Fire Maple Polaris - Watch This Before Buying Any Other Stove

I watched this and many other reviews, and ended up getting one. Thank you for the detailed information. A couple things to add re: the pot support: turn it upside down and put it on the stove and you can use a very small pot, such as a moka pot; turn it upside down and put it in the pot with an inch or so of water, and you can steam bake in your GSI Glacier cup that you bring with you nested on your Nalgene bottle. Re fuel use, I've found 1 - 12 oz boil is about 5 grams (for coffee). Cooking/simmering 1/4 cup lentils I'm using 11 grams. This equates to (conservatively) 7-8 days out of a 220 gram canister. Another tip: if you put the stove in the pot with the igniter 90° to the handle rivets, the stove easily slides in and out, it the igniter points to the rivets, the outer ring of the stove will get hung up on the rivets (the stove id slightly out of round). Finally, a folded swedish dishcloth fits between a 220g canister and the pot, which keeps things from rattling around. Enjoy!

Hi Mark, much appreciation with all your outdoor / gear videos. Recently I've purchased the Polaris cooking system and a X2 pot stand. I modified the pot stand by grinding down a notch inside the stand so the ignition rod of the Polaris stove can fit. I believe that it works quite well.

So funny this vid came up this morning. Just yesterday I looked for a system similar to this. I wanted something that would make coffee for me and a few friends on my trip to the Catskills next month. I ended up ordering the ATEPA brand 1.8 L from Walmart at 1/2 the price of the Firemaple. Wish I had seen this vid yesterday - lol. I would love to own the MSR, but wow the price!!! It's on my wish list. Good to know about the gas regulater on the Firemaple. Thank you for the demo!!!

Looking at all these systems,I was drawn to the Bulinbl_100, which has 3800 w power,a pot of 1.5 ltr and windproof platform.Recieved after they started with a metal mesh top,and mine is "more normal". Purchased approx 4 months ago here in states,for 64$us,30$ for stove,34$ for pot,that has collapsible handle.Am very pleased with both quality and price!I enjoy your shows,your patience is appreciated

So after watching the reviews and looking at the options like jet boil and for the price… it just made sense to give this one a go. Evevn though indo more overlanding this is still a good option for when I go beyond base camp for a tight or two

I do not own a Jet Boil stove but have used one at a Scout Camp, They do Boil water fast, but they do not simmer that well which I understand the one you tested does. I have recently acquired a no name gas burner for my Trangia cook set and will be testing that out.

G'day Mark, a lot to like there mate; price, even better. I do have their unregulated remote unit and I'm really happy with it for my elevation/climate. Only real question for me is whether to try out an all in one system. If I do decide to go down that track, this will be the one. Thanks for showing it. Cheers Duke.

I have the Sterno setup not pressurized. Uses stereo can but I use solid tablets or a alcohol stove for the source. It's got the radiator system works for me only 35 US when I got almost 10years ago. Like that additional pan option yours has. God Bless Mark.

Good review (and useful comments from viewers!). Thanks, Mark! Oh, I did look up the country of manufacture for the Jetboil, and they are manufactured in the USA. Also, the MSR Windburner uses a titanium pot, which is non-reactive and can't be scraped off with metal utensils and accidentally ingested like nonstick coatings and, to a lesser extent, hard anodized treatments can (and who knows what chemicals or heavy metals are used in the anodizing process?).

Hello sir, nice review and comparison, i was planning on buying the older version of the firemaple back in 2018, and if the polaris was in existence back then, then i would have not hesitated on purchasing the system. Pressure regulator is now the trend if you want to have an even flame no matter what the condition of the canister. I believe they have the MARS RADIANT stove already i hope you can review that as well. BTW, the MSR windburner is pressure regulated and boils 250cc of water in 1.5mins even in the storm- making it the top of this category of stoves but very pricey. You can already buy 3 FM Polaris with the price of 1 MSR WB!

I have the Windburner which has also pressure regulation and never fails ind cold condition with his radiant burner. There are also bigger Pots for this System. It is not as fast as the "Jetboil" System, but gas consumption is also less. But i would also buy a Fire Maple X5 System instead of a Jetboil one, the Craftmanship of Fire Maple Products is great! (I own another few Pans form this Brand, some they have also Heat Exchanger.)

If this system had been available years ago when I bought my Jetboil Flash, I would definitely have considered it. As it is, I can't justify getting it because I have the Jetboil -- which is not regulated, and less wind resistant (though I do also have the pot/frypan adapter). I've had it for most of a decade, so I've definitely got my money's worth out of it, but it works so I can't justify replacing it. [Also, this might be a bit OCD, but you didn't point out that you can pull down on the lower bead of the lid latch to get it out of the way while you're cooking...]

I see a lip around the burner head. I suspect that when used with the adapter ring it makes things a bit more efficient and with the included pot substantially more wind resistant similar to the MSR Pocket Rocket Deluxe with its concave burner and raised lip.

Too bulky and heavy for me but I do like it, something to consider if my needs change. I especially like that you can fit an 8oz canister

Thanks for the information and demo. Something about these burners. If the self lighting capability fails, can it be lit manually with a match? Also, a few of them have very poor heat control. I really appreciate you telling us about the control and that you can simmer. This looks great actually. The larger size is an advantage to me. Thanks again!

Sadly, Fire Maple lost me at anodized aluminum. They will have my business when they offer titanium since I am paranoid about aluminum. Thank you!

Looks like a really good cook system at a fair price but my concern with this type of design is the stability and safety of a tall pot mounted on the canister like this, hence my cook systems are mainly remote/alpine style stove setups the exceptions are my SOTO windmaster and Amicus which I use for my lightest and most compact kit.

You might be able to drill some small holes in the lid. Great video.

Hi Mark - I am interested in the Fire Maple Saturn stove. We do mostly car camping so weight is not an issue. It is fast - 1 L in just a little over 2 min. apparently, but am especially interested in fuel efficiency.

would be interested in a versus review against the Bulin S2400 1 5L pot and BL100 B15 Gas Stove. Key things for me for the Bulin so far are height stability differences especially in a tent with small vestibule. seen your review of both stoves but would welcome your thoughts for a) backpack boil in bag one pot cooking B) breakfast options

I hope you also review.the other two polaris model that they have...both are pressure regulated.

How does this stove fix a cold canister? Pressure inside the canister will be super low in cold weather and thats why you use gas canisters inverted in the winter right?

The reactivity of Aluminum used for cookware issue has not been resolved. Until this stove is built with Titanium or SS, I will not be buying or using this stove.
