The most dangerous of military missions is the amphibious assault. Join the modern Marine forces and see the surprising capabilities of their new equipment. Watch the advanced vehicles that carry them to shore, the most hi-tech development being hovercraft, which are equally effective over land and water!
This is a documentary which shows amphibious assault forces which storm the beaches with the United States Marines in landing craft.

the worse thing the enemy does is when you assault their beaches they tend to try to keep you out by enclosing themselves but they are actually trapping themselves in

@Ag3nt0fCha0s yes the original Hawker-Siddeley Harrier is pure British. AV-8B and BAE Harrier II are a improved design it's up a generation and that was mainly led by American company McDonnell Douglas (part of Boeing today) because BAE had dropped out and rejoined later on due to funding issues. So yes,Harrier is invented by British. But the Harrier II we use today are not the same ones. And I see no point in arguing over who made what, in the end we came together and made a good jet.

Are helicopters and Ospreys 100% equiped with mine detectors to land behind or aside enemy lines? A deployment with no risks!

@LichGeneral I don't know about that. I personally would rather parachute in than have to storm a defended beach. Think of Normandy landings vs the airborne the days earlier. I would bet amphibious has the higher casualty rate.

no actually the allied airborne forces suffered more. All the paratroopers were scattered and many of the transport aircraft and the paratroopers within were shot down before they could even reach their drop zones. In addition, airborne forces are only in essence light infantry and were lacking in firepower as they are unable to utilize any heavy equipment or vehicles. This presents a problem as airborne forces are almost always surrounded and this requires them to be relieved very quickly.

Harrier invented by the British. Nice to hear that considering some troll told me it was a purely american invention.

@USAmilitarypower Well it should be good we bloody invented them. I think with our training and America's tactical uses thats what I call an army.

@OlderG0ds Nope... With modern AA defences, storming the beach would be safer.

Also, they are unable to sustain themselves for very long with their limited supplies. As i said before they need to be relieved quickly by conventional forces, forces in which sometimes never comes as proven by operating market garden. anyway, you yanks have it easy, the brit paras copped it much more than you in ww2

@Ag3nt0fCha0s Ya I agree it's annoying to see that stuff. More so I think is that people refuse to take the aircraft for what it is, no they must look at the country it came from instead and judge it by that. Especially if its from there own country it automatically has to be best... I don't care if Zimbabwe made the Harrier it's very innovative and has its uses. Remove or change flags off the planes and people would have very different "opinion" about it.

@OlderG0ds Well I'm glad to hear you don't. It's distressing to hear another nation claim to have invented your ideas. It's indecent for a start. We Brits don't claim the genius of the invention of AK47 and the French don't claim to have invented the tank. Imagine how you'd feel if you were told by some German that they were the first ones to invent atomic weaponry. It's nice to see some reasonable people who deal in truth on the net.
