This is a board game that's anything but boring!
Fireball Island was released by Milton Bradley in 1986. Instead of a flat board, players traverse a three-dimensional island in search of the idol Vul-Kar's jewel. But escaping with the treasure won't be easy.
Players utilize cards, bridges, caves, and tokens as they attempt to obtain the treasure. Once they have it, they become the target of the other players. And let's not forget the 5 - count 'em - 5 fireballs that can come careening down the mountain at any moment to engulf the players and put them in a smolder pit. Then face the most harrowing challenge of them all - making your game piece fit on the boat!

Anyone who happens to be watching this in April 2018, there's currently a kickstarter going on for a remastered version of Fireball Island. Anyone still interested in getting the game fresh in the box, now's your best chance.

I played it today, it wasnt bad. Tired some new stuff and a few updates, very nostalgic 80s feel to it, a taaad more complicated than the original ( which I own, the new one is a friends)

The box art is garbage. Cartoony-looking characters in the foreground with the Vul Kar head barely noticeable in a corner of the background. Nothing like the original box art, that instantly grabs your attention with its visceral awesomeness.

I know this comment is two years old, but actually Restoration Games will update and publish a new version of Fireball Island. You should check it out. It will be a Kickstarter on April 3rd.

I loved this game as a kid. Nothing else compares. I did a Google search and was surprised to see that James reviewed it since I am used to his reviews of crappy NES games. I was worried this whole video would just point out that I was a dumb kid and just didn't know any better. I hope my parents did not throw this away.

Dude, I had this game as a kid. I actually wish I knew what happened to it. Last time I remember seeing it was when I was probably like 9 or 10. I've not ever seen one since, or even heard of anyone that had it for that matter, until now.

I was so stoked when I saw AVGN did this! I bought this at a Goodwill when I was about 8 years old and I remember playing with it, alone, for hours on end. I don't even know if I ever got a friend to actually play it with me... I identify pretty strongly with BoardJames. #NerdMemories

I remember using the mini micro machines instead of the people tokens when playing this game as a kid. It was so much more entertaining to think about giant boulders rolling over cars than explorers getting knocked over by waist tall boulders.

No way, just less mainstream due to video games. Try out "Settlers of Catan" or "Ticket to Ride", two of my favourites this year. There are new board games every year, just way less commercials for them now.

I had this game when I was little and it was one of my favourite. It's pretty much only a roll and move game but the cards, shortcuts and fire balls made it so great.

I just discovered this wonderful game in my attic. Everything was missing but the 3D board. I downloaded the pdf manual, re-made and printed the 48 cards with Magic Set Editor, rebuilt the two bridges with some wood stick and glue, rebuilt the jewel with red wax, rebuilt the token with printed paper, rebuilt the Vul-Kar Idol with Papier Mâché, the 5 fireballs replaced with red marbles, and pawns replaced with others from some old destroyed game. I can't wait to play it again with my friends!

This game is amazing, our family used to get together during Christmas and we'd have a tournament with everyone bringing their copies. Still have it, although probably missing a bunch of pieces, using some red marble instead of the ball from the game.
