbian vibes from her. Maybe it has to do with the fact that she is so derisive towards just about every guy she has supports with. There's also her minor obsession with Lucina, and--do I even have to say it?--her harvest scramble conversation with Severa. I mean...come on. That pretty much cements it for me.
Libra and Olivia match more. Both have gentle personalities, both brought together by dances. Inigo remarks about his father: "For being such a softy with everyone else he sure doesn't pull any punches with me..." Being soft with everyone else describes Libra perfectly. Since Libra is a priest - an advocate of proper behaviour, that might explain the discontent of Inigo's fahter about womanizing, Inigo also says to Libra: "I really want to follow in yours and Mother's footsteps and BE A DANCER"
Which is understandable considering how Chrom is depicted being completely smitten with female MU rom the get-go and Tiki basically calling male MU and Lucina birds of a feather and describing them as leaders capable of inspiring trust and love among their comrades, not to mention the love drama considering who male and female MU really are.
And which male character of this game is associated with chores the most and is even suspected of being a trained steward? None other than Frederick (the shopping trip also fits into the picture, considering that Frederick calls his child “daddy’s pride and joy”). And lastly, in the Future Past 3 mercenary (not a knight, this is important) Severa protects the royalty Lucina just like Frederick used to protect Chrom.
So if we make a hypothesis that 2nd gen females look for partners with personality characteristics similar to their fathers and also take pair ending into account… Nah+Brady: Brady is serious, responsible and kind (like Nah’s father). Their ending is special, because Nah, unlike, other female characters, who just listen (except Kjelle, who took up music too, but that was for her own self-improvement), accompanies his violin play with singing.
Oh, and Cynthia and Gerome played justice cabal together as kids too. The first part of your argument about Cynthia+Owain kinda falls apart if you recognize that Henry can't possibly be Cynthia's father, as Sumia+Chrom (much as I hate to admit it) is the most shove-in-your-face canon pairing in the game, regardless of the MU's gender.
As you know, Lon'qu+Lissa are my first OTP, with Cynthia+Gerome being my second--you'll notice that the characters in both pairings have an awful lot in common. The cool, distant guy and the warm, energetic girl that gets the guy to open up. I like this couple style because I feel it makes a lot of sense and feels the most genuine, and in that sense Cynthia+Gerome succeeds the same way Lon'qu+Lissa does.
Hm. I suppose that's fair. I never could understand why Noire was an archer by default; I just switched her to mage as soon as I could. It makes more sense if Virion's her father. I feel like her violently shifting personality works better with two dark mages as parents, though (which is actually addressed at the end of the game if you paired Tharja and Henry together). Who would you put Henry with if Tharja is taken?
Noire+Yarne I'm fine with also, as well as Nah+Brady if I can't have Nah+Yarne :P Although I suppose one could switch it up to Nah+Yarne and Noire+Brady...eh, I'm on the fence with those. I think both Nah AND Noire make the most sense with Yarne, but I can't very well have both, so meh.
Lucina+Inigo: Inigo’s behavior is somewhat similar to Chrom’s in regards to Female Avatar. Inigo is shy, tries his best to make the girl he likes to smile and convey to her how much he cares (despite being viewed as a womanizer and not to mention that Lucina being overly serious is one of her defining character traits, and if I am not mistaken Inigo is the only character bent on fixing that).
Move over ChromxSumia this is my OTP. I mean just look at the similarities between Owain and Lonqu (personality aside of course, no telling where he got THAT from).
Noire+Yarne: just like Virion, Yarne is somewhat submissive, has cases of retreating and is badass when gets serious. Noire, unlike other female characters (except for Nah, who is tied to Brady), tries her best to steer them out of trouble in their pair ending.
