From our archive: In this video, teens who have been sentenced to juvenile prison arrive in a prison van in waist and leg shackles, preparing for a harrowing first day inside. As they go through the prison intake process, there's a lot to learn before they spend the months and years ahead inside a maximum-security juvenile facility. Going through the Intake process gives them a chance to ask prison guards questions about what to expect as they face a life of the unknown.
Meanwhile, elsewhere in the prison our cameras captured teenager Andrew going in front of the Release Committee to learn if he had earned his release from prison. An update on Andrew is included at the end of the video.

This video was originally filmed in 2007, not 2010 as stated in the opening scene. We apologize for the error.

The best thing to do to not end up in lock up is to not do anything to get locked up.

I will say Indiana has some of the better corrections officers compared to what I’ve seen other places. I know Sarge was blowing smoke for the camera a little bit, but he seemed like a pretty decent guy when he was asking those kids if they were nervous.

This last kid at the review hearing is awkward and slow like he can’t communicate making himself look worse saying the only people he impacted was his mother and sister and not saying the victim they didn’t like to hear that

Looking at Andrew he needs to be evaluated it shows something is wrong with him he's a good talker like a lot of people when it's gonna get him out but by getting out and breaking the law that's what makes it harder for people to be released that's why it's so many people being denied probation and parole and still sitting behind bars.

Sad this is bever ending for these kids alot will cone and go and alot will end back in the system and adult prison the facilities will always have their doors open to these kids with this kind of criminal behavior
@rayjohnson7886
@rayjohnson7886 5 месяцев назад
Well it's gonna have to start with the person themselves it's a reason why they are locked up. I do know not everyone locked up is guilty and for the one's that committed crimes has to for one accept their actions. And wanting to change if not that's why places like this and adults prisons are made these places isn't like a magnet it doesn't draw.

The sad truth is a majority of these "boys" will end up back in there,jail, or prison and im sure they know that. Some can talk and express themselves ok and some cant but they each know if theyre lying about their answers or if theyre truly trying to change. Alot of these kids upbringing and environments is why they bacame what they are now and the familiarity of that is hard to get away from. I sincerely hope they each can change and become productive young men but its hard and they need to work to change. Part of the problem is this process right here because it doesn't seem like the programs are helping much and the process is certainly lacking and needs significant improvements!!!

first: andrew committed robbery in most every other state, not burglary. but that IN's quirky law. but that's that. arson of abandoned structure, OK. fine. sentenced. threats, prob not warranted as a PO violation but, okay. 5 years of another burglary and sex misconduct and out within five years...that's light in terms of sentencing for a habitual offender. now we're working on 7 years w/o an offense...positivity. hopefully he's safely driving a semi somewhere (or being a mechanic) and been in rehab enough to where he doesn't have four walls and a cot ever again.

You couldn't be more wrong with that comment I'm afraid, I'm here in England and when I was locked up at that age the screws would have had far less injuries if they didn't take the shackles off me as soon as I arrived in the short sharp shock that was Buckley Hall 😂😅😊
